  1. Holy crap! You should sell your gear to me!!! I need a rig.....and yours sounds perfect!!! Wanna sell???
  2. Dude, that's too funny! I started a thread a few months back about how people sraped up cash to jump/buy gear etc....I too have been selling stuff on ebay like a maniac to jump!!!! One step closer with each sale....Congrats!!! Now go jump!!!!
  3. First off, I'm a three jump nobody so take this with a grain of salt...and with that said...When I use to dive train (military) my ankels were too thin for booties and water would get in and slow my finning down. My instructor issued me a velco strap that went around my ankle and tightened the bootie up. This made a world of difference in that arena, and it seems as though it would work for this. I've seen them at dive shops, so I'm sure they could be found. Plus it wouldn't damage you jumpsuit as duct tape might. Just my 2c!
  4. Man, I agree whole hearted! I may not be able to afford to jump until summer time, if not fall or winter, but the DZO at (what I like to call) my home DZ has been great and has given me the oppurtunity to learn to pack and hopefully I'll offset the cost of training with that (not much but as much as I can). All I can say is I've done 3 jumps (2 tandem 1 aff) and I'm absolutily obsessed with the sport. I constantly want to learn more about every aspect of it, but probably the biggest reason I want to be apart of the sport is the people. The people is what (to me) makes this sport so amazing. You go to a DZ and in my very limited experiences everyone is outstanding. You ask one question and you can spend hours talking about it. Everone is so passionate about teaching others, and just having a good time. So for me, that's the numero uno reason why I'm hooked.
  5. Wow! Great responses! I'm learning to pack right now, and hope to do that to offset some of the cost, then it's save save save. I agree that plastic is the devil! Thanks everyone!
  6. This post is for people who (like me) had/have to beg, scrap, save pennies, and basically anything to get trained, and buy gear. My question is this, what did, or are you doing to pay for your training and gear??? Just curious. Thanks
  7. Haven't personally ordered from them, but know of 4 individuals that have and have had nothing but praise and high marks about them. Hope that helps!
  8. There was a thread about posting your Javelin pics, now it's time for your Mirages. Post some pics.....Let's see those babies!!!!
  9. Where did you find that deal at? Cause I'll buy it if you dont! Just kidding! I'd talk to your instructors then decide. Good luck!
  10. I'm no one special in your world, but all I can say is think about what the sport means to you and why you love it so much. You (and everyone else) knows the risks involved. Guess what though...you have an oppurtunity to continue in the sport and learn from what happened. Take advantage of that oppurtunity and embrace it! Not many in this world are capable of doing what you are (jumping), take pride in that, get to the DZ, gear up, ride up, get out, and live on.....
  11. All the time...I have about 4 hours worth of clips from friends jumps, etc...that I watch and disect all the time. And I'm just a newbie!!! I cannot imagine what it will be like when I more experienced!?! Man, I cannot wait!!!
  12. My first two were tandems. 1st Tandem, picture perfect...stand up landing....2nd....can you say off landing!?!?! Clouds moved in under us real quick after exit. We landed about .5 mile off in a muddy field...where we proceeded to butt slide in to a stop. Man it was great!!!
  13. As a fellow newbie , what made you choose an Inifintiy rig? Have you jumped one before or did you base your decision on reviews and other jumpers thoughts? I'm just curious, thanks!
  14. Personally, I would be evaluating how much I wanted to stay with a company that only gave me that option. Are your skills marketable? Can you find work in the CONUS? Do you want to stay with this company to the point you'd move to China for an indefinite amount of time? These are just a few questions I'd ask myself. Personally, I probably wouldn't go. Just my 2c! Good luck with your decision.
  15. Newsstand- great reply.....definitly will take that into consideration. My only issue right now is that I'M GOING NUtS I WANT TO JUMP SO BAD!!!!! To save up to dough will push my into the summer sometime, versus starting in the early spring. But your right the two DZ's I'm deciding between do offer a discount for the entire purchase. Ah....and to think after the "A" all I have to worry about is gear choices and that's a piece of cake right!!!!
  16. Can someone clarify, 8 jumps gets your through AFF, then 17 left until the "A"?
  17. Here's a question. I'm a student who desperatly wants to get his "A" license. Due to monetary reasons, I cannot do it all in a month or so. But making a few jumps each month is more realistic. What would you (anyone) reccomend? Just putting it aside while I save up for the full cost of the license, or jump as I can as long as I stay within the guidelines for progression (one jump per 30 days)? I do realize that I'd be better to jump more frequently, but I expect to be able to jump 4-5 times a month while training. Just looking for some opinions on it. Thanks.
  18. What are the noticeable difference between a 7 cell and 9? As a newbie, is that something to take into consideration on a 1st canopy?
  19. I'll have a Pro-Track so thet will also log my jump stats, so it's not a necessity for the alti. So I'll probably go witth the analog since it's cheaper, thanks!
  20. For a newbie, would you reccomend a basic alti (FT-50/Galazy) or a Neptune style?
  21. Dude! That was sweet! If you don't mind me askiing what's the color combination on your main? Is it navy/gray/white? Looks awesome!
  22. Gotta get me some tunnel time!!! Blue skies!
  23. Thanks for the info. I did not know that changing out the main was so simple, excuse my ignorance (still a rookie). My plan is to do just as ripper, buy my conatiner new, and maybe a new reserve, but the main will be used. Thanks for the great info! Blue skies!
  24. Here's my question with regards to demoing as mentioned above.....(this may be stupid but bare with me)...how do you demo a canopy without a rig of your own? Will DZ's let you borrow rigs for a while? John
