Its not nice to play with Timmy's emotions skreamer, bringing up old wounds, then playfully putting salt in them. Just not nice

This thread has been becoming really productive. Get well Scott. Give us some real details from your jump if you have the time/will to do so. nic -the remark about the vatican having an opening, very mature.

Foot traffic on the bridge is banned, save for bridge day. Whether you were hallucinating or not... well, thats a whole different bag nic

More speed might imply more lift due to increase of airflow. More lift might mean a slower vertical descent giving it a longer glide. nic

I find it is really important to make sure your parachute has a good moral compass with vents. Sorry

What if someone went in doing a rollover, or tard? They would have an open parachute ON the exit point, intending to jump. Would that be a BASE fatality? I would say yea. I am leaning FOR Ken to be put on the list. nic

I also geared up prior to a flight pre-9-11 on a flight gear on, no problem. Just a few odd glances, but now, i carry on in a suitcase. nite, nic

privste automobilies, i.e... snowmobiles/ATV's. if this is what the NPS approves then noise (decibles) wouldn't (shouldn't) be considered in declining a permit. These vehicles are far more annoying and enviromently destuctive than parachutes. Honestly we need a HUGE name activist to help the movement. The congressman from Colorado is a benifit from within, but we need more. A spokesperson from the media that can convey the desire of jumpers, and the legality of which we are speaking. What if we (BASE jumpers) could get on a positive source of information on a prime time cable TV. What if one of us (i.e. J. Bell, T. Aiello, A. Badenhop, Hookit, or another articulate point of view could get on a show like Larry King, The O'Reiley (sic) Factor, Hardball with Chris Matthews, or whatever. some primetime perspective (with the honorable congressman from Colorado), showing the true desires of us, tax payers, desiring to do what we want... I dont want to step out of BASE ethics, unless I can stretch what is reasonable. I pay my taxes, I love this counrty, and I love freefall. I think none of these is a crime. my .02 nic

Another argument that the NPS has is that bright parachutes opening in the valley may ruin the serenity of the valley. --People driving in the valley look up see parachutes, get distracted and wrap them selves around a sequoia. --Plus canopies opening can be loud and precieved as gunfire. Maybe a complete ban on NPS property is unrealistic for the time being. However maybe a few times a year during tourism lulls, (early spring, late fall) during the week, a probationary permitted jumping day(s) could be well regulated by NPS and backed financially, in part by jumpers in attendance and NPS. Just a thought. nic

Real quick-does anybody know Ralph Hatley's website?
nicrussell replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
I as well have purchased gear from Ralph at his DZ. His inventory probably wouldnt fit in most DZ's hangers. Ralph is also, IMHO, old school. Putting his Inventory on the internet just not his style. Give him a ring, tell him what you want and he'll know. Its toll free isn't it? Nic -
DZ.com Weight Loss Challenge: Week 2 (1/14 - 1/20)
nicrussell replied to mnealtx's topic in The Bonfire
I'm Sure that some of it water weight, but definitely not all is. I am very conscious about drinking lots of water (at least one between every alcoholic one, right? ) and eating healthy. That and hitting the gym 4-6 days a week, is adding up. I actually think I have lost more weight that that, But gained weight in muscle mass. Now its about staying consistent and not giving out after the first two to three weeks. Nic -
DZ.com Weight Loss Challenge: Week 2 (1/14 - 1/20)
nicrussell replied to mnealtx's topic in The Bonfire
Just happened to stumble accross this thread on 1/20 and since I started on the 9th of this month at 179lbs I have gotten to 173. So 6 in a little more time (5 days), but I am very happy with results. Good luck everyone, BTW the Thighmaster is AWESOME. jk Nic -
The Protec Full face ace is a very nice helmet. Protection, sturidiness and adaptability and price (59 bucks!!) Cant find a better deal. The only negative I have about this helmet, Is that my head (do not read ego, actual dimension) is too large for their largest. But most normal people will be able to fit into them very nicely. In fact I'll sell you mine if you want, Unused, still in plastic and box. PM me if interested. I have two. nic

Haha!! I'll try the supermarket aisle later. I use curbs as 'exit' points regularly. And yes with said 'wooshing' sounds. nic

BASE jumping in the BASE Zone - who would've guessed?
nicrussell replied to whatever's topic in Archive
If you are that worried about the new velcro's strength, then why dont you replace it with something you are more comfortable with. Its just velcro. nic -
Although it would have been nice to have a sub 1000 number, it was something I was not racing for. Slow a steady will earn my BASE number when I am ready and that will be a great day. For me at least. Nic Happy New Year everybody. Nurse your hangovers and we will see you at the exit point soon!

I believe he is talking about BASE jumps. His profile lists that has been in sport parachuting for 9 years with about 800 airplane jumps. nic

Rig selection is fine, everyone has different opinions. But to start off on a B seems a little misguided. Maybe you were implying B as Bridge and NOT Building.
-
I'd love to send you a pic, however my cameras were stolen out of the back of my car along with my rig. But with some good luck i retrieved the rig (skydiving infinity, crossfire, PD reserve, and cypres all with about 250 jumps) from a crack slinging pimp, and i mean pimp as in he had a whore at his side, for $180 cash. yes it sucks, but its an entertaining story. But Kmonster, I understand you are in Seattle so You might see it first had. Dexter PMed me so we'all might make a jump or two. or enjoy the rain. nic

Opinions about all the new blood getting into BASE
nicrussell replied to SwoopnHuck's topic in Archive
--To make Bridge day even worse, BASE manufactures condone the “just give it a try and see if you like it” approach by attending Bridge Day and renting gear to people with only 50 skydives. The funny thing is that you have to have the bare minimum requirements to attend their FJC and buy their gear, but you can bypass all that by renting a rig at Bridge Day.-- Perhaps the manufactures provide rental equipment at BD to underqualified jumpers in an attempt to minimize traditional skydiving gear (which is still allowed) that gets jumped during BD. If people are permited to jump with a low skydive number, might as well get them under a modern BASE specific setup rather than their old clapped out CRW (see STUDENT) rig. Just speculation. nic -
there will be a group of us. but not much of a growd pleaser huh? too bad. i want the spectators to see as much as possible. i would use smoke but do not want too much attention. plus pyrotechnics would be not such a great idea in the area i'll be doing this. any other suggestions? 3 lbs huh, seems like a lot of flour. thanks, nic

I am going to do a jump where a few dozen friends will be watching, all of them non jumpers. A remember a few years back someone said if you add baking flour to your pack tray upon opening it will fly out in a semi spectacular way. Then a light white trail of flour will "follow" you to landing. Is this true? and has any of y'all done this. looking for pros/cons and general advice. thank you nic
