Lots of information at this site http://www.uspa.org "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

could my most recent pack job lead to a mal?
IanHarrop replied to Rudderow's topic in Safety and Training
If in doubt... A repack is in order even if only to remove the doubt in your mind during your next jump. No need to add unnecessary stress. I could offer an opinion on what improperly stowed brakes could result in, but having never had such a problem myself it would only be conjecture on my part. So I leave those explanations to the experts. That being said I don't imagine there are many good out comes. I started skydiving 29 years ago and my parents only recently stopped worrying about me. The solution? My son got hooked and is jumping now! So I suggest Transference as the solution. Once he started jumping they stopped worrying about me and now worry about their grandson! "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

That Hemp Smoke is a terrible thing... unless you have the right kind of hemp.

A new dropzone staffed by great people with lots of experience. This is friendly dropzone run by skydivers for skydivers. Good mix of tandem and experienced jumpers means no problems getting on loads. A great vibe both during and after skydiving!

I sure like Paralog and the most recent version will actually tie GPS into earth.google.com and of course interfdace with your Neptune, to give you a lot of information http://www.paralog.net/ "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I understand where you are coming from but as dz.com continues to attract more members, I believe that the continuation of the same questions and concerns repeated over and over means that information is being spread to more people. Just think of the teacher in a classroom teaching grade 3. They get the same questions but the answers go to different people and those people benefit from the answers. Next year we'll do it all over again for a new group of grade 3 students. Maybe its repetitive but it has value.

I did on what I thought was a serious accident. Please refrain from a "why dont you ... " i.e. the 2 wrongs make a right philosophy PtL Which of the poll answers supplied were applicable to the 3 out 4 things you witnessed that you did not report? "It gives some hard numbers." Sorry, I disagree and given that the statements made here have already been subject to ridicule, I cannot just just "pick the closest one" as I expect that the numbers this poll generates will be interpreted incorrectly. My canopy has about 100 jumps on it and was new when I got it. It has almost always been packed indoors. The label is almost un-readable except for the model, size, serial number and DOM that was written in permanent ink by the manufacturer. This canopy was made by a major manufacturer. Thank you for providing more documentation to support my opinion that circumcision hurts. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I think thats a cop out. If a incident occurred then post what ever facts you know even if its just a terse "Incident at DZ X on x/x/2005, no details can anyone give further information" Setting a seed like this has many times caused someone else to pipe up with concrete info PtL Well then why didn't you post that for the things you saw? Can anyone who has has there child cut explain just how much pain it really seemed to cause. Of all the things I have done to may body that hurt, I just can't imagine that being cut inflicted much pain. Check out this site that has several video and slideshows of the process as performed in hospitals: http://www.circumcisionquotes.com/video.html I don't know how to rate the pain objectively but subjectively these babies appear to hurt. Edited to add: This site with the videos is obviously VERY biased in favor of not circumcising kids. Perhaps not the best site to use as a reference but only what I could find in a short time. Graph of trends in the US. http://www.childtrendsdatabank.org/figures/85-Figure-1.gif Numbers for other countries. http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/ Note that in Canada (a culturally advanced society that I call home), only 11.46% of newborn males were circumcised in 2003. According to this article: http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/weeklyquestion/a/022002_ask.htm "It may help to look at some of the reasons that parents use to have their sons circumcised. One common reason is because 'everyone else is circumcised'. This is really not true at all. Worldwide, only about 10% of males are circumcised, and even in the United States, circumcision rates have declined from 80% in 1980 to 64% in 1995. The incidence of circumcision in the United States today is probably even less. Many online polls show an incidence of about 50%. Current data shows that the incidence of circumcision also depends on where you live in the US, with a high of 81% in the Midwest to a low of 36% in the West." Let me provide some more input. As stated earlier I'm cut and my son is not. Some people think that can cause problems with because of visible differences between the parent and child. I found it very easy to handle, even when my son was young and started to notice the difference. Using simple words (don't beat me up for saying this, remember I was talking to a kid that was pretty young, about 5-6 years old) I explained that people used to think that it was a good thing to do but that we have learned more and are smarter now. Then I said something to the effect that I thought it would be better to not make him have to go through the pain of having that bit of skin cut off and asked if he agreed. He responded with resounding agreement. Then I pointed out that in trade for not having that bit of skin cut off all he had to do was make sure that he kept himself clean, and asked him if that was a fair trade. Again I got resounding agreement. I'm sure that someone will suggest that this was a poor way to handle this but my son (now 17) appears to be fairly well adjusted. As far as I know, he is not an axe murdered. At least we haven't found the bodies yet. Edit to add: I think that even in North America it is trending towards more people being un-cut with the knowledge that this is unnecessary. So as we move forward diffrences for those that are uncut in N.A. will be reduced. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I remember when I first used a terminal that would go 300 baud. Boy that was fast compared to 110. The world has turned - now something more than 100 times faster (36k) is considered slow. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

My parents had a lampshade made out of mine. My Rabi had a nice wallet made out of the ones he collected - when he rubbed it the right way, it became a suitcase.

Careful reading of this this document suggests that at least the claim of "cuts's enjoy better sex" is unfounded. http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics%3b103/3/686 "There are anecdotal reports that penile sensation and sexual satisfaction are decreased for circumcised males. Masters and Johnson noted no difference in exteroceptive and light tactile discrimination on the ventral or dorsal surfaces of the glans penis between circumcised and uncircumcised men." I am cut and not happy or un-happy about it. I can't say that it has impacted my life at all. In the 50's, when I was born, it was thought to be the best thing to do for health reasons - so my parents had it done. After all being born in a hospital was a big deal - my generation was the first in my family to do that too! (my father having been born at home was never cut) My son, born in the 80's, is un-cut. Why? Because it was shown to be medically unnecessary. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
