That's not the only place it's been done. ltdiver I've seen that done as well - the starter went out on the engine, and the pilot aske if anyone had a pickup with a tow attachment on the back. It was fun to watch, and it worked. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Fuck you you fucking fucktard! (Sounds better.) We should make up shirts... "Skydive naked you fucking fucktards!" hmmmm.....I don't see this thread unlocked in the very near future. Yea, great movie - I was numb after I watched it. I'm curious to see what he does with Batman! "Batman Begins" will start to lens in Europe very soon, and it has an all star cast _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Who's going to the Skydive Chicago Expo this weekend?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
Glad to hear you are going to make it out Mel! BTW - does anyone know what time it all starts on Sat? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Reserves are very dependable. Is that what you mean? What'a baglander? Sorry - local term - they are the oldtimers at Skydive Chicago, originally from Skydive Sandwich. Just ask Rainbo. Most have been in the sport over 15 years. When I said hand-deployed reserve - I was told there was a handle over your left shoulder that you could grab and toss a PC into the wind to deploy your reserve. I've never seen one, but this is what I was told. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You mean, like, borrowing record amounts to create record debt for our children and their children? Add this: I am seeing more unemployed people coming to my school for re-education after being downsized in the last 4 months than I saw in the previous 4. Also, most college educated individuals that I know have lost more jobs than I care to count - most since 2000 are now earning less as well. But hey, those tax cuts are amazing. Since they are making less means they can save less for retirement - but they can always look forward to Social Security to help them out..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... You sure about that? Do a search on this forum. Do a search on rec.skydiving. This debate has been waged as many times as aad's, rsl's, etc....some share your opinion, others don't. There will never be a definite answer and you will see this discussed by another noob in just a few months. btw - I didn't see jp giving you any attitude - he disagreed with what you had to say, and he happened to be right on. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Come on now. No comparison. That's just silly. I have been told by a few of the Baglanders that there were hand deployed reserves. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

But you admit though that there are bars and restaurants in Chicago that are smoke free, right? As far as "fair" is concerned, you started off this discussion talking about rights, not fair. - Jim So who's rights are right? A right to smoke or a right to healthy lungs. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

With the exception of work, I don't understand why you have any problem avoiding smoke. If you know that a particular establishment tolerates smoking, don't go there. Esentially that rules out the majority of restaurants, bars, etc in Chicago. Wow. that is fair for me and others like me. FWIW - I am the type that doesn't bitch about it. I deal with it, eat my food, have a few beers, etc.... Who says I didn't? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Mexico, Canada, England and Ireland. Does the UP count? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You're kidding, right? If you know that a restaurant, bar, business, private home, etc... allows smoking, then don't go there. What's wrong with that approach? - Jim You are kidding, right? In IL there is ONE town that has outlawed smoking in all public places - and I am never in that town. Outside of that, almost every restaurant and bar in 100 miles of where I live allows smoking. And do you really think smoking areas keep the smoke in their area? Then there are the people that smoke in "no-smoking" areas....what am I supposed to do about that? I even had one person light up a cigarette in my car after I told him that no one ever smokes in my car. At one job it was illegal to smoke in the office building downtown - the owner of the company was a smoker and allowed everyone to smoke in the break room.....a room that had no door on it, in an office that had no filtration unit....I told HR and they just shrugged it off. Luckily I wasn't at that job long. If I can, I do avoid it as much as possible Jimbo - it just isn't as easy as you make it out. Hey, I don't really care if you want to kill yourself and widen the chance of getting cancer. Smoke your ass off....just don't do it around me. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

That sucks - make sure you stretch it out once it starts to heal! I am still trying to get full mobility back in my ankle after my sprain (looked like your foot) from a drunken trip on a roap swing over a river. Gopher holes suck big time! I caught one right in the middle of the main landing area at Rantoul right in front of everyone and twisted my knee. I did a nice face plant and attracted EVERYONES attention. Have you gone to the Dr for it? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

