"from the bird house in the back yard he landed in" more like... " in the back yard he CRASHED into..." very very fortunate to be able to utter anything,,,,after THAT fiasco... Hopefully his Attitude about the 'NON obtrusive' "just switch it on and forget about it " video camera, has been changed... jt

amen.....iowa another aspect of 'jumping with a video camera' is that it labels a jumper as "one who has achieved a certain level of ability" it marks a jumper as 'other than an intermediate level skydiver'...(which somebody with 200 jumps IS!!!!!)( somebody with UNder 100 jumps is still only a NOVICE!!!! ) to a certain extent it can be interpreted as the equivilent of ' an instructor rating'... In years and decades past, camera flying wanna-bees ( such as myself Twenty years ago!!

well, technically that stuff MIGHT be Beef..... But not at all sure,,, what parts...... The 'horsey sauce' is the only thing from Arbys that i ever liked.. I usually resist the temptation to stop at ANY such place,,,, I can buy a head of iceberg lettuce, a bag of carrots, and 2 cucumbers,,, for about what it costs, for a sandwich, soda and fries.. i bring those items home, and make a nice healthful salad....( with oil and Vinegar) The last time i was in a Burger King. I ordered a "Whopper Minus MEAT with extra lettuce and tomatos ".... the girl looked at me like i was NUTZ!!!!! hahaha... but the bread isn't bad, and a bit of mayo and the veggies, make for a decent sandwich..... jimmy

Question for anyone with a license
jimmytavino replied to lindseyxo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
like patworks, captain1976 AND JohnMitchell,,, i also forged the waiver,,, signing my fathers name,,,, Just the way i'd seen HIM sign it, on many a "less than stellar" Report Card!!! only thing is,, I DID have his verbal OK to sign up for my first Static Line. We were 350 miles apart, and I NEEDED the signature,,, immediately.. i was into freefall within 2 weeks of my first of five, static lines. once i was into the sport a bit, a couple of hundred jumps, and understood a few things,,, i happened to be in the DZOs office,, with him, and noticed a stack of waivers sitting on a counter... I found mine, and thought it might be best, to take it, and hold on to it MYSELF,,," for safe keeping".... ( this was waaay before xerox copy machines were widely in use... ) it's in a photo album,,, still in My possession....though THAT DZ is long since, closed... as for the sex aspect of things... for quite a long time,,, In My Youth, i " had jumped out of a plane," a LOT more times than i "had been laid...".... IN fact !!!!!! that might Still be the case!!!!!! -
intuition... or else, anticipatory intelligence. hahahaha.. But i doubt either of those answers,,, was what you were looking for... jmy

we bought a 6 acre lot the week after we were married. 1981... raw land 318 feet of road frontage, 835 feet deep... NOT out in the wilderness,,,, but in a decent part of our county... Planted 2000 pine tree seedlings on it in 1988 and 1989... A LOT of work involved... you just don't drop a seed on the ground, Like Johnny Appleseed..... Attrition, drought, deer and rabbits, sometimes mowing.. took lots of them, but we currently have almost 400 nicely maturing Pine trees... some pushing 20 and 25 feet tall.... NOT for Christmas trees, NOT for paper, Not for harvesting of any kind,,, BUT for enhancing the appearance and value of the lot... Got it approved as a building site,, a few years ago.. though we are happy where we are,, and WE aren't likely to build on it... The lots is approx 18 miles west of where we live... Would consider selling it to someone who needs a nice place to build, say a post & beam home, or other outdoorsy type place... The Norway spruces, white pines, austrian pines, and a few other species.. will make a great homestead someday.. LOTS of work keeping the trees alive and healthy,, for the first 4 or 5 years.. ( we drilled a well, soas to have H2O on site, to give them a drink, every few weeks..) Lots of work...even tougher IF you don't live nearby.... good luck... jmy

