  1. I'm jumped with Carol about 10 times now and each time it's a blast....she can remember every point, what/where someone was (or wasn't)...unreal....she's a joy to jump with...and if you can keep up ..PARTY with..nobody does it better than the QUEEN!
  2. Welcome to the "dark side"!!! Good forums for info is macforums.com...there are a few stickies in the forums of quick tips, shortcuts,etc.... Widgets are GREAT for the dashboard...apple.com has most of them...so helpful!
  3. I'm born and raised Buffalo!!! I live in VA now, but I go back to my parents all the time. Went to UB for a while too....the DZ is about 30 away, give or take a few. Easy drive!
  4. Yes I read what you were "told", but did you educate yourself on the product and manufacturer prior to ordering? Like I said a simple search yields plenty of stories, experiences and facts about delays and Jav's. That's all I'm saying. Again I'm sorry about the delay your encountering. In the end you will be pleased with your container, it's just taking longer than anticipated. This conversation has run its course. Good luck, I hope it comes in soon.
  5. Listen, I'm sorry your container is past it's arrival date. Really, I can imagine how upsetting it is...BUT had you done a little checking you would have seen this is a very common problem with Sunpath. I've only been in the game 2.5 years and knew that (and saw it) from the get go. Did you know this prior to ordering? If so, then why did you order a Javelin? What makes it so special to make you wait that long, and deal with the possiblities of delays? Side note, regarding the 4 days @ 10 hours..I wasnt replying to you as my original post indicated. Regards to overtime...call them and tell them to work overtime and the price your paying will go up even more I'd assume.
  6. Well it's quite simple and many companies do the same. Working a 40 hours week over 5 days is 8 hour days, correct? Well what's a 4 day week? It's 10 hour days. They are still working the same amount of time in a given week. I find it funny that this thread even exists. I quick search of Javelin on the forums brings up numerous topics and horror stories of late arrivals, delays, miltary orders pushing civilan orders back...it should be expected. It's not fair, or fun, but with Sunpath it seems the norm. I've only been in the sport 2.5 years and that's been the standard.
  7. I saw it yesterday... I enjoyed it a lot. 90 minutes, the story progressed nicely, good sequences. I'd give it a B+ maybe an A.

    Money

Just curious, but why would you accept a job without knowing what the pay rate is? Seems like something you'd discuss in the interview. Regardless, jobs that pay a decent hourly rate are out there you just have to look harded. If your near a mall, go apply at your favoirte stores (plus you get a discount). If you like being outside, apply to landscpaing companys to be a cutter (mowing lawns on a crew). If you like working with food, be a server at a decent chain resturant (Outback, Roadhouse, etc..). Servers there make decent cash. If your DZ isn't the biggest operation and packing won't garnish the funds your after, well...find something else. There's always a better job out there (part time or fulltime) if you look hard enough.
  9. Any pictures and ordering info on the new skysystems stuff? I didn't see anything on their site regarding it. Thanks!
  10. What about the big brother Rubin Studdurd, he was R&B...
  11. Aerodyne looks to be the next closest last I heard.
  12. There's plenty of rigger in the NOVA area, including Jim Crouch, USPA Director of Safety and Training...we have jumpers in your area too...if you need a reference PM and I'll set you up with Jim's email.. John
  13. I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice, comments and suggestions. I'm going to step back a bit and do some more research before I make my decision. I've learned some excellent things about rigs I didn't know, and will now be able to make a more informed decision!
