I would definitely limit TV, but not home school. There's too much I don't know and can't expose a child to all by myself, I'd be doing them a disservice. There are more ideas out there and people than I can get them in touch with alone. And I want to teach my children how to deal with the world, not shelter them from it. 7 year olds know more about sex than most parents think they do... the kids just don't bring that kind of thing up with parents because even young they know that discussing it is taboo. A lot of my neighbor kids visit our house. And it blows my mind the things they like to 'educate' me about sex, even from very young ages. Unless kids are locked in caves, there's no way to avoid it. Parents can either educate their kids how to handle sex topics responsibly and not be ashamed to ask parents questions, or they can let their kids find out from sources they may not be so comfortable with. Either way, the kids are going to learn about sex. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

A lot of the bad rap chiropractors get is from the negative comments by the MDs. Unfortunately, even docs don't know what we don't know, and that gets us in trouble sometimes and is bad for our patients. There's more to life than drugs/surgery. Like the old saying, if you have a hammer, all the world looks like a nail. I did see a chiro once for a back issue, he looked at the x-rays, and was honest with me. He said my spine is fine, nothing for him to treat, and he referred me to a good PT who fixed the problem. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Sad part is that he is trying to whine his way back onto the team. I sure hope that they don't cave in and do it. I'm no Eagles fan (I'm a Latrobe girl, Steelers!!), but TO is a disgrace to football in general. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I have an older Racer. The master rigger at our DZ added riser covers that have worked very well. The only thing I don't like about it is the small blip of bridle that you can't stash the whole way, I'm a little snag phobic. I like that the reserve pins are against my back though. There are pros and cons of every design isn't there? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

If this thread is about being proud of being non-Christian, why would Christianity need to be a part of it or need to be debated? The Proud to Be Christian thread was started by someone secure in her beliefs and happy with her stance. She didn't compare herself to non-Christians or put non-Christians down in her initial post. Ideally, this thread should be no different. I'm proud of being independent, of my own belief system, of how I treat others, of the difference that I make in the world on a daily basis. I'm proud of the person I grew up to be, proud that I have no label (Muslim, Christian, etc) that I need to throw around at anyone. I'm proud of my own beliefs, but also proud of respecting everyone else's too. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

School is only lame if you haven't figured out what your place in the world is and found that major that really makes you happy. You may want to consider a different school/major, but definitely finish. I have 2 graduate degrees, love my 'full time' job, but still make a few extra bucks as a packer on the weekends which keeps me at the DZ every weekend. You really can have it all. Knock it off with the smoking. I know, easier said than done. Though I told my husband 3 years ago he'd have no chance at a long term relationship with me as a smoker. He cold turkied that day. I married him 4 months later and he hasn't smoked since

How "In Shape" are we as Skydivers?
peregrinerose replied to ntrprnr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree with everyone else, in a sz 4, there's no way in hell you could have a horrible looking body. I'm a sz 10 (and 5'3") and perfectly happy at this size. Sure, I could probably drop another 10 lbs, but I'm strong, I work out 5 days a week and am a packer on weekends. I feel healthy and don't frighten small children with my appearance, so can't be all bad. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
Two of our TIs got $100 each from a pair of students. Since they are such generous folk, the DZ ate well that night... fresh steak. Yummmmm!!! My husband and I chipped in to buy beer for everyone with our packing tip money. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Were you looking at a blue sky or something else bright at the time? Can just be the extra light that passes through white blood cells as they flit through your retinal blood vessels. That is normal, everyone sees it if they look for it while staring at a blue sky. Or I agree with the above, perhaps mild hypoxia. Can't hurt to visit your eye doc. Chances are you are normal, but it is better to just double check. Jen (eye doc) Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

An instructor or rigger who can't pack a main themselves probably wouldn't be teaching a packing course though I didn't mean to imply that any instructor should teach a student to pack. Though if a rigger can't pack a main, no way in hell will they touch my reserve!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

People get hurt showing off or focusing so hard on hitting a target that they lose sight of other issues like other traffic. I'm still very new, but spend a lot of time listening to the stories all the 'old farts' have to tell. Some of them scared the shit out of me, and several involved bets or trying to do a specific landing for video on the ground. Some of the endings were less than happy. What worked for me... learning the most important hand signal for things going well... the beer signal, made me laugh every time.

Talk with the rigger more than the packers. Packers are not riggers. You can watch them and get the general idea, but don't learn how to pack from them. I am a packer, and my policy is that I'll only watch or give pointers after you have taken a packing class from a rigger and packed a few times in front of the rigger and/or coach/instructor. Packers are not certified as teachers, so no matter how good we are or how much we want to help you, it's safer to go straight to those who are certified to teach. Have you thought about getting a second dog? Mine bark a hell of a lot less since they know they are not truly alone. It eliminated most of the separation anxiety thing and made the first dog a much happier camper. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

So let's analyze if oral sex is a sin or if there really is no such thing as sin as there is no God?? Then it can stay right here Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I've been manifested, and pulled myself from the load due to that 'not feel right' thing. Once beside the plane, and once before walking to the plane, so geared up both times. It's tougher to ride the plane down (or otherwise scratch from the load) than it is to get out and jump, I think. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Not what you want to hear, but LOTS of practice. Ask your favorite rigger if they'd mind watching you and give you pointers as you go, they all seem to have different ways of doing things, some will work better for you than others, but it's nice to get those different viewpoints. Hope your first rig isn't brand new ZP!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I have no desire to witness a fatality/injury or a video showing the same. I can learn from video of the mal itself (ending prior to the impact), or from incident reports, or seeing video of similar mals that were non fatal. I can learn how to drive safely without seeing "Faces of Death" or related videos, this is no different. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Damn, wish I had that option when I started. I bought a used rig with a Sabre 170, just downsized (at 130 jumps and 20 lb weight loss) to a Spectre 150 bought new. I've been jumping a year. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I have never had a problem finding work. I work in private practice 2 days a week and fill-in work in the area the rest of the time. I have to turn down a lot of work, can't be in two offices at once Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
