  1. Do the open range laws cover limited access highways?
  2. Porcupines have backs. We don't ride on porcupines. There must be a god.
  3. About 15 years ago I was at Eloy doing a camp with Craig. In those days Airspeed had the NE corner of the main hangar hived off for themselves. We were sitting there debriefing while the Otters were fueling just outside. I remember being bothered by the fumes but just shrugged it off. On the next jump I was so disoriented under canopy I just couldn't figure out my pattern. It wasn't until I looked for my teammates on the ground that I realised I had landed in the student landing area. The toxic effects took a while to manifest themselves.
  4. Ya, just for the sake of making the Leafs the team with the longest futility record in the league.
  5. Says who? I know several Canadians who own a house in the US. One of our local DZOs bought a house in Arizona City this winter. They have no right to live there so they could become illegal aliens at some time in the future. Would they then lose title to their house?
  6. Meteoroids are usually post mach; they are gravity powered.
  7. Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. -Yogi Berra New York Yankees
  8. Paul, Sometimes the drivel that comes from your keyboard is too much to bear. i cannot believe that you are as uninformed and bigoted as you appear. Martinis with lemon instead of olives are bullshit.
  9. Which ones? Specifically? The ones that pushed to do non-standard work and anyone that gave the go ahead to perform work without standard safety measures in place. Let's examine that idea for a moment. Transocean is the owner of the rig and is responsible for it's safe operation. They not only have a vested interest in doing it safely, but carry none of the financial burden for slowing the process down. The customer (BP) pressures them to cut corners and therefore the customer is responsible. I don't think so. BP is the lease-holder and thus liable for all the damage. Any criminal responsibility however, belongs to the educated and informed operators (TO) who allowed the customer's fiscal concerns to lead them to proceed in a manner they knew to be inappropriate. A similar situation would occur if a dropzone owner pushed his airlift provider to operate in IMC or to fly before an AME (A&P) looked at the plane when the company procedures indicated it was necessary. The DZO might be a dick, but any criminal responsibility falls to the aircraft owner and/or the pilot.
  10. I notice you said coveralls and not jumpsuits. Please tell me they are not in blue mechanics coveralls that say "ART" or "BOB" just below the lapel.
  11. Sorry M. Goose. My earlier post should have said Sigmas are intended to only be flat packed according to UPT. My bad. Bill Both told me that personally.
  12. ADOLPH HITLER-Bavarian Army Twice decorated during WWI.
  13. I have had 7 mals over 2100 tandem jumps. Mostly on SET 400s (Strong) for a variety of reasons. I have had one line-over on an EZ 384. I have had one mal similar to the one you mention on a Set 400. This is probably from slack in the steering lines, possibly being introduced during the cigar roll stage. This is true whether flat or pro packed. Sigmas are intended to only be pro-packed according to UPT. 3 in 75 jumps? Fire the packer.
  14. Very intriguing. Can you provide a bibliography?
  15. Wendy, After an election in Parliamentary systems the PM is still in the driver's seat. If he tells the queen he can maintain the confidence of the house he can proceed. However in this case he would certainly lose the "non-confidence" motion that would be introduced by the opposition. The queen would then ask someone else (the leader of the second largest party usually) to try. The way a hung Parliament functions is generally one of two ways. A coalition can form where members of the smaller parties are given some cabinet seats (remember cabinet ministers are drawn from the elected members), or the governing party can go it alone. In this case the PM must gain the support of other parties to get things done. The tradition in UK is coalition while in Canada it is for minority government. The last three governments in Canada have been minority. If the government loses a money bill, a bill they deem to be a confidence motion, or an opposition raised "non-confidence" motion, the government has fallen. The Queen will ask the leader of another party to try or (usually other than right after the election) call another election. What adds stability is that when one opposition party wants an election (up in the polls) it is often at the expense of the smaller party(ies). At least one party does not want an election unless the governing party is tanking big time and there are gains to be made by all. In UK the position of the third party idiologically between the two main parties would seem to tend towards moderate policy whereas the position of the Bloc Quebecois and the New Democrats in Canada to the left end of the spectrum tends to much more slanted policy. This leads to more elections.
  16. Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave?
  17. He is a prime example of what is wrong with the judiciary in most western countries. The judge has specific duties. When he expands those duties he is just as wrong as a cop delivering a beating in the ally. When a deal is reached in a lawsuit the state should never insist that they remain the arbitrator; that service is not required in this case. Close the book.
  18. Toronto is closer to the equator than large parts of the US
  19. Actually it was spelled out that Ahmed was born in England to immigrant parents. My point is that people bitching about the newcomers is a permanent feature of society. The Poles and Lithuanians that are "stealing" jobs and social benefits today will likely have children that bitch about the immigrants 25 years from now. When "old stock" Albertans (usually 2-3 generations out of eastern Europe) bitch about the immigrants I tell them if my grandfather had had his way their grandfathers wouldn't have been allowed in (bloody wog Catholics).
  20. Very disturbing, yet inevitable. I am surprised this is being introduced for all workers. I would have thought those behind the Security Industrial Complex would have introduced it for all guest workers first, then for all immigrants (then all workers, then all people). The question really becomes what price will you pay to get a grip on immigration. Fences and manpower and racial profiling and shakedowns are not going to do the trick. Security vs freedom once again.
  21. There was a story on CBC today on the British election and the immigration question. The story featured a guy named Ahmed complaining about the Lithuanian immigrants.
  22. Is there a "Latinos for immigration reform" group yet. There has to be Latinos out there who are resentful of those who come in illegally and cause problems for those who came the hard way (or whose parents did). I am sure there are social pressures to remain silent, but until such a movement becomes public I don't see how the federal pols can afford to alienate Latino voters with reforms that have any teeth.
  23. Couldn't possibly be Picard; it's an anglo's turn. Realistically this demonstrates why a facebook advocacy group with 40 000 members is not even worth mentioning.
