  1. So if implementation was practical, then you would be all in favor of GPS tracking of millions of guns? And of having some government agency that sits around and stares at computer screens full of little red dots, 99.9% of which rarely ever move from a fixed location? And of spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a computer system and the manpower to run it, to keep track of all of those little red dots? IF it could be done practically so that bad guys could not disable it without rendering the gun useless I would think it would be a very good idea. It is a good idea for my phone. I could find nothing in the link to indicate that the government would have access to the tracking information any more than they can find my phone. Doesn't mean they can't, it just means they need a warrant. I realise the police no longer need warrants in the US for much, but that is not a weakness in this particular idea. However If my gun was stolen it would be very cool to go to my computer and locate it the moment I realise it is missing.
  2. Earphones are not a product I am likely to chose primarily on price. Makes sense that they chose to pay for improved quality.
  3. Kinda noticed you never once looked downwind to check out your plan if you couldn't make it to a good place while heading towards the DZ. Just saying.
  4. So are all legal gun owners deemed to have a permit in Yellowstone with the new rules in Wyoming? I would think so, but no doubt there will be a fight.
  5. We all want to look good for Jesus! I love it when you're deep inside me, JESUS
  6. Are you sure you have the facts straight? loosening your chest strap will set your handles back just a little if you continue to stay upright. if you lean forward then they will move behind you. Andrea, once your under a good canopy stow your slider past your toggles (dont release your break until after you do this and be careful. I have popped a toggle before pulling my slider down) and stow it behind your head.(i have a removable) i loosen my CS before i release the brakes once that is done i do my breaks.( i also have an extended CS. about 3' long) play around with leaning forward and resting on your now loose CS. It feels funny at first but you get used to it. and no your not going to fall out! as said before it least the canopy fly as intended. I will see you in Fitz if you have any questions!!! I am sure they have their facts straight. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3246379#3246379 I changed my habits after this incident. It took quite a few jumps as old habits die hard, but I do believe you need to finish your canopy check before you loosen your chest strap.
  7. Hi Barry, Moving to Ft. McMoney are you? Fort Mac is a city full of people with money who are looking for a way to spend it. I work up there but fly in and out to Edmonton. Edmonton Skydive Centre is about a 3 hour drive from Ft. Mac on a good day with Eden North closer to 4. We will have a Twin Otter At ESC flying most days in September with it being a bit more spotty in October (OK a lot more spotty). Drop Al or Raina a line before you come and we'll get you sorted with accommodation. We have free camping, a bunkhouse or discounts at a local hotel. Normally BPA is good for visitors, but if you are moving here you will be expected to join CSPA (much cheaper than BPA). You can expect temperatures at altitude to be in the -5 to -15 range in September. We don't lose a lot of days to clouds, but we lose a lot of hours to winds.
  8. In Canada our students need 3 "self-directed" canopy flights with 50metre accuracy for their solo certificate (~10 jumps). I have always interpreted that to mean no radio, but there is nothing in the regs to say that. The ground instructor simply has to have the discipline to keep their mouth shut unless the student's actions are dangerous rather than non accuracy enhancing. Perhaps we need another level of radio (channel 2) where one instructor is just watching the novices for traffic issues. This of course is another staff burden on already overtaxed staff. The truth is I see traffic issues that concern me up to the B level. Well, I see them at all levels, but I want to focus on ignorance based ones rather than carelessness based ones. Two 30 jump novices learning how to fly their new Sabre 2s are just as much an issue as two 15 jump wonders jumping 220's or 190's for the first time.
  9. Those would be the rural Illinois voters, no?
  10. No more than one student per pass/load. Extreme, yes, but it would eliminate the issue. Effectively that would be the same as "Get rid of the turbine and go back to Cessnas." We need to fill our plane like all other businesses.
