  1. My God, what a tragic story regarding your friends. But I got a smile out of picturing you skateboarding in a Darth Vader helmet. Imagine if the ol' Dark Lord himself had made his movie entrance that way. Rebel troops wait anxiously, their blasters at the ready. A huge explosion blows off the door at the end of the corridor. Imperial stormtroopers pour through it and a brief battle ensues. Once it is over, a lone black figure, his cloak flowing behind him, skateboards out of the smoke...
  2. They gaze longingly at your avatar. No, not your current one.
  3. I wouldn't like to say who is 'best' or 'worst' from their online identities. But she seems nice.
  4. I tend to use the words "skydive" and "skydiver" with non-jumpers, since it normally gives them a more accurate idea of what I mean - that is, they associate with freefall. In conversation with skydivers I usually refer to it as jumping - "Are you jumping today?" "Is s/he a jumper?"
  5. Killjoys. Are you not even allowed to do the 'duck face' expression?
  6. Thanks for all the waffle, but WHO I refer you to my previous answer - yes, I'm that easy. But if I'm going to be pinned down, I'll go with Susanna Hoffs, or Charlotte Hatherley (caution - BIG picture!) or Susan Sarandon. OK, so one of those women is also an actress, and another is an actress pretending to be a musician.
  7. Yeah, I liked the movie too. I thought Petit's ego made him difficult to like, but I guess that's part of his eccentric charm. As for the images, they make me giddy. Just the idea of lying back on a wire at that height gives me the shakes!
  8. Haven't there been enough Skyride threads already?
  9. Nearly everyone's nominating actors, but I'd like to put in a vote for female musicians in general - not so much singers, but any instrumentalist. There's something so sensual about a woman playing an instrument that I think I could develop a crush on any one of them. Heck, she doesn't even have to play it - just a guitar slung around the neck will do!
  10. I loved the irony of this comment: "So whomever came up w/ this idea is an actual, bonified idiot!!!!!" bonified?? I don't really get the whole vanity plate thing - the purpose of licence/ registration plates is to identify your vehicle. I see a fair number of custom plates on the road with unusual fonts and stuff, and I'm surprised people get away with them.
  11. Oh, my days of trying to pull women in pubs and clubs (such as they ever were) are loooooong behind me.
  12. Excuse me?? I read all the way to the end of this thread. And I can only assume that no English girls have stumbled across it yet.
  13. A bit off topic, but I'm surprised how often you guys in the US post links to UK news sites - not just the BBC, but a lot of British newspapers. Coincidence, or do we really have the best news reporting?
  14. "Psssshhhh" I think that's the winner!!
  15. I still do. But only when I clasp my hands behind my head.
  16. yeah that's the dude....I think she needs new glasses. Oh, I dunno. Stath... Shah... even the names look alike. Has anyone ever seen them both in the same place at once? I think your wife might be onto something.
  17. Or does she mean the man they call... The Stath?
  18. Nooo, don't do that. You know how contrary teenagers are.
  19. Yep, that's me in my cutesy, colourful cartoon world.
  20. Nick, very sorry to hear your news. I always think that hearing about the death of someone's parent reminds us that we should get in touch with our own - so many people seem to have little or no contact with their parents. I hope you're consoled that you have good memories of your last conversation with him.
  21. I buy tampons, lingerie, makeup, no problem - doesn't bother me at all. Oh wait. I don't have a girlfriend. [Backs slowly away from the thread]
  22. Ever since starting to lose mine (like half a lifetime ago!), I just got it cut shorter and shorter. When I reached the 'number two all over' stage I realised there was no point paying a barber any more and started clipping it myself - which was seriously liberating. At this point I still haven't had the courage to take a razor to my head and shave it completely - too much of a statement, maybe - but it's clipped so short (and I've lost so much) that it would barely make any difference. I think I have a soft enough face that I don't look too mean, but in any case what am I going to do? Sport a 'comb over'? On balance I guess it'd be nice to have a full head of hair, but I've long since forgotten what that was like.
  23. A PC with a powerful fan makes for a pretty good vaccuum cleaner. But you do have to remember to empty it from time to time.
  24. I'm all for positivity, before and after the dive. Anyone who's been organised by members of world class teams will have noticed their upbeat and non-judgemental attitude to dirt dives and debriefs. There's no reason to come down on someone because they lack skill or experience, and we are all learning all the time. But for me there's still definitely a line between not taking a jump too seriously, and putting in the effort to make it at least reasonably successful. Ever since I started doing 'serious' teams, I do find myself getting frustrated when fun jumps don't go to plan just because people can't be bothered to prepare them on the ground, or do what they know they should in the air. I don't expect perfection, and God knows I'm not capable of it most of the time - but to me the most fun jumps are the ones that 'work', not the ones with the most funnels.
