Pollution is a risk to unborn children
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
So good enough is good enough? You can maintain balance with what a factory outputs and not have to live in a grass hut. However, it may mean slight decease in profits. Can't have that now. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Oh yea - I forgot about that as well! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Iran is one country I don't think we should be playing chicken with. The dominos are set up and just waiting for Bush to topple them. We can't handle Iraq as it is, now imagine having to cover Iraq, Iran, Syria and Afghan! I'm just curious how we, as a country, would react if we found N Korea flying drones over Alaska?? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... And when you don't you get a hazmat unit sent to your place of work because the cleaning crew didn't know you could produce chlorine gas! (true story) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

This was in 1990, so I guess so. btw - the stuff at Wal Mart isnt as strong in the chemical needed. You can destroy garbage cans with the stuff at the hardware store. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Times have changed - we had a teacher in HS show us how to blow up a 2 litre bottle using aluminum foil and a solvent found at the hardware store. But then again - things like this didn't happen back then: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-050216school,1,5337047.story?coll=chi-news-hed _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Ah, you won me over with your strong counterpoint. We should just ignore it and move on. I shouldn't care about the generations that will come after me. In fact, we should get rid of the EPA and allow factories and cars to push out as much junk as they want so the factory owners can make more money. If you want something to be an obstacle you will always find an excuse. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I've seen on some boards that you can get a direct URL to a particular post. It could be useful when quoting or pointing to an older thread. In the spell check, is it possible to make the spelling corrections clickable so they get replaced inline? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Isn't is great that we keep cutting pollution standards in this country? Now we are seeing proof that it will directly effect the next generation before they are even born. Great way of looking out for our future. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa003&articleID=00032537-679A-1212-A79A83414B7F0000 Exposure to urban air pollution can affect the chromosomes of a developing fetus, a new study suggests. Babies born to mothers exposed to high levels of urban air pollution appear to have a greater chance of chromosomal abnormalities than those whose mothers breathed cleaner air. Frederica P. Perera of the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health and her colleagues studied 60 infants born in New York City to nonsmoking mothers who were participating in an ongoing study that started in 1998. The team analyzed exposure rates to airborne pollutants known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)--which are present in vehicle exhaust, power plant emissions and tobacco smoke--in three low-income areas. "Although the study was conducted in Manhattan neighborhoods, exhaust pollutants are prevalent in all urban areas, and therefore the study results are relevant to populations in other urban areas," Perera notes. Exposure to urban air pollution can affect the chromosomes of a developing fetus, a new study suggests. "Although the study was conducted in Manhattan neighborhoods, exhaust pollutants are prevalent in all urban areas, and therefore the study results are relevant to populations in other urban areas," Perera notes. The mothers-to-be filled out questionnaires and wore a portable air monitor for 48 hours during their third trimester. After the women gave birth, the scientists analyzed samples of umbilical cord blood and tested for chromosomal abnormalities. The team found that exposure to combustion pollutants was positively linked to chromosomal abnormalities in fetal tissue: newborns in the low-exposure group exhibited 4.7 abnormalities per thousand white blood cells. Babies born to mothers in the highest exposure group had 7.2 abnormalities per thousand cells. "This evidence that air pollutants can alter chromosomes in utero is troubling since other studies have validated this type of genetic alteration as a biomarker of cancer risk," Perera remarks. "While we can't estimate the precise increase in cancer risk, these findings underscore the need for policymakers at the federal, state and local levels to take appropriate steps to protect children from these avoidable exposures." The findings appear in the current issue of the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention. --Sarah Graham _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Explosion 60 miles south of nuke power plant. Some news stations calling it from a missle, others from a dropped fuel tank. When do you convert from whuffo to skydiver
ChasingBlueSky replied to Superman32's topic in The Bonfire
If you have to ask.... From what I went thru and what I witness others going thru...you feel you have to prove you are a jumper to everyone right at the beginning so you can feel accepted at the DZ and to feel special among non-jumpers. Once you start to care more about the skydives and less about titles you will look back and realize that you made the transition without even noticing. However, it's hard not to concentrate on the transition when you are only making a couple jumps a month and you have a lot of free time and daydreams working against you. (which means you are already a jumper ) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Look at that, someone that gets the idea. Besides, do you think Dean can do any worse than his predecessor? I think I heard the DNC lost about 80% of the elections under his not so watchful eye. I can see why the repubs are going to town on the "Dean-isms" since they need something to balance out years of Bush-isms. I'll bet a dollar that Bush still puts his foot in his mouth more often than Dean will in the next four years. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Wow, talk about taking something I said and turning it around and inside out. Where did I say that? I believe I talked about how ironic it was, nothing else. I take no joy or sorrow out of the situation....or anything else. I don't know...would you find it hypocritical that Bush Sr was part of the "just say no" administration and his kid was doing coke? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It is a big deal here in Chicago because of the frequency and smug attitude Keyes had on the news every night. The man is disgusting in his very prejudicial beliefs. The irony is overwhelming. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

see this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1440174;search_string=warcraft;#1440174 btw - I'm on Burning Blade as a lvl 24 Warrior (just found out you level up faster if you logoff while in an Inn - helps if you read the book!). Also - why would you delete a lvl 40 warrior? Pallys own them until lvl 60 when you need to retool and become a tank. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Is it that time of year again? Guess it was time for another one of these threads. You haven't been around the internet much, have you? Right now I am currently playing a game that you had to spend $40 on and pay $15/month to continue playing it. They have some very strick rules and some very subject rules on what they consider "wrong" and they often change from day to day. If you break the rules in the game or on their web forums you get banned. There are no questions asked, it just happens. The moderation in that world makes this site look like pure anarchy. And this site is free unlike that one... unless you make a choice otherwise. So what exactly was it you were complaining about again? Of course, there is the solution of just not posting. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
