An interesting reference (with questionable authority) on the shake versus stirred controversy. http://itotd.com/index.alt?ArticleID=516 A more scientific approach http://www.medicalpost.com/mpcontent/article.jsp?content=/content/EXTRACT/RAWART/3602/01A.html And of course Yahoo has the right answer http://ask.yahoo.com/20050117.html It's a matter of taste!

The James Bond martini appears in his very first book (by Ian Fleming), Casino Royale. In chapter 7, we read: "A dry martini," he said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet." "Oui, monsieur." "Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon-peel. Got it?" Lillet is a type of Vermouth that you can still find in many stores. Gordon's is a gin. Where most martinis are made with gin, and vodka martinis are just made with vodka, Bond wildly mixes them both up. By shaking it, you make the drink cold, which is key for most vodka drinks to taste well. It also mixes the vodka and gin well, giving it a good texture. The next time you're mixing drinks, try making one shaken and one stirred. See if you can taste the difference "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Seriously people how can you not see that being 'spoken' to at the end of the lesson will make a dramatic difference in these children's behavior. Just reading those words had me shivering in my boots. I... I... could be spoken to.... Oh no..... !!!!!!!! Hard to imagine how big they were before 50% off.

The biggest problem with this question is that it lends credibility to a government that has none. Now don't get me wrong this is not Bush bashing. I contend that the whole US government has lost credibility and will make up "facts" to suit what ever agenda it is supporting at the moment. IanHarrop replied to mdrejhon's topic in Gear and Rigging
Save your re-pack money and make more skydives. As per the information posted above by Sparky point 4(ii) says that your reserve has to be in date according to Canadian rules. You'll be OK -
FOUND: Altimeter at WFFC 05
IanHarrop replied to pacncathyjr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You might want to send the information to Alti-2. They might have the serial number on file from registration sent in by customers. They also have a list of missing devices that includes found altimeters at the bottom. http://www.alti-2.com/stolen.htm "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy -
It's getting hyped on their web pages too. See attached from their site "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Are there any con's to having colour coded lines?
IanHarrop replied to Newbie's topic in Gear and Rigging
more detail: -- Notification concerning Rope Marking issued: April 2002 Tests done by the UIAA Safety Commission and by some rope manufacturers have shown that rope marking with liquids such as those provided by felt-tipped pens can be dangerous, even with those markers, sold specifically for marking ropes. The test results showed a decrease up to approximately 50% of the rope strength, more correctly: of the energy absorption capacity of the rope (expressed by the number of falls in the standard test method in accordance with the European Standard EN 892) Therefore the UIAA Safety Commission warns against marking a rope with any substance that has not been specifically approved by the rope manufacturer of that rope. It is not possible for the UIAA Safety Commission to test all markers that are commercially available and can be used for marking ropes. Furthermore it would be impossible for the UIAA Safety Commission to keep such information up-to-date. In addition, the effect of any rope marker seems to vary with the make of rope. Hence, all the UIAA Safety Commission can do at the moment is to warn mountaineers and climbers. The UIAA Safety Commission will carry out further research into this problem to provide practical advice to climbers. Sterling Rope stands with the UIAA in this stance and therefore recommends that you do not mark your rope with a permanent marker. That said, Pit Shubert, President of the UIAA, has also published this notice: “…A damaged rope by marking is not a big problem, because such a marked rope can not break in practice (only when tested on the test machine according to the standards, UIAA and EN (CEN)), such a marked rope can only break in practice when the two or three centimeters (about one inch), which are marked, are placed over a sharp rock edge when the rope is loaded by a fall. The probability that this will happen is nearly zero…There is only one danger, when during mountain rescue one or two people are lowered down and the rope is running over a sharp rock edge, then the two or three centimeters will run over this edge, and then there is a danger.” So again and as usual, you are the best judge of your own comfort level. If you have been marking your rope for years with a pen and have never had a problem, then use your own judgment to decide if the new UIAA stance is going to alter your opinion. -- "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy -
How about RSS feeds of the forum topics?
IanHarrop replied to KidWicked's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
I think your argument is doomed for reasons that you have stated yourself - The five people that would use it would probably buy Sangiro lots of beer. - Harder to run the ads which help pay the bills. Those two alone doom the idea - user base declines and revenue drops.... oops no more dz.com I think that you might as well get used to the interface as is for now. -
Do you REALLY need stainless steel hardware?
IanHarrop replied to Newbie's topic in Gear and Rigging
Are you suggesting that all those manufacturers of container/harnesses are not using "truth in advertising" when all of their brochures say we have the choice of having Stainless Steel hardware? Isn't it more fun to ridicule those that have made the foolish mistake of not including at least one blank line in their signature until they change it?

Bbbwwwwwwaaaaahahahahaha! ....but seriously everyone is jumping on the IM bandwagon. I think more people are going to be IM'ing rather than talk on cell phones, which inturn will hopefully lower cell phone prices. __________________________________________ ...and maybe, some folks might start driving better, too! Chuck Or make them worst while they play with the keyboards on their wireless notebook computers and/or watch DVDs while driving because they can do that too while their using the computer to "talk" "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I think that should go for child molesters and sexual predators too. J I am much more in favor of never letting child molesters and sexual predators out of jail than murders. Those that commit these crimes are not wired up right and very likely to re-offend. Murderers have a very low rate of re-offending.