  11. Reading about the Spaceland accident brings to the fore an issue that has been on my mind a lot since we became a turbine DZ. What can we do, what should we do to keep our students and novices safe. -The first thing we have done is just to emphasize traffic issues more during student training. This is a no brainer, but clearly not enough. -We have also tended to keep them on radio longer. This was hard for me as I have always been in the, "they won't learn until you cut the leash" school, but clearly necessary. -We have separated the landing areas so they do not conflict with the tandems which tend to be in the pattern at the same time. The availability of this varies from DZ to DZ as land may or may not be available. What else can we do? Suggestions:
  12. Does this make it legal for ALL citizens to conceal carry unless prohibited from possessing a gun (felons etc.?) What about minors?
  13. Agreed. The glorification of the genocide chronicled in JOSHUA is horrible. If I was in the book banning business it would top my list.
  14. I voted yes, but just barely. it wasn't that funny.
  15. If the voters approved it, and the voters of the whole state acquiesced, why on earth would the fed stand in the way (other than the tawdry matter of 2 senate seats and 2 extra CoE votes?)
  16. The decision of whether to have an abortion is 100% hers. The courts have made it very clear that it is none of his business. It seems only logical that an expense that is incurred at the behest of one person is not the responsibility of another.
  17. I came across a great example of the lunacy of the drug testing scene recently. I was told that I would be required to provide proof of a "Big Five" urinalysis as well as Alcohol prior to employment. NP I trotted down to my local urinalysis lab and got the test. In Canada the courts have ruled that you can be tested prior to employment and at any time "for cause," but random testing is not on. Our Exxon-Mobil overlords could give a shit about the Supreme Court of Canada so they have decreed that any and all "incidents" will result in a piss test for all participants. Basically if you spill the coffee everyone in the room gets tested. Two pick-up trucks are in the parking lot, one in reverse one in park. The mobile one backs into the parked one. Both drivers go for a piss test and the driver (or should I say occupant of the driver's seat) of the one in park tests positive for THC. When the safety Nazi is informing him of his lifetime ban from the hallowed tar pits of Exxon he asks when he last smoked. The response: "I was at a party last Saturday (while on leave in a different province) and someone passed it to me so I took a hit." My guess is that somewhere between 10 and 25% of our company would fail the test. This may feather in with Exxon-Mobile's anti-drug fanaticism, but as the economy improves skilled help gets harder and harder to find. While I like the fact that virtually no-one is buzzed at work, I wonder whether the huge cost overruns these mega-projects have are contributed to by removing qualified people from the labour pool.
  18. I have never had any problems with removing the gear that people put on chairs or benches so I can sit down.
  19. No, but you are a Theist. You seem to draw this great distinction between fantasies, but you use yours to project the exact presumed superiority as some of the Christians do with theirs on here.
  20. LIFE by Kieth Richards. ONE ON ONE by Peter Mansbridge. A series of interviews from a TV show on CBC. The Aga Khan, The Dalai Lama, Bill Gates, Brian Wilson, Dianna Krall, Taraq Aziz, Karzai, Clinton, Obama, Thatcher, and on and on. An amazing list. On Deck THE LONG ROAD TO FREEDOM -Mandella THE GOD DELUSION- Dawkins THEY FIGHT LIKE SOLDIERS, THEY DIE LIKE CHILDREN- Romeo Dallaire THE CAGED VIRGIN- Ayan Hersey Ali (gotta stop buying books faster than I can read them)
  21. I kinda knew all along that the unrest in the middle east has always been a plot of oil capitalists in Canada. Well, that might be not too far from the truth. The problem is all the oil capitalists where I work (on an Imperial Oil lease) speak with a Texas accent.
  22. I thought he defeated the Saxons. He was a Norman of Frankish descent. Harold was the last Anglo-Saxon king. He was defeated at the Battle of Hastings by WILLIAM of Normandy. Duh! I saw 1066 and didn't read the name.
  23. Your post makes me sad. Once again I am excluded by the theists. Why should I vote Conservative when my atheism precludes me from even appreciating the concept of limited government? Can I be a Liberal or do I have to just admit reality and join the Marxist-Lennonists right away?
  24. I believe the DZ in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico has one. The name of the place is Skydive El Sol. Last I heard the pilot was a guy named Damian Hrdlicka. He is an American with a lot of jump and jump pilot experience. He may be able to help you out.
