I played it a bunch on Sat night - the Onslaught levels are the best! I thought that bringing back Assault was a good idea - and they are fun to play, but the constant changing in the ONS mode is great. Dawn was a good "re-make" of the original, and is better than the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. 28 Days later borrowed heavily from Romero with his social commentary - and then borrowed from Blair Witch for the video feel. The new Dawn is sorely lacking in the social commentary - but I think the director did it to make the movie a bit more timeless...I'm glad he kept some comedy elements (I think it would have been funny if during that time in the mall they showed someone playing the Resident Evil video game, or House of the Dead). The super fast zombies did seem to steal a bit from 28 Days, and did anyone else get a deja-vu feeling of Blair Witch in a certain point of the movie (and how that was some of the most real/scary footage of the entire movie?). The acting and polish on this new version is much better than the others - but I don't think Romero ever cared to much about that. Just look at Day of the Dead. You guys want to see a bad rip off of Romero? Rent Return of the Living Dead 2. For Lou: Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. I own all three on DVD. Evil Dead 2 was a low budget, by higher than the first time budget re-make of Evil Dead by same Sam Raimi crew (yup, the same guy that did Xena, Hercules, Darkman and Spiderman). I always found it interesting that he took the most disturbing moment (the tree) out of the movie and made it more of a comedy horror picture. Roger Nelson used to pull off 1080s with his Velo84 - I think he even came close to a full 4 - 4 1/2 rotations. The swoops were not very long at all when he did those.