  14. To be honest, part of my intention with this thread was to hopefully get responses like this, from individuals like you. My choice in rig is most certainly not limited to the criteria I posted, but for the poll sake it was enough. I've spoken w/my rigger and others on my DZ. I've tried on what ever is in my sizes and fit. Some rigs I have yet to see in two plus years in the sport (Infinity) but I'd love to. Bill made an excellent observation and comment which I appreciate about the Jav's and the skyhook which I will take under consideration. I've seen first hand 3 skyhook cutaways (not intentional) and about 10 or so non-skyhook equipped cutaways and I was most certainly impressed. Would I consider a rig w/out a skyhook...yes I certainly would... Choosing a container is difficult, I've demoed canopies and that made my choice very easy. Finding a container in a comparable size, holding the canopies I jump is not easy. I've yet to see a Vector (newer model) in m sizes at my DZ. I've not seen a Mirage that big,etc... The average jumper with newer gear is at the 170 or smaller range in canopies. Plus I'm a bigger fella (athletic, 6'1, 210), so harness size comes into play as well.. Thank you to all who posted with great advice, and to those who sent PM's. I appreciate the comments.
  15. No, I haven't. I don't have access to either rig that's relatively new and in my sizes. I've tried on a new Micron that was loaded, but it had a 120 in it. 190 to 120 doesn't sound fun too me. I've tried on new javelins, again not in my size or close to it (canopy size)..both felt great. My first rig has been a Mirage G3, great rig, used...but not sized just right...it was nice but not just right, ya know?
  16. I can't decide now that the skyhook is available on both rigs. So give me your opinion. I like both rigs (looks wise), both offer spacer foam, articulation, stainless, etc....Both have comparable lead times (14+ weeks)...price too is comparable.... So with that, what sets the two apart...the only thing I can think of is magnetic riser covers on the V3.... So which would you choose given all that?? Help me decide!! Thanks.
  17. Dude, your an ANVIL??? HAHAHA NOT!!! You sound like the average jumper...I'm 215 w/out gear....does that qualify me for anvil status? I've never had a problem staying w/the lightweight (like yourself j/k)....get the right RW suit!!!
  18. Your absolutely right....he is probably going to just ask away and see if he could. Hopefully the DZO will say the same thing you just did and it's all a mute point. My whole reason for jumping in this thread is that people won't simply read and answer a question. There's no harm in answering his question on BPA's...IS THERE? I realize your trying to be the mentor, and share experiences which is great..hell I learned a lot by reading your post....but through out that whole post....you never touched the question....WHY? Just frustrating reading thread after thread and most follow the same script....
  19. Dude, thank you, you seemed to get what I was saying. Simply put, someone asks a very specific question and it seems more so lately on this site that people throw out all other thoughts, advice, preferences, experiences except the answer to the question. He didn't really ask what else could go wrong, he asked what the BPA reg was. That was my whole point. If you don't know the answer to the question, why bother tossing your two cents in? I'm going to end my comments on the thread there... But, on a final note, I would like to apologize to AFFI. My tone was a tad out of line. It wasn't meant as a sign of disrespect towards your experience, jump #'s, qualifications, etc...
  20. I have no real feet to stand on in this conversation due my lack of experience, that I understand. But was the OP's point of view as a lurker, or the actual videographer? Also, he simply asked about BPA regulations, you simply spouted off w/your personal opinion and preferences. So what good did you do to answer the the original question? I've only been around 2 years and already have seen things that amaze me and my limited knowledge of the sport. I couldn't imagine nearly half of what you've experienced in your jumps, time so I won't even attempt too.
  21. I read his post as if he were the videographer, not lurker. Maybe I didn't read that correct though. If he's a qualified videographer and the DZ sells video w/AFF 1... why wouldn't it be ok?
  22. I'd take the time and chat with the folks @ Apple. When your shopping on apple.com there's a chat w/apple expert link that comes up. Explain your situation and they will help you. I was in a similar boat. Not flying video for a long time but debating on an IMAC or MacBook Pro. I choose the IMAC because of cost. I got a lot more bang for my buck w/it. I got the 20", w/ 2 gig's of RAM and 250 gig HD (plus used the education discount). I have started shooting w/a DSLR now and having a desktop has been great. I was using a Dell laptop and I'm really glad I did two things. 1. GOT A MAC! 2. Got a desktop Two each their own, but I'm glad I got the mac/desktop combo! Good luck w/your decision.
  23. The site launched over 6 months ago...not so new anymore...but a great site.
