He was the President who abandoned the Afghan Defence forces to the Taliban. He was the President who stopped fighting them and allowed them to prepare to take the country back. He’s the President who gave them thousands of fighters back. Is he responsible for any of it?

Biden. No-one’s saying he did that bit brilliantly. But it happened because he decided the best thing was to honour the agreements Trump put in place. Again - after the utter disaster for the Afghans of 2020, their total abandonment by Trump and the resurgence of the Taliban, how much a redeployment would it have taken just to get back to 2019?

Lol, no. Read the article and your own arguments again. You and he are saying the total withdrawal agreement was the thing to keep the Taliban at the table. The 800 people was the plan that he says he thought would actually work, and therefore the thing that you said was absolutely definitely unquestionably the thing they were actually going to do. Except that, as you’ve just so brilliantly pointed out, it was a terrible plan and never would have worked.

And Trump was President when he abandoned the Afghan defence forces, told the Taliban he was handing them the country and have them the space they needed to plan their takeover. How many soldiers would need to be redeployed and money need to be spent just to undo that damage, let alone get to the point where any withdrawal could actually work?

He didn’t have the plan that he publicly negotiated and signed. Nooooo they weren’t going to do that. They didn’t have the plan Chris Miller said they secretly had of leaving 800 people there. Noooooooo they weren’t going to do that. So what plan did they have? Effectively you’re saying that all of Trump’s proclamations of being the guy to get the US out of Afghanistan were just a total con, they had no plan to leave at all?

Trump was in charge when they came up with the plan. Trump was in charge when they enacted it in 2020, abandoning the Afghan defence forces to suffer huge losses while the Taliban built its strength for the total subjugation of the country.

Why would he want to burnish his reputation instead of meekly accepting his association with absolute failure? Why would he want to bolster his position in the far right think tank network by being willing to spin any tale that paints MAGA as savants and the Democrats as idiots? Remember that the only thing you have in support of a secret Trump plan to ignore the withdrawal agreement is a partisan Trump administration insider saying, after the plan he’d publicly agreed to had collapsed, that they never really meant it? Remember that the military, other Trump insiders and the reality of Trump’s abandonment of Afghan forces prove that what he’s saying is a lie?
