  1. That's a lot of adjectives, and seems contradictory. A mild traumatic injury that might be very severe? Sounds like mild is the word that doesn't belong. 2. My opinion is by doing that you are setting yourself up to hyper-extend your neck when you do get a spanker on opening. A good neutral position is probably safer. If you have real concerns maybe some exercises to strengthen neck muscles will be more beneficial. Sorry to digress from original point. No doc, but I have a lifetime of expereience with neck and back injuries, and will second that in spades. You definitely do not want your chin on your chest for a hard opening. It depends on your specific problem, so see your doc. For the record though here is what works very well for me and my condition. I had the C5/C6 fusion/hip-bone-spacer/plate & screws surgery done. With that and other spine injuries, I can take compression much better than a lateral snap (like a whiplash) or twisting. So as soon as I start to feel snatch from deployment I rotate back almost to an upright position. Not too early; gotta wait until you know the canopy is opening. This position means all the forces will be in line with your spine instead of sideways or twisting pressures. Also, I do not look up and watch my canopy open. You definitley do not want your neck craned around during a hard opening. I only look up once I feel it sniveling, or if I feel nothing 2 seconds after throwong out. DISCLAIMER: I offer this only as food for thought. You should chat with the veterans where you jump regularly and your doc before doing anything. Well, not ANYTHING; but you probably know what I mean. 3. You won't find many birds at freefall altitude. As all the mentions above can attest, not a rarity at all under canopy. Most birds have no need to go more than a few hundred feet up, so doing so is a waste of energy. The biggest exception is hunting birds on the prowl. We have tossed bugs out of the plane at full altitude. Wonder how long it took them to get all the way back to the ground? 4. Couple things. I think it depends on how cold your freezer is. We have a 0 degree; and I think most are made to be used not much below freezing. My experience is that plastic breathes more than waxed paper. I believe air can pass thru plastic (albeit slowly) but not thru wax. At any rate, wrapped in waxed paper (which I think is what heavy duty freezer wrap is), and stored at 0, our experience is that you can easily go over a year. A Google search should easily net you the opinions of health/nutrition experts. 5. Thanks Cliffy. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  6. That is incorrect. There is plenty of food for everyone. The challenge is getting everybody on the same page on how to distribute it. (Or even agreeing it should be shared without qualification or reservation). There are resources aplenty for everyone, as long as everyone does not insist on living like royalty. The challenge is that it is not distributed equally; and many would say it is not distributed equitably either. Starvation (like underdevelpment in general) is a process, not a status. 7. Looks like Florida decor. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  8. Didn't he take a controversial stance on that Schaivo brain-dead person issue? Didn't he side with (or maybe even participate in) an end around to keep her alive? That is the only thing that really stands out. That and the fact that when he speaks he sounds like the typical special interest lapdog fast talking double-speak full of shit manipulative superficial politician. 9. Cool; and that would be about the time when things get very difficult (often impossible) unless you're chasing a branch of the family that had some real significance. I do have some documentation on my family, but only back to the mid 1800's. To take it further I would have needed to pry more information from my Grandma before she went senile or I need now to go to the sources (churches, graveyards, and the scariest place of all, . . . government records). We just weren't of much importance. Another aside - Whatever happened to the tradition of taking pictures of people on their deathbed, or even in their coffin. I've found a few like that in our family albums. I'm actually glad I have them, though some are really wierd. They are like cheesily posed wedding pictures; for example old Grandpa Grandmaison laying there pale and gaunt with hours to live and Aunt Lil and Uncle Elmer leaning in for the shot with big smiles. OK 2nd aside; for any other sentimental fools like me who want to leave stuff like that for their kids (yeah they think it's creepy now but someday will thank you), get busy labeling stuff before you too forget who the hell all those people were that would wear a 3 piece suit to a baseball game. 10. I know it's mentioned in lots of places if not this thread specifically; but proving a negative is not possible (other than by intentional inclusion of obviously contradicting assumptions, terms, and definitions; i.e. - a round square). It's nothing against you or your specific ideas, it's just the way logic works. If you make a claim, you need to back it up with evidence that what you claim exists. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  11. A skeptic is open to analysis of new evidence based on observation and experimentation. A true believer (at least as it is used here) is usually adverse to both; and will deny/obfuscate rather than even consider looking at evidence. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  12. My obsevations exactly. All meaningful conversations of the supernatural pretty much end at the request for evidence. Everything after that is obfuscating circular arguements on the part of those that have none. (Evidence that is). I consider myself very open-minded. All I want is some solid evidence. I would really dig, and it would be really cool to be witness to something dramatic and paradigm shifting. (Never mind that said desire is so strong in some that they will bite on some really silly shit). A child's toy wobbling thru the sky and caught by an incredibly shaky camera, the Virgin Mary's image on a grilled cheese sandwich, Uri Geller, Bigfoots that are so obviously a person in a gorilla suit, and the like do not count. Why is it that everybody that meets Bigfoot is either drunk, or has the IQ of a waste paper basket? And you'd think just once they could film him without violently shaking the camera. But I digress. Speaking of which, as an aside, there is a lot of really cool and exciting shit happening in our world in our time. Enough that people should not feel the need to grasp at such strange things. I think the problem is that the science behind the ever-deepening discoveries we see happening today is beyond the reach of most people. For instance, the complexities and ramifications of the unraveling of the genome are too much; so let's see that grilled cheese sandwich again. IMO, you can end all conversations about this kind of stuff by just referring people to Shermer's book Why People Believe Wierd Things. Nobody will be converted because Shermer is of course part of the conspiracy; but at least you can get back to more important things. 13. Been going on way too long to be simple. IMO, it's been going on way too long for the "We were here first" arguement to have any validity. That land has been bloodied, captured, scorched, occupied, etc so many times that who did what to who first is no longer relevant. Pursuing a solution thru such means also guarantees there will never be a solution. I'm thinking the best strategy for the time being is for all parties that do not actually live there to get out and stay out until the locals have settled their little family squabble. 14. Finally, the topics have merged. Two groups with a relatively recent common ancestry insist they are the rightful owners of some promised land. (I consider it relatively recent since they seemed to have take up arms so soon after becoming distinct groups). 15. I'll take Baubles & Bodies for $500 Alex. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  16. Not one of which I am aware. VR/Marg Obviously you eschew research. Pity. http://shopmobile.muchmusic.com/contentdetail.aspx?id=292421 There is most likely a site that can provide one for you; as well as the opportunity to purchase coffee mugs, plaques, welcome mats for the front door, and a boatload of other heraldic baubles and trinkets. There are even scammers that can set you up with a vacation back to the castle your family came from - - despite the fact that very very few families can be proven to have ever lived in a castle. Those companies are one rung above the ones that will put your name on a star for $19.95. 17. Oh for fucks sake.. you mean I am related to you AND Mikee < walks off kicking little rocks and muttering> Well, if you go back far enough we are all related. At some distance (in terms of number of generations) it is pretty meaningless. Also, beware of the enlightening and interesting information available from many ancestry websites. Most of them are peddling generic BS that is little better than a horoscope. Names can get morphed badly during migrations, records for common folk are pretty scarce prior to 1700, and the scammers in that industry know people will be so tickled to find out anything about their ancestors. If the story behind a family is solid, then there should be plenty of documentation. If a person is serious about knowing their family background, demand the documentation. 18. 15 It is written that when Moses came down the mountain his fellow Israelites asked him how he did. Moses replied ,"the good news is I got him down to ten. The bad news is adultery is still in." Thank you. I needed that. Is that a line from the Mel brooks movie? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  19. That is a ridiculously low number; and most likely reflects some bias on how humans "ought" to live. The answer to the original question depends heavily on how the responder believes we "ought" to live, and can therefore not be answered in a perfectly objective manner by any person. One other nitpick. Which natural law is it that says tools and technology are not to be used to improve chances of survival? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. Exactly. Even knowing who said it, it still makes no sense. Can't figure out the point, and why anybody but the person who made the comment should be embarassed. (Because the only thing they have demonstrated is the need to return to Junior High English class and try again). " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  21. I would not love it to be anybody. Since you did not say who it was, I had to guess. My comments on the statement still stand. (And it does read the way Limbaugh speaks). " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. Gotta love The Onion. Straightforward, funny, clearly made points. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  23. That's not a bad idea. Get out of their territory and let them fight to the death once and for all. It worked for Europe; they finally stumbled forward out of the Darkness of dynastic families and Holy Rule and all the BS that goes with it. Give the Middle East a chance and maybe they can get thru this violent phase of their social evolution. The problem is that a few of them have nukes. We'd have to disarm them or they would most likely start some really serious shit and pull us all down the road to a nuclear holocaust. So we get them to cough up their nukes, and promise no intervention by outside parties. We send them to their corners, ring the bell, and they hack at each other mercilessly until they all finally get their fill of death and destruction in the name of God/Allah/Whoever, or one destroys the other. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  24. Same GOD.. Different prophets....sheep herders or goat herders. 1000's of years of warfare based on sheeps versus goats? Almost as bad as grown men arguing Ford versus Chevy. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. Is that a Limbaugh quote? If so, that explains it. It's some sort of facetious or sarcastic statement; with just enough flowery bad grammar to not be able to tell exactly what he is saying. But as an entertainer, he sure is good at getting the huddles masses excited. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
