  1. The WaPo investigation had his online friends describing him as hating government overreach in general and the secret intelligence services in particular. How he got a job in the National Guard handling secret intelligence papers is going to be an acute embarrassment to the vetting department.
  2. Good point! My only thought was that if Trump had wanted an honest lawyer he’d have hired one. Instead he was more than happy to work with Mickey C knowing exactly what he brought to the table.
  3. So they’re using the Stand Your Ground justification of one armed man shooting another armed man for no other reason than being scared of an armed man. It really demonstrates the inanity of Republican legislators aims - where the right to openly carry a firearm is absolute, the right to shoot to kill against any perceived threat is absolute, and a guy with a gun shooting another guy with a gun simply because he was afraid of the gun is the perfect example of society working exactly as intended and no rational person could possibly have a problem with that.
  4. Given your obsession with Hunter Biden getting paid, are you ok with Clarence Thomas’s corruption?
  5. Now can it be taught not to ruin a good joke by explaining it?
  6. These are questions you can get by Googling, but for some reason he wanted to ask me. And also, let's take a moment and pause on these questions, Mary Louise, because he made a major policy decision, right? And after doing so, he is just now asking for the basic facts. No great surprise, since that’s how he bought Twitter in the first place.
  7. Since you were unwilling or unable to look into this yourself, I did. Twitter’s own policy is that ‘State affiliated media’ is specifically a label for media outlets were the government have editorial control. Twitter themselves on other parts of their website use NPR as an example of what is not state affiliated media. So NPR are entirely right. Twitter, Musk and you were entirely wrong. Even Musk is already starting to walk back. Will you?
  8. To be fair a huge amount of global mining is bad just due to behaviour of mining companies. Rio Tinto is straight up evil and they're not even the worst.
  9. Could be true - maybe on that $500k yacht trip round south east Asia he never got off the boat. Those beaches just weren’t doing it for him.
  10. Ain’t no culture like right wing cancel culture.
  11. When you thought the Supreme Court couldn’t get any worse… Clarence Thomas fails to declare millions of dollars worth of gifts from Republican mega-donor But what could they possibly be getting in return? ProPublica said it reviewed a record showing that “during just one July 2017 trip, Thomas’ fellow guests included execs at Verizon and PricewaterhouseCoopers, major GOP donors, and one of the leaders of the conservative American Enterprise Institute thinktank”.
  12. Good article. Which bit of it are you scared of?
  13. Wisconsin votes around 50/50 red and blue. It has a Dem governor. It has one Rep US Senator and one Dem US Senator. Due to extreme Republican Gerrymandering it has six Rep US Congressmen vs two Dem Congressmen and a near two thirds Rep majority in both houses of the State legislature. If the Reps pick up one State Senate seat they’ll simply be able to impeach and remove the new Justice. If that doesn’t happen and the new court orders an independent redistricting panel across the state, just wait for the Republicans to bitch and whine about how unfair and underhand it is for the Democrats to change the balance of power.
  14. Oh, well in that case most of the country is geographically independent, so what are you worrying about?
  15. Lol, the irony of you of all people saying that will keep me chuckling quite nicely this afternoon!
  16. Probably the most insightful reporting you’ll see on this story today - Major US bike race founder indicted Trump is perhaps best known as the creator of the Tour de Trump – a major US cycling race run in 1989 and 1990, which later rebranded to the Tour DuPont. When launching the race, Trump estimated that “with a little maturity, with a little time, with a little effort and with NBC’s help, we’ll make this [Tour de Trump] the equivalent of the Tour de France” – a reality that never took shape, due to a lack of maturity, time, and effort. … Trump’s initial foray into cycling was not entirely without controversy. The race was waylaid by anti-capitalist protesters on the first stage, and one of the competing teams was sponsored by leading Dutch brothel, Sauna Diana. In an uncharacteristic show of legal bluster from Trump, his team also sent a cease and desist letter to the organisers of a Colorado event called the Tour de Rump, protesting the similarity in naming, despite the Tour de Rump having existed first. He never changes!

    Fort who?

Why wouldn’t it be paid for by the same people who paid for it to be named in the first place?
  18. “‘No way to prevent this’ says only nation where this keeps happening.”

So you don’t think it’s fucking ridiculous at all?
  20. Yeah, exactly. He didn’t kill or maim anyone. Priorities.
  21. The Jury’s opinion is still just an opinion. That’s a large part of why appeals are a thing, maybe you’ve heard of them? It may suit your feelings to pretend that a Jury retrospectively creates the facts of the case but it’s obviously not true. Again though, I’m really interested to know why a riot that involves people being shot to death is more ‘in hand’ than one that doesn’t?
  22. You mean other than the events? So was OJ, but he’s obviously a murderer just like Rittenhouse is. Its really odd that you think the shooting of several people is a nice controlled, in-hand situation, by the way.

    Fort who?

Believing that renaming a military base erases history is fucking ridiculous, because books still exist. Q) If no new military bases are built and all the existing ones were named after civil war generals - would post civil war history exist? A) Of course it bloody would and no one in their right mind would suggest otherwise. Here’s the thing, naming a military base (or anything else) after someone is not a necessary part of remembering that the wars they were involved with happened. Naming things after someone is an honour, and it is absolutely right and proper that society should be able to decide who is and who is not worthy of honouring.
  24. Joking about racist murderers really brings out your best side.
