she's a beautiful Woman but IS entitled to some degree of privacy.... Still..... after what just happened with her brother-In-Law you would think that OUTDOOR topless sunbathing would have been considered by SOMEONE within her "entourage" , to be a BAD idea.... especially when "on holiday" at a place Other than her own castle(s)..... The locals were probably selling prime voyeur positions to the highest bidder....

You never jumped a tandem as a student, will you do it for free now?
jimmytavino replied to Maksimsf's topic in The Bonfire
i came Up through static line training and had many MANy jumps when tandem was invented... ( in fact had MANY jumps when AFF was invented...) never liked the idea of deferring some of the control of my skydive, to anyone else... once i went out the door of a plane.. however a few years ago.. i was "on the injured reserve list" and not able to jump for a while.. ( i had dislocated a shoulder on a CASA exit, and was still recovering ) I was at the DZ and sorta bummed out that for the first time EVER... i couldn't just " get on a load.." A good friend who saw my sadness came up to me and said "hey why don't i take you on a tandem"??!!! I only had to think about it... for about FIVE seconds.... "sure " I said... it went great... i was surprised that while in freefall. i had NO sensation at ALL of the TM being connected to me.... we had a great skydive another buddy chased us. and we did RW.. i DID feel the trap door effect... which was interesting. but More interesting was the feeling i had when he Undid the lower laterals!!! Whoa!!! i dropped maybe a few inches... BUt felt like i was dropping a few FEET/... That was disconcerting..... The f un part was as we were under canopy and pulling toggles.. We argued (discussed) when to turn downwind.. when to turn onto base. when to turn onto final !!!! hahaha but together we put it down IN the pea gravel, standing UP... It was a very kind thing for Joey to do, and i'm forever grateful.... BUT it will be my one and ONLY tandem.. It's IN my logbook. and was my jump # 3,010........July 31, 2005 I still treasure my tandem Certificate!! A unique experience for ANY jumper who has Never Done a tandem..... it wasn't free however, as i did pay my slot.... and a case of beer... jmy -

hmmmm.. i'd say that if you re-connect somehow with someone, and YOU feel that THEY were the one 'who got away ' then you may proceed CAUTIOUSLY to express that thought and then SEE what happens... IF however you are TOLD that YOU are "the one".....then depending on how YOU felt,,, waaay back then... decide if they are right.. or if they are pushing you.....in which case.. consider Running...... in the opposite direction.... imho jmy

could some of the damage be from white tail Bucks scraping the trees with their antlers?? any signs of hoof prints around the base ???? just wonderin'
-
'comeback'....??? pffttttt... i'd be thinking about a " go away"..... he asked you answered he disregarded your honest reply done deal. get away....imho j

thanks for the small dose of nostalgia... i made maybe a dozen jumps, in the 70s on a Delta II, a couple of guys in the area, jumped them regularly and allowed certain of us to try them. ( Once outdrove a cloud and 2 strato stars, on a cross country dive, to be the ONLY one who landed ON the DZ because of the Para Wing ).. i also made over 900 jumps on 3 different French Papillons, which many considered the Rolls Royce of round sport mains.....My last one started blowing those taffeta panels, almost every 10 jumps or so.... Finally had to retire it... BUT i cut off and SAVED one of the center stabilizer panels,,, the one with the image of the Papillon!!!!!!!! thanks for the trip down memory lane.. jmy

How hard was RW back in the day?
jimmytavino replied to DigitalDave's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
the hardest thing about early RW , that i remember.... was the way that some people docked!!!!! thus the term... Kamikaze RW. not only did we "protect our handles" but we also protected our faces, our heads, and our bodies, from over eager jumpers who were out there looking "to build a Star". The PAt Works book(s) the Art of Freefall Relative Work, and then, United We Fall became the bible for the emerging artistry of "freefalling with friends".. Thanks Pat !! Your books still hold a place of Honor on a bookshelf in my home!! (right next to R. A. Gunbys' Sport Parachuting) -
once again, rss_v you show your inabiity to grasp some of the basics about the sport.. Boogies ARE about jumping,,,, and about meeting up with old friends, and making new ones. About enjoying some skydives at a new and different DZ, about jumping multiple large and fun airplanes and about photos and videos of people having FUN... sure there are often NO Rules about the "apres' jump" activiites... and THAT too is part of the appeal..but Not ALL that there is,, at a boogie. However One does NOT have to BE a participant, unless one WANTS to.....and often staying on the sidelines,,, shaking ones head in amusement, while taking in a few "creative behaviors by Grown up children" can make for some remarkable and funny memories... Whether you will be "shunned or disliked " or not, would be up to YOu...and up to how you interacted with others.... Your idiocy about proper etiquette while in one of the least maneuverable aircraft in the world.... and your follow up posts here, tell me that you Might have somewhat of an Uphill battle......wherever you may visit.. boogie or not.... ps when the Organizer invites you NOT to ATTEND, it certainly appears that you won't have to concern yourself, anyway... about what the "drinkers and naturalists" are doing. i think that you DO have a certain mischiefness about yourself and your posts... but when it comes to REAL and Actual skydiving safety and procedure issues... NOT everything is a Joke.. good luck pal.

