  1. Unless you have a LARGE disk drive...80gig or more..then you don't need a valid FAT32 partition... you shoud just be fdisking and formatting
  2. I'm with nightengale on this..open her up and check your connections. If you can get to dos you should be able to switch drives... your boot disk should have all the utilities you need to get going... try another boot disk after you check the connections throughout. sometimes the freaky stuff can happen when they are too hot... check for crud/dust near the fans, and clean that out carefully...
  3. X=20 minutes (hence being home 20 min earlier than usual) x(20)+ y(60) amount of time arrived early 20+60=80 she met him 1/2 way 80/2=40 min. I'm definitely not a math genious... but that what I was thinking....
  4. That's still less than the average person puts in a year, and in only 9 months. (avg teacher 1920 hours per year w/2 months off, avg. citizen 2000 hours also with no paid vacation and lucky to get a few days off) Grading papers... etc.. We ALL have to keep learning & educating ourselves to keep our jobs, it makes us a valuable asset and able to KEEP your job. I take classes noone pays for, I work hours every night without getting paid.. it's called preperation and education, and if I don't do it... well, someone else will come along who knows more and take my clients away. Yet I still find time to do all of that, teach my daughter and stay above poverty level. FYI.... the 23,000 that you were making.... is WAY above average.... in fact, in 2003 the average family of 5 didn't make that much money. (http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/03poverty.htm). So you were living on more money as most american families with 5 kids.... (including Californians) It IS a tough job... but greed is not the answer. Assistance from the parents IS.
  5. Hi, I have several hundred sites under my belt in the last few years... from day traders, to vacation rentals, wind tunnels, and intimate apparel. Variable Width pages are OK, but you can loose some placement control (this site is built using a community software program... sangiro correct me if I'm wrong there, which isn't ideal for most situations) I design for 800X600 and most of the time simply the whole site. This helps across a wide variety of screen sizes.. and even if you have your favorites open, it still looks good. Honestly though, if you want everyone to see it, stick to 640X480 because that is really the average size... so my trick is to make sure the IMPORTANT stuff is inside of 640X480 and everything outside of that isn't necessary for those who don't see it. With several dozen clients, I can safely say, build it to suit your clients monitor because they will be the one looking at it all the time, and will not be satified with excuses to any other way. The folks who have the supersize monitors understand that THEY are the minority... check out my clickys, I design them all myself and carbonezone.com is new.... also using the same concepts.
  6. Thank you for backing up some of my finer points... 1. the public education system isn't that old... 2. no one is more qualified to teach a child then the parent. We don't homeschool anymore, but we started out that way. I have had these beliefs since I was in school. We stopped because we couldn't get enough social interaction for her in... she was missing some social skills that it's taken 4 years to acquire... however... We ALSO homeschool to round out what they don't accomplish in school, own a business jointly (always4kids gift baskets), and work together on nearly everything, including flying although she still has much to learn. It has built a STRONG relationship to enlighten her with flying.... perhaps the world would be a better place if we could teach all children to fly. Sean, looking forward to teachin YOURS!! Necklaces are secured btw.
  7. 270,000 feet for me NOT including Hop & Pops.. 1440 Minutes flying (not including jumps) 8,100,000 feet for hubby, I'll have to get back to you on his flight minutes... 22 years now, whew!
  8. [Phone rings] Me: Hello? Client: Hi Dawn, I'm having problems checking my email, everytime I try to get it nothing happens.... Me: Ok, tell me what you are doing exactly... Client (panicked): Well, NOTHING, my screen is completely blank!!!! Me: Ok, it's alright, first, is your computer turned on? Client (confused): well of course it is!! Me: What is the little light doing on the front of your compter box doing? Client: Nothing... I don't see a light... Me: Ok, please push the power button to start with.. Client (embarassed): Oh, I'm sorry, I'll try it now and if I'm still having problems, I'll call you back. I KID YOU NOT, this is an actual conversation I have had DOZENS of times with countless different people over the last 5 years... RIDICULOUS!!!!
  9. Hi Ed, I can answer your wind tunnel question.. yes, it is very demanding physically... but some light flying for you after you've removed stitches probably won't be bad.. if you keep everything calm and don't try to do any major FF in there, you should be fine. Just be careful, because a fall or run in with the steel and Lexan in a SkyVenture can be quite painful! Good luck!!
  10. Quatermain discovered King Solomon's Mines. At that time in fictional history, we didn't know much about Africa, but Livingstone was trying to find out where the Nile came from/led to...
  11. Your probably right, I just posed the idea to the two girls here now, both 9, and they aren't for it!! LOL
  12. isn't this the problem in a nutshell? even if you don't have kids, it should be important..
  13. Andrea, no not you in particular, we have spoken before and I know you are INVOLVED for sure...but, tell me, how involved are the parents of your childrens friends? On average, you kids spend 35-40 hours per week at school, then they spend and average of 50-60 hours NOT in school.... I believe that we ALL homeschool, at some level or another, but for most, the minimum level. I work at home. It's a choice I made. I have opened my own businessess and consider myself a successful mom-prenuer, having children was the choice I made... I don't feel I have the RIGHT to rethink that decision and decide a 'certain lifestyle' is worth the risk to my child's future. If I have to have a cardboard coffee table so that I can give my kid the MOST of me...then so be it. My daughter co-owns a business with me www.Always4Kids.com and together, we learn everything. I cannot imagine how this can't work for the motivated parents out there. again, I agree that money is not the solution, still I believe parents, EVEN ME, can do MORE than I am...
