Well done on your 2.5K, Jeff. After 17 years I'm a fair way behind you (I blame the UK weather). But never mind the photos under canopy - where's the video of your landing?
-
I'm not keen on this advice. Even in countries where it would be legal (it wouldn't in mine), you're introducing a potential risk to prove a point. I'd prefer someone jump with an altimeter but make a conscious effort on that jump to use his/ her 'internal clock' and visuals to judge altitude, cross-referencing with the altimeter as necessary.

Man, I'm not surprised. There are huge holes in that canopy! How come you didn't you go to your reserve?

Where I'd like to be, boogie season is in December!

I love this. It's supposed to be Shah's dating advice column, but yeah - everyone else feel free to put the boot in! My advice is, she obviously isn't completely over the guy since she's telling him by video call. If you're serious about dumping someone these days you do it via SMS!

You know, I really wouldn't recommend getting naked at work unless you're like a porn star or a life model or something. Other types of career get limited by that sort of behaviour.

It's actually a far deeper film than Liar, Liar could ever be. I was happily surprised by where it went. Pleased to hear that - I'd only heard bad things about it so far, mostly saying that the script was mean-minded rather than funny. I do think Ricky Gervais is a bit of a one-trick pony, though. His movie roles (mainly cameos before this) haven't lived up to the promise of his classic TV work.

I can't do the YouTube thing from work, and I'm going to be at work for a while. Do you have a link to an mp3 or something? After reading all the comments I'm keen to hear it!

usually from facebook. Hm. Well at least that explains why nobody ever remembers mine!

Funny you should say that, cos in its former life it used to have one...

Do yall not have duct tape over there?? Yep, but we used up the last roll sticking the wings back on. Actually our Caravan is relatively shiny and new, but it's very cramped with a full load. I'm thinking we could maybe tape a cardboard box to the roof and put a couple of jumpers in there, free up some space inside.

You haven't seen our aeroplane.

Is she still around? She used to post here a lot, but I've seen nuthin' lately.

People who scribble on your face when you're passed out...
MikeJD replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
A guy passed out sitting up at my DZ, and someone poured correction fluid over his head. He half woke up, rubbed his head and managed to smear it all over his face as well. That stuff doesn't come off in a hurry. He spent a while scrubbing at it the next day but eventually had to give up and go home cos he looked so ridiculous. This is one of the reasons I choose to stay in a tent instead of the bunk rooms! -
This is one of life's pleasures, like scratching an itch. Nobody should be denied it. I do try to be discreet though. The worst is when you're not quite alone but nobody seems to be looking, and you pull what turns out to be a huge glob of mucus out of your nose and then don't know what to do with it.

Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes. I like short poems, and there's so much atmosphere crammed into this one. We studied it at school and it's never left me. Hope this isn't in here somewhere already - I couldn't face going back over so many pages to check! Full Moon and Little Frieda A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket - And you listening. A spider's web, tense for the dew's touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming - mirror To tempt a first star to a tremor. Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath - A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk. 'Moon!' you cry suddenly, 'Moon! Moon!' The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed.

Most ridiculous skydiving scene in a movie is...
MikeJD replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
The Living Daylights, I think. Prior to that Bond and his buddies exit a C-130 over Gibraltar, so he has already used and cut away his main. At least they got that bit right! I actually like the skydiving scenes in most Bond movies, and there have been lots over the years. The one with Jaws in Moonraker(?) is still a classic. Someone else mentioned Get Smart, which seems to have been inspired by that scene. -
UK first to offer new VAFF training - advertised on "Hollyoaks"

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! -
Is it nude because you're shaving it? Anyway, I checked how you were doing, and you get a 'yes' from me. But I want to make clear that it's a sympathy vote.

Most ridiculous skydiving scene in a movie is...
MikeJD replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
When I saw your thread title I was going to jump straight in with that one. It's not just the absurdity of the scene - there are plenty of rival movies on that score - it's that it's so badly done. I don't remember seeing a single frame of 'real' footage. The whole thing reeked of completely unconvincing green screen work. I thought Shoot 'Em Up had a few nice scenes, but that wasn't one of them! -
Are they actually allowed to, as in it being approved by the APF? Or do they just do it? There's a heck of a lot more cloudbusting than there used to be since GPS became so universal, but I'm curious as to the reasons why only some DZs would be exempt (assuming they all fall under one national governing body).

If it's a general practitioner rather than a specialist surgery, then I blame a lot of the patients. Seriously. Maybe things are different in the US, but in the UK it amazes me how many people insist on seeing their GP at the first sign of a sniffle, clogging up waiting rooms and trading viruses with every other hypochondriac in the area. This is probably the downside of 'free' health care! Geez, take the day off work, swallow a couple of aspirin and go to bed (not you, Deedy!

This is what I don't get about this game. When Americans play it are they thinking about trousers, or underwear? Cos the former wouldn't be half as funny.

So is 'dontclickthis' the new 'NSFW'?

Cool. I've never actually bought a custom canopy, but when I finally get around to it one I may just have to steal your idea. I'm thinking that effect would also look really nice mirrored on the top skin at the other end. By the way - if someone else does end up jumping it, I hope your paths don't cross at an inappropriate moment.
