havent followed the posts in a week or two - sorry i misssed on the whole thread ! just wanted to make one point clear - I DEFINaTELY DO NOT ADVOCATE CLEARING A PC IN TOW MANUALLY - i might consider depending on the situasion and altitude - but i sincerely dont think its the way to go (literally )
-
id rather not even try and think about that ! i recently saw a clip of a guy who deployed with an uncocked PC and had the expected PC in tow...he reached back and pulled his pin with his right hand and had a full normal deployment... my question is - if and only if there is enough time to reach back and try to release the Dbag manually - would the bag resistance be enough to deploy your canopy most of the time? ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~

i have put around 100 jumps on a phi now ... have another 2 months to go before my new s3s arrives so ill have to do a few more on it. i think its a good beginner suit, i think it takes alot more effort to fly than other suits belly down, it definately has some advantages having inflation inlets on the back but i suppose that depends what you are looking to do. i tought myself to back fly in the phi and it wasnt that easy because the inlets inflate pretty quickly and if you dont have your arms and legs open at the same time or open your legs with your arms not fully inflated at first it does create a funny wing surface which sends you in even funnier directions. I had trouble finding the right fit (due to them only coming out in standard sizes) and had to mod the booty. I have also had issues with the leg wing inflation in full flight, these two issues are most probably related - i have seen posts of other pilots having the same problem. the materials used and look of the suit is exceptional. if i could choose again i would probably have waited a little and got a s3s sooner. but thats just me. my score ~ if A+ is first in the class (which is what i rate the s3s which i have jumped) it is a B- in my opinion ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~

even though the phi is more an acrobatic suit, it has much bigger wings than the gti, and i was wondering what kind of fall rates people out there were getting. i have 15 jumps on a gti managed a 51mph on the phi i have 20 jumps gotten to 58mph (must admit i still haven't found the sweet spot + im still a total newbie! ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~

out of interest - how much experience do you think you need to try this suit(s3s) ? sure it will be different for all people but what do you think would be objectives you should need to achieve before going for a s3s? fall rates, nr of jumps , different types of jumps... it is a very sketchy type of comparison but I think of it in terms of down sizing a canopy, I know what I need to be able to achieve in certain situation s on my current canopy before I would downsize.. any opinions out there? [if you think its better to start a new post on the subject pls move !) ciao ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~

Grabbing the BOC pouch with the hackey
pierre3636 replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in Safety and Training
very interesting ! don't worry the exact same thing happened to me past Sunday BUT i was in a wing suit! i was lucky in the sense that I started my deployment sequence a little higher than usual - 4k. I waved of from the 2 way, closed my leg wings and reached for my puff so to pitch. I did grab the puff but also a corner of my spandex and as I pulled and released nothing happened and only half my PC was released, not a good place 2 be! Props to GRAVITY GIRL she is right about relaxing in those situations, I took a deep breath and started feeling around until I could get a hand on the piece of PC that was flapping behind me. I did start spiralling towards the ground though cause my body position was off. All and all I was open at 1.7k - taught myself a big lesson about thinking fast but being totally relaxed AND most important I'm taking off the puff and replacing it with something more solid like a PVC pipe or practice golf ball. ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~ -

phi fi fho fum....did 6 jumps on it yesterday...in my also humble opinion which is 20 gti jumps...i liked it alot, felt alot faster than the gti and it took alot more out of me to get it to full flight mode. in saying that it was a new experience to fly with wing tip grippers and i suppose if youre a s3 pilot it will be a piece of cake but it took me 3 jumps to figure out what the right way was to hold them and the wing without busting my tri-ceps. i did find it took me longer to undo the wing zips having to find the gripper first, apply tension and then unzip, i will definitely be adding finger loops to mine, im used to starting the unzip mid deployment so i didnt like having to wait that sec. longer. i would say that its not a beginner suit in the sense that gti would be, i found it had much more range than the gti. quality exceptional. all in all nice one BM - ps . chicks dig it ~ time is ~ time was ~ times past ~