packing parachutes is HArd work...but hard work can be a GOOD thing.... and when it creates the possibility for such a super AND generous donation, it becomes a Great thing...!!! What a nice Reflection on the entire Mitchell Family...Kudos to EACH of you...

among OTHER things.... rss_v.?? is this question supposed to be our LAUGH ?? for the day???? or are you just Bored? "Unauthorized ANYTHING"... always works better when all the primary players, are... IN ON IT!!! I M H O you would be acting very selfishly, to pull such a stunt... j

thanks for the replies folks... I wasn't totally sure MYSELF... whether turning OFF the key... would have done anything... I have heard of situations where cruise control does something crazy... and all bets are OFF>>> more.... i meant to ask ,,, WHY didn't the 911 operator suggest trying that approach...??? Or the cops who were chasing, and in radio contact WITH 911... Even the News reporters from different networks , who aired the clip on both sunday AND monday, never made that simple suggestion.... i dunno.... Could BE that new cars CAN'T shut down like that..... I have only run into a situation where i couldn't "shut down" the engine,,,, when i had bad Post Ignition Knock..... Mostly with MY vehicles.... the trick is to get the DAMN thing STarted !!!!!
-
so i have now seen this video a few times on the national news..... the lady is screaming at the 911 operator who is telling her... "stay calm" "we're getting some help, to you".... and then mile after mile of 100+MPH , hairy scarey driving.... Any reason she didn't simply shut OFF the ignition??????? am i missing something here??? trouble AND panic..... what a lousy combination...... the news this morning said it was a Kia Brand SUV..... jimmy

Having a whuffo as your significant other
jimmytavino replied to airdvr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
works.....VERY well for us, luckily. Actually, She is not a full blown, 100% whuffo... She is a friend to all, at the DZ, a visitor for partys, boogies, events and certain weekends... More like a "semi-whuffo"..... It has Been going Ok for a long time...decades..... I was a "well into the sport" skydiver when we met..... maybe That makes a difference, as compared to when One partner of an already married couple starts to jump, and the other doesn't... Anyway... she can tell when i am longing for a few jumps, and always sends me out the door, saying " Have fun, be safe , see you tonight"... -
WHY???? so that we have a logical reason..... to repack our parachutes......
-
Agreed Rick...i have always felt that a Load Organizer... especially One who is getting the slot comped is obliged to do MORE than simply "organize" his or her Own smaller group.. Yes.. sure... they need to do a thorough job of THAt. but also should be c ounted on,,, to somewhat assist.....for the entire load... by identifying just WHAT is gonna happen.. with each and EVERY group, and also with those various Solos who may be on the plane... It doesn't take a lot of extra effort, addresses Many, if not ALL of the unspoken concerns that folks may have, and just adds a bit of extra attention to the safety of the load..At some places, that's exactly what happens , at other places,,, not so much... jmy

who can relate to this??? NOT me.....
-
exactly....visited out that way a few times... Gates' DZ??? got quite a kick outta watching those kids. smoking cigarettes, and carousing WELL into the night... by the Light of the DZ bonfire !!! Many wearing the traditional Garb, and bonnets for the Ladies... and i ABSOLUTELY remember checking out the Horse buggies with some HUGE sound systems !!!!! every word is true... hahahah thanks Dave. as for THIS woman????? Ride Baby Ride...IF that's what you want to DO !!!

Re : Electric.... well then , as for my long drawn out and now USEless post above.....concerning Gas dryers...... . . . . fuggeddaboudit!!!!! my NEW solution.. string a clothesline in the yard..... and buy a big pack of ClothesPins!!!!!!
-
if it's a gas dryer and it's not getting hot, see if there is a small door which you can open...maybe on the front or side. near the bottom. inside there is a coupler which regulates gas to the burner... as it cycles , an electric element should start to glow, and then the regulater will click , gas flow starts.... and you should see the flame start... that's how a gas dryer gets its heat... I have had the case where it clicks... but doesn't ignite at which point the glow element cycles OFF..The drum still rolls.. because that runs off an electric motor,, but there's zero heat.. Dust or lint or any debris can get up in the works and cause that. or else just some sticking of the moving parts.. inside the unit. MY response was to take a small hammer,, and Tap on that regulator assembly, in a few spots.... solidly but without killin' it.... that can help to cause a successful activation of the unit... on the following attempt....leave the access door open so that you can see in there and turn the dryer on...step back to watch . from a distance... It does seem to me that this response is only a temporary fix.. as the problem Can re occur.... and since I am a GUY... it's OK for me to do something something silly/ stupid...... like banging on a gas dryer.... ( and it DID work.....) However a Woman.. Like you.. is probably waaay smarter than that...
