  1. You're right someone without VRW should not dictate the competition rules, but we are talking about a BSR; this concerns everyone. John Kallend's head down skills (or lack thereof) were not important when he explained to us why they get out after the belly flyers.
  2. How do you determine if someone is a SLP jumper other than after the fact? What if I enter the pattern with intent to do a 270, screw up my base, and bail into a nice safe 90? Does that mean that the three guys stacked above me are now prohibited from busting their move?
  3. Did you see the video of the thing collapsing? There was a series of small explosions right at the base just as it was collapsing (like there were explosives planted there.)
  4. I was referring to the article John referenced.
  5. That was 16 months ago. I wonder how things are coming.
  6. So the Canadian government released their CO2 reduction targets yesterday. Since the Sierra club is whining louder than the Oil patch I guess they are a bit conservative. CO2 emission levels will be twenty percent lower than today by 2020 but will still not be anywhere near their target under the treaty. The environmentalists keep pointing to Europe as the leader on these things so I want to know how they are doing. If you are outside North America have CO2 emissions begun to decline yet? Has your gov presented a plan yet? Does it have targets in line with Kyoto or something a bit less ambitious? Do they have a snowball's chance in hell of being met? BTW if you want to argue the science of global warming please go to another thread; that's not what this one is about.
  7. I don't think you have been to Skagway. If you're five miles from the airport you are either out to sea or halfway up the Chilcoot trail.
  8. I prepped the interior of a 182 a few years ago. If you are going to do it, you should do it right. The first thing you need to do is double your budget. Now add some more. It takes a fair bit of work to get your surfaces down to aluminium, but If you don't it will cost you a lot more money sooner than you think. The Paint stripper can be bought at LORDCO for about $20.00/gallon. You will need $200.00-$300.00. Get yourself some disposable coveralls and cover up clothes you plan on throwing away afterward. Don't forget to include a head and neck scarf. This stuff burns when it gets on your skin. Kroops work well. Finding containers that will not melt is important and get real bristle brushes- nylon will melt. A supplied breathing apparatus is good, but if you don't have it make sure you get the right cartridges for your mask. The cartridges last about forty-five minutes; if you can smell the stuff at all it is eating your liver, change the cartridges now. If you have a 79-95 degree dry space you paint the product on and leave it for twenty minutes, then wipe. All that glue as well as any old primer will come right off with several iterations. To get the tough stuff in the corners you need a piece of 1/4" plexiglas ground into a scraper. You will need several of these as the product will melt your scraper. Once you have completed the task you need to give the plane to your mechanic to remove any corrosion that has developed over the years. This will take longer than you suspect and cost more than you thought but it has to be done. The paint you use will be expensive because it needs to be as light as it can be. ENDURA is a brand that comes to mind. Have fun PS Make sure you have a running water source right there and have a plan for an emergency shower. I mean it when I say this stuff burns.
  9. When the Enterprise looses warp engines and is chugging along on impulse and they complain that they wont get there for weeks when in reality they wont get there in their lifetimes (except Data).
  10. There have been a few handicam equipped tandems go in. There have always been those who speculate whether or not the handicam was a contributing factor; the speculators have usually been outside video guys. The Guam fatality and one in Tokyo around the same time come to mind. I have never heard any evidence to back up the speculation in either case.
  11. I have had my rigger replace my riser cover velcro on time for the last thousand jumps or so.
  12. The real problem is that the US gov can't control the WWW. There are still lots of Americans using online gambling sites, just no American companies reaping the benefits. The situation with Vietnamese investment in the eighties was similar. When the administration realized that there was plenty of investment capital flowing into Vietnam from Europe, Britain, Canada, etc. and all the ban was doing was denying US companies investment opportunities, they removed the investment ban. Democrats see Cuba in a similar light.
  13. Learn to pack and use it to finance your hobby while you are in school. If you join the military skydiving is heavily subsidized and most units have a parachute demo team you can aim for.
  14. This is not about regulating spending through the parties or the PACs, it is about other groups (i.e. Pro/Anti abortion groups) spending large amounts of unregulated money in support or opposition to a particular candidate while purporting to be addressing a particular issue.
  15. so in order to check an A Certificate parachutist complies with this it must be visually checked according the the Ops Manual. This becomes problematic as novices buy gear that has the control head in the back pad. Do flight line instructors actually require people to partially de-kit so as to check their openers? Clearly the jumpmaster did not in this case, but is it in fact a common practice?
  16. Petroleum products are just one of the major commodity groups traded in $US. The other biggie is narcotics. The US $100.00 bill has long been the standard currency for drug deals. The $1000.00 is traceable and not acceptable. Lately however, there has been a strong trend toward the 500.00 Euro note. At a value equivalent to almost $700.00 US it just makes sense. This is, I suppose, the inevitable result of the US losing the war on drugs. BTW Does anyone know where the Euro symbol key is on a US based keyboard in OS10?
  17. In the immortal words of Bill, "Get a Life!"
  18. So the purpose of your post was to say that Superman is real? Is this news? Hello? What made you think he wasn't?
  19. Friggin' hoser! Actually hoser refers to a gas thief's siphon hose. BTW Larry Walker was a goalie.
  20. Yes it can; it adds drag. This is the be all and end all to the question in my mind.
  21. The Black Keys The Madcaps R.L. Burnside and the North Mississippi Allstars
  22. Bullshit! Motocross keeps kids busy and engaged. How many kids get their life ruined by motocross? If you took that away how many would not find something else constructive and ruin their lives with drugs? Demanding that kids live risk free lives is not the answer. Encouraging them to hang around the DZ may not keep them off drugs either though.
