  1. I don't think the pack job needs to be inspected, but the rigger needs to be physically present and supervising the packers. Having just gotten my riggers' license, I am now officially a self supervising packer Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. Just don't inhale on a closed jump plane the day after mexican night Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. Which surgery to get is different for everyone, and really between patient and doc, it's based on Rx, pupil size, corneal thickness, dry eye, end goals, etc. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. Lots of luck being the skydiving queen in Chambersburg.. you'll have plenty of competition for that one If you do jump in Cburg, my husband and I are the packers there, so introduce yourself! Maytown is also a good DZ in the area, so don't forget that one too. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  5. A lot of LASIK surgeons are actually going back to PRK for some patients due to safety and long term risk issues. Post op, you are less comfortable than LASIK, but for a lot of people, it's the better option long term. From a skydiving stance, if it was me, I'd probably consider PRK. It's surgery.. you are supposed to be nervous
  6. My husband and I are heading to AZ next week for jumping and hiking. With only 160-170 jumps each and only jumping at smaller DZs (Chambersburg and Maytown), we're both a little curious about the increased traffic that will probably be there, comparitively speaking. So, any of you folks that jump there regularly have any words of wisdom or suggestions for us? We'd be there Thurs afternoon, so hope to jump Thurs and Fri. Since we're packers, it is a true vacation to jump while only packing for ourselves
  7. Monovision is crappy for depth perception, particularly night driving. Not the best idea for skydiving either. I ditto what was said in another post... get fitted with a contact lens for the near eye so that you can see 20/20 with it. Wear it for jumping. You may want to consider a one day contact... wear it for a day and toss it. Most economical option for part time contact lens wearers and saftest/healthiest option for a post-refractive surgery eye. 8. I work long days and have 3 dogs. rott/lab mix, greyhound, and cattle dog. All are adoptees. Have you considered adopting a mutt? Another good option is greyhound. They are extremely lazy animals and do just fine by themselves, either in a crate (they are used to a kennel all the time) or without one. There are a lot that needs homes, cost about $200 to adopt one (that includes spay/neuter). Having a pack of dogs actually made our lives easier.. they entertain each other so much that we don't need to work as hard at it, plus there are no separation anxiety issues at all. The dogs all learned from each other, so training was a bit easier too. Ours go to the dropzone with us and live in our trailer with us on weekends. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. I was just thinking that... the best scene in the movie. In HS, my best friend and I wore out that section on the tape. Not that problem with DVDs though Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  10. Broken leg going down a very long slide on waxed paper and blowing the landing. Gashed my arm wide open on a piece of glass. Lymphangitis from an infected blister (ok, that was packing related... my very first weekend as a packer, no blisters since though). Husband broke his arm in an altercation with a wall. But why is it that when any form of injury worse than a paper cut results in everyone you know asking if it's from skydiving?? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  11. I'm so sorry Greys really do become family members. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. We have a greyhound too, so absolutely understand what sweet natured dogs they are. Here's sending happy healing wishes for him! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. Aahhh, but if you are an insurance company... wisen up a bit. That accident may be because the moron at fault is not legal to drive... check his freaking side vision. I just pulled a license from 2 guys who have absolutely no vision on the right side, have had multiple accidents as a result, and are bitching about their insurance premium rather than be smart enough to take themselves off the road. Neither were legal to drive from a vision stance to begin with. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  16. Isn't it great to have that many so close, Grant?
  17. Cool. Optometrists are number 4 :-) Wish I made 116K though. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  18. Ditto on the crate training. I have 3 dogs, one we got as a puppy, the other two as adults (3 years and 5 years old). None housetrained. All did beautifully with crate training. The dog has no idea why you are shoving it's face in crap, so no point in doing it. However, if you catch it in the act, flip it on it's back, grab the throat, and growl. Worked extremely well on the 3 year old since he had alpha tendencies big time, so it gave him the picture that I was boss as well as got him housetrained. He figured it out within a couple days. The other two took a week or so, max. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  19. It bugs me, but doesn't. If we are talking 'full time mom' of pre-school aged children, I can understand that. After all, if they worked, they'd be paying a full time daycare to provide the same service and I don't see any difference between sending a kid to daycare and being the daycare. Once the kids are all school age and in school all day, I have no respect for the women that call themselves 'full time moms' since they are no longer caring for chidren at home, just sitting on asses all day (my mom was like this... didn't even do housework, just sat around). 20. What do you call a clumsy opthalmologist? Eye Dropper How does the blind skydiver know when to pull? When the leash goes slack. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  21. It's kind of scary reading all the lack of faith in packers post. My husband and I are the two packers at the DZ. I also have a riggers' ticket (which makes me a self supervising packer, definitely not a rigger yet!) Is it arrogant to think we are both good packers? We haven't had any complaints, no cutaways on either of our pack jobs (have I just jinxed myself??) I enjoy packing and think it's silly for a packer to pay a packer. When we visit other DZ, it is a true vacation to only have to pack for ourselves

    Rabbits.

Very cute. I hope they are all fixed. Pisses me off all of the abandoned 'Easter Bunnies' that show up in rabbit rescues every year. I have had rabbits since I was a kid, pets, not food. One was free to run around the house, he was litter trained. He would eat chicken. The first rabbit I've ever had that would not litter train is one I have now, FatAss. That fucker can actually projectile pee a good 2 feet, I have no idea how he does it. He's just itching to be meat. He's a rex, I have a chinchilla rabbit as well. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  23. My husband and pondered this tonight and thought we'd ask the all knowing dz.commers about it... If you spontaneously combust in your home and it burns down as a result, are you guilty of arson since you did technically start the fire yourself? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
