  1. If Canada isn't a country whose economy can be compared to the US, then which ones can? Everyone else except China is far closer to Canada than the US. So, according to you, the guy you quoted who was comparing the US to 'other countries' was talking utter bollocks, you dont actually believe a word he was saying, and you were just trying to fool everyone because you really don't have any reason to think there was a problem with the Biden stimulus package
  2. How dare you question his meticulously documented research! Ah damn, funniest thing I've read all day. It's like a compulsion with these guys that whatever incompetence they accuse Harris of they have to immediately demonstrate that they are significantly worse.
  3. And? If you have US citizenship at birth, are you not natural born? If not, why not?
  4. Very good point. He was born outside the US, his dad was not a US citizen, and the GOP had no problem with it, because they knew it was legal. McCain's birth location was never really an issue from either side either, people only ever brought it up to point out to the racist birther morons how stupid they were.
  5. Why are you so sure? The Constitution does not say so, and the issue has never been legally tested. Is a person who the law says has citizenship at birth a natural born citizen? If not, why not?
  6. Then support that point. Just saying that it is so does not convince anyone, and neither does quoting some other guy who is just saying that it is so. Medical insurance? You'll get there eventually anyway. Every single Republican politician alive was against any form of universal government healthcare plan until Obama care, and they screamed and shouted about that for years afterwards. Now? They can't run for office without saying they want to improve it, not scrap it.
  7. Than what countries? And why are we blaming the dems for Trump’s spending?
  8. How about thinking that’s how it works?
  9. Because they don’t subsidise anything with taxpayer dollars? You sure about that?
  10. What about wealth transfers to people who own power stations from people who don’t? The Budget proposal must include language to eliminate subsidies for the oil and gas industry, including the Water’s Edge Election and Research and Development credits. Eliminating these subsidies and tax benefits could result in over $7 billion of recovered funds that can be directed toward California’s clean air and climate programs. https://theclimatecenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/End-Fossil-Fuel-Subsidies-Fact-Sheet.pdf

    Trump

It’s amazing that it makes a difference, right? They’re supposed to be the big tough guy party of personal responsibility, taking it on the chin and getting on with business yet when Trump stands up and says ‘no one has ever been a bigger victim than me’ they lap it up. It’s only when he says it in a whiny petulant voice they start to notice what’s actually going on.
  12. What it calls a subsidy is the difference between the price paid /kw now vs the price paid /kw to those on legacy contracts. But what is each kw actually worth? Can't really say what the subsidy actually is without knowing that. Now why are subsidies necessary? Well, show me any energy infrastructure project that doesn't get subsidies. So where are the folks going who leave? To Tennessee for example, where they spent $1.3Bn (a higher proportion of their GSP) on a football stadium instead? https://reason.com/2023/04/26/stadium-subsidy-stupidity-hits-new-record/ Ok, maybe not there. But I'm sure there is a state somewhere that doesn't use taxpayer dollars to subsidise anything not completely necessary. Yeah, real sure.
  13. They don't. A person born outside the country to one US citizen parent has birthright citizenship. In other words, they are a natural born citizen. Just one part of the racist idiocy that was the birther conspiracy.
  14. In a manner that speaks volumes. But since neither you nor Winsor can come up with a single reason why she is incompetent other than occasionally using the wrong word It strongly suggests that she is quite competent. Which I suppose could count as some sort of praise, so well done for staying on topic this time.

    Trump

Sure, but fuck him after the election. The message that Trump's fiercest critics are his own staffers is an important one. The message that the people who worked most closely with him think he's a clear and present danger to the entire American system of government deserves to be amplified as much as possible, even if those people are still dickheads. I think the media has been very bad at getting across how many of Trumps battles are against normal Republicans, whether it's his lawyers, his cabinet, his attorney general, or the election officials he thinks stole the election from him. Not a Democrat among them.
  16. Not being able to force employees to work uncompensated overtime at no notice if they don’t want to isn’t an inefficiency, it’s just the way the world works now and they have to deal with it. If your employees are willing to do that because you treat them well enough to get them to buy into the company mission to that extent, then these other companies should take a leaf out of your book instead of expecting to be able to bully their way through as they have been doing.
  17. So it doesn't help them - that's neutral. They can keep doing what they're doing if they're happy with it. Nothing stupid there. It does help people whose employers give them no reason to care about their company and instead take as much advantage as they can. That's good, not stupid. So on balance, one neutral effect plus one good effect = a good law.
  18. Kinda, but I also don’t really see the Senate as the odd one out. They’re all the odd one out compared to the other two. The House is the only one with elections every two years where the whole chamber is replaced. The Presidency is the only one elected every 4 years with term limits. The senate is the only one with 3 different 6 year cycles rolling around. Why are any of them the way they are? My assumption would be that as the Senate was supposed to be the one most able to put the good of the country above partisan concerns it was thought to benefit from more continuity.
  19. The presidency is not up for grabs at every congressional election.
  20. I like that you can hear his voice crack just a little bit as he’s trying not to laugh at the joke he’s about to make

    Trump

Let me know when they’re 20 cents. I still find it hard to gloat over Trump’s stake being valued at ‘only’ $2.5Bn.
  22. I'd be really interested to hear more about this criticism when one of her former high level aides appears at the RNC to talk about her being a clear and present danger to democracy. But as it stands, yeah. She really is bringing Republicans and Democrats together. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/former-trump-official-stephanie-grisham-speak-democratic-convention-rcna167296
  23. And for someone so obsessed with projecting intelligence it’s remarkable that he seems to think we don’t notice.