And what about my health rights? I don't take this lightly. I have had Pneumonia 13 times in my life, I tend to get a flare up of Bronchitis almost every year, I get a lung infection almost twice a year outside of that and if I am around smoking for too long I am coughing, hacking and wheezing for days....and it took me YEARS to figure out that it was smoke that did this to me. I grew up in a house that had two smokers in it and it wasn't until I was in a full-time smoke free environment that my lungs started to make a rebound and I haven't had a major lung issue since. Think of the other side of this issue as well. I don't have much of a choice when someone lights up and decides they are too good for the "no-smoking" policy. It happens all the times - most, but not all, smokers are ignorant when it comes to other's perople wishes for a smoke free environment. I'm quite alright with the "law" enforcing rules that protect my health. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Helmets vs Cypres (was: Mid Air 3/20/04)
ChasingBlueSky replied to stateofnature's topic in Safety and Training
If you are hit hard enough with the helmets we use in this sport, you can still have your bell run and have the light go out - or worse. I had a helmet-to-helmet impact when someone hit my burble - I remember pain then the next thing I remember was waking back up in freefall (it was only for a second or two). This person was most likely 4-6 feet above me when this happened - and it also caused muscle damage in my neck and shoulder area. It doesn't take much - and helmets don't always keep you safe. Sorry for the tangent - back to the topic at hand. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Seems the Irish are playing hardball. Good for them. Nothing wrong with that - giving GW a taste of his own medicine. Ireland is a sovereign nation and wants to enforce it's own laws. We would do the same if a leader came over here ready to break our laws. Oh. I'm guessing if GW was a bit more diplomatic his counterparts in Europe would be more welcoming. This is what you get when you piss off the majority of the world. Question: Do you post every news story that you come across? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Training vs. Turn-around times w/ tandems
ChasingBlueSky replied to SkydiveMO's topic in Safety and Training
It also annoys me when I see a TM that won't allow ANY students to touch the toggles. As Chris mentioned - at SDC we consider the two tandems the first two student jumps. Do we do a lot of tandems there? Yup - we have probably more Sigma rigs than anyone else, and we have the TM staff on hand and two great planes. Of all the DZs I've been to, I have yet to see as high of a retention rate as we do. The ones that seem to have the worse are those that don't involve the student into the jump - they are just there for the ride. Does a DZ need to drop the same amount of cash that SDC has? Nope - just turn the tandem ride into a student jump. As a side note - I did my first tandem at SDC and if you watch the video, you can see I had fun, kept alti awareness, pulled, was handed the toggles and asked to practice flare and then turn the canopy until I found the DZ, and helped flare on landing. My second tandem was not there, was in old, crappy gear that hurt, had no plan on what to do on the dive and it wasn't until I was in the airplane and asked the TM what we were going to learn on the jump that he mentioned to try tracking. Whenever I talk about my tandems - I never mention that second jump. It didn't help me at all with getting ready for AFP and I was scared as sh*t to be under canopy on my own because my last TM didn't do anything to help me out with that. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Whys the limit on the 360?
ChasingBlueSky replied to jeremyneas's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yea, they were toggle hooks - but he had them so dialed in you never saw him digging out of the corner. Not sure if you would call them a barrell roll - however the canopy would be lower than him on the rotations. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Give the office a call and they can help you out. Dave and Nanette did the majority of the AFP jumps last year. The other instructors like Rook, Missy and Kirk are top notch as well (I'm certain I missed listing somebody) Manifest can be reached at 815-433-0000 or 800-SkyDive if you are in the area. If you can, come out this weekend to the Safety Expo - it is great for students and experienced jumpers. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... When the extended universe SW books started in the early 90s I was as happy as a geeky college student could be. The Zhan novels with Thrawn were fantastic and had nailed the feel of the original trilogy. The books maintained that feel up till "Truce at Bakura and Crystal Star" when they took a major dump in quality and storytelling. I would read some others from time to time - but I eventually gave up after "Courtship of Leia" and that stupid spin off from the Ninetendo game. I've heard what they done since (killed off Anakin Jr and Chewy) and won't even waste my time. Oh, and the lack of quality as we approached of these books combined with the re-release Special Editions of the first trilogy had me fearing what Lucas was going to do with the next three. Too bad my fears were right. I'm glad he said he will never do the rumored Ep 7-9...I don't think they could ever be as the Zahn novels. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