  14. Gee, I'm so sorry you never got any ANSWERS here. Let's see if I can help. Mary is flying in the Lifted Entertainment tunnel formerly known as X-treme Air. We have brought it to the WFFC for the last 2 years, although this year we are taking a different tunne. Mary is flying on the day we had the Wind Tunnel Competition that awarded a $1000 first prize. These portable tunnels operate with propellers and deisel engines and most times an airbag of sorts on top. In this picture you are looking at the alternate airbag that the tunnel has..the other stands up in a cone type structure with netting all around. We represent nearly every facility in the World in some way shape or form. If you have questions, we are the place to get them. We do have a portable design capable of flying heavier-weight flyers, if you are intersted in purchasing or renting one, visit Bodyflight Conepts, there is a link in my signature. Additionally, Bodyflight Network is where we all gather on the WWW, much like you dz.commers. That site lists all functioning facilities world wide, there are over 30 tunnels to date, and more coming.
  15. I was sort of hoping this strategy was to MAKE us all realize that it IS NOT the governments RESPONSIBILITY to educate our children. Seems like if they don't help us, eventually, we'll have to help ourselves. We can make a difference, ONE KID AT A TIME
  16. Hey, I took so long. As a former LA County resident, I can attest to your lack of lifestyle, much like you, I had a cardboard box for a coffee table, and cinderblock/2X4 entertainment center. I have lived in several states since then, and you know what I've found? Milk in Florida, Texas, Illinios, Tennessee, California and everywhere else except maybe NY & HI, is stil $3.50 per gallon! My rent has ranged from 425/mo in California (N. Hollywood) to $500 for the 5 bedroom house I live in now (with a roommate). I ate all my groceries from the Arleta 99 cent store, and ya know what.... it was not so bad at all. There are times I may have wanted more, but so what? It was the choice I made, and to this day, I would still choose being happy over money. I hope that I can teach my daughter the same values in life, so that she may be happy with a roof over her head, food in her belly (gourmet or not) and a family who loves her. These are the things we need to get back to.. It COSTS nothing to educate and empower our kids. I too wish that you could've made more money teaching, but in a way, I'm glad that those who are still teaching, are not there for the money. I supply my kids class with as much as I can. Volunteer whenever is possible, but that doesn't have anything to do with the amazing amount of time & power I have over her the rest of the time she is not in school. We've been in classes where everyone had to share 5 books, there was no blackboard, and no teachers aid... oddly enough, she received the best CARE in that class of all others no matter how high tech. It doesn't take money to make a difference in a child's life
  17. Sad, your right... but 23000 per year is quite alot of money for a single person. I supported our family of 3 on 1/2 that money for a couple of years, and to this day, with 3 businesses, we don't make much more than that in take home income. Seems to me, you were living outside of your means. You either love your job or don't, it's a worthless life if you only motivated by the money. We're talking in a forum of people who spend thousands each year on skydiving... its all about choices... don't hate me, I'm just passionate about these things... stepping off my soapbox now...
  18. I'm not quite sure how to take that. Are you being serious or sarcastic? I am for children having a quality education. I'm for teachers being paid very well for their services. I'm not for cutting programs that make for well-rounded, responsible young adults, but I'm not for mismanagement of the community's funds, or for the schools (and community $) being solely responsible for that outcome. Like I said, as individual taxpayers, we're in a quandry. I was only hoping to make it evident that, indeed, education is on the minds of voters, and that I feel for professionals who have to choose between doing what they love and are trained for, and being able to support their own family. I mean it seriously. The arguement is truly centered around Responsibility if you ask me, and you seem to be asking parents to take some responsibility.
  19. I am glad to see that you are on the side of empowering our future!
  20. No qualified to teach my daughter everything I know? I think you are wrong. I did not attempt to place a level of accomplishement on this... as I stated... "I VOTE that we all TEACH our children everything we know, keep teachers wages the same and make their jobs HALF AS HARD as they have become" At this level of participation, everyone has an easier time.. have we forgotten that SCHOOL public or private, is not all that old a concept. In fact a couple hundred years ago, we didn't bother. We taught our kids what they needed to excell in our world. I see an entire generation who may know the Pathagorean Theorem but they don't know anything about the real world. I thank the teachers for trying hard, but if I were them, I would be blaming the parents of these difficult to teach kids that are making their jobs so hard, not the person signing my check.
  21. I first wanted to skydive in the 4th grade. I started tunnel flying at 20 y/o and made my first skydive at 22. I did it cuz everyone said skydiving would be easy since I knew how to fly already.. and they were right! Now I only jump once in a while when I need to strech my wings, otherwise I stick to the tunnel. It's hard to get out either way when I work behind a pc 14 hours a day, but hey, the money is GOOD
  22. Here's is a NOVEL idea..... PARENTS yes I'm a parent and daily I am disgusted with the LACK of interest parents have in their children. They mostly believe the government is here to raise them, feed them, educate them, employ them... NO WONDER things are such a mess.. I VOTE that we all TEACH our children everything we know, keep teachers wages the same and make their jobs HALF AS HARD as they have become maybe we should start a new thread on this, I know I could go on for ever about sugar, caffeine, HOURS of homework, bribery, double standards, etc, etc, etc btw mine is 9