"USPA settled in May '09. Unofficially , I heard that the plaintiffs got 40 K from USPA.." .. so then,,,,is it safe to say, that by caving,,, ( settling ) then stepping aside from further litigation,,, USPA has provided said plaintiffs,, with a bunch of funds to use to go after the OTHER defendants....??? I don't know of too many lawyers who'll work for nothing,,,,,and so NOW are the complainants able to further the lawsuit,,, Against USPA members, by using funds, provided TO USPA,,,,,, indirectly by it's members....??? IF it's a liability insurance issue,, and the insurance company is making the payout.... Are NOT the premiums for that insurance PAID FOR by the membership of uspa? So then isn't USPA simply making it possible ( or at least EASIER ) for the suit to continue??? just wonderin'????? jt

lonnnggg time ago... when we were kids... Christmas eve would begin after dinner. Then we'd walk next door to Grandma and Grandpas, often under a crisp cold, star lit night, for treats, for time with ALLLLLLL the cousins, Aunts and uncles,,,,and for smiles and hugs, as well as a token gift or two for each person there,,,,I was blessed with lots of wonderful cousins and a nice Italian Family,, all of whom got along with each other!!!!! ( go figure!!) Then Christmas morning, we spring up at 5 AM or so, and we 5 children would have to sit at the top of the stairs,,, until our Parents, who had their bedroom on the first floor,, would call us into the L room,. where Lo and Behold!!!!!! Santa would have visited.... A few toys each,,, a few toys "common to us all"... and during those simple times, we were easy to please... Ah...... so long ago.. Today... things are a little different.... My Mom prepares a "7 Fishes Dinner" for Christmas Eve... Which ever siblings and their kids can attend,,, will.... We make it usually once every 3 or 4 years.... This is an ON year,,, and so we made the 6 hour drive earlier today..... and i post this response, from the computer in my Dads office..... while there are 20 other family members in the kitchen Family room dining room and living room.... munching appetizers, and sipping wine... ( i mentioned to my Mom that i really do not recall 7 fishes dinner,,, when we were young,, and In her wisdom, She replied,," it was only 2 fishes, then,, we were too poor!!!"...) ( She's the BEST!!) so, tomorrow i'll be preparing a breakfast for everyone, with lots of goodies,, and (hopefully ) there will be a couple of gifts, for our children to enjoy Unwrapping....here at THEIR grandparents home... Me???? i have NO need for ANYthing... and am happy with peace and harmony, a few snowflakes, and decent health...

small businesses can fall into one of a couple of categories... some are essential... such as service companies, food suppliers, home and building maintenance providers and some health care companies. and some are NON essential..... Hoidy Toidy restaurants, Ice cream stores,,, specialty clothiers,, ( high end) , spas and "relaxation" centers. Hairdressers and the like... and very narrowly focused Shops and Boutiques... ( Think Fred Willard, and "the Scotch Boutique" from SNL...)( which sold scotch tape )... When times get tough...specialty places WILL suffer.... non essentials will NOT be able to stay above water... Not sure about CA. ,, but i would venture a guess that there are many "small businesses" which could easily disappear,, and never be missed.. Of course,, If High End ENOUGH!! the wealthy and the high rollers may still tend to frequent some of them... A large part of the problem could be,, that many people think it's "A Piece of Cake" to "start ones own business"... ANYbody can do it!!!!! IF someone does so,, AND begins by "taking out a loan"...They could inadvertantly be perching themselves on a precipice .... before even getting Started..... They can't get into the black,,, unless the banks FIRST,,, get their taste...and if the numbers don't work. the business owner is often LAST in line... One or two missteps,,, or a turn in the local economy,,, or as has been the case.. a huge backstep, in home values, and it's suddenly crunch time... Too bad.... Better to start with a sensible plan... EARN money ,, but don't TAKE the money ( the owner should be the LAST person who takes $$$ when a company is trying to get started...) Resist hiring others, unless it's absolutley justified by the cash flow.... and plan for it to take some time.. before it is In the Black. Owners who fancy themselves as some sorta big shot, going out and buying say, a company car, ( on credit) or pulling equity out of their home,,, on some fly by night idea.... can easily be faced with Higher mortgage payments,, AND a company that can't be self sufficent... a bad mix.. flexibility, the willingness to adjust business plans as needed,,, and SELF financing. may help one to avert such a sad ending. imho jimmy

cutaway / to reserve rides survey
jimmytavino replied to jimmytavino's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sadly,,,If they fell into THAT category , not likely ... mostly i was looking for the ratio of "direct to reserve" emergencies, as compared to main malfuctions which called for the chop,,, AS the first step,,, of the EPs not every scenario which results in a reserve ride includes a cutaway.. would rather not think about low or illtimed cutaways,,,which left inadequate time, for reserve inflation... jmy -
