The driving along the freeway looking at objects has seriously been a huge detriment to my driving ability. And my X couldnt understand why I would drive 3.5 hours, hike, jump for 3.5 with a 20 second canopy ride. But then again I dont understand why she would drive downtown and go shopping for 6 hours and spend 500 bucks on makeup and a couple of items. Its all personal choices.

Excellent post. Although I believe that Lawyers get people out of legal trouble, police enforce the laws that they need to to 'protect' the masses. Now you bring up a point about BASE killing anyone besides the actual jumper(s). My question is has BASE even injured a bystander? Scratch, concussion? The only thing I can think of would be psychcological effects of seeing someone go in or really hurt themselves. -n

not a flame, but in my group of nonjumping friends there is a huge diversity of ethnic and income backrounds. Most off the non-anglo saxon background put it as "crazy white people" or something along those lines. they are not being racist, but just objervational about risk takers in general. Of course there are many people from all backrounds that take risks for their pleasure, but the caucasian race seems to have a lot of us crazy white people in it.

I'll have to agree with you. Ive had two pairs of hanwags (dont ask) and wearing thick hiking socks made them perfectly comfortable. I put gel inserts in the first pair that made them even a little more comfortable. When I played soccer in HS we used to get our leather cleats soaked and then wore them to break them in, although they were alwayspurchased too small and the water allowed the leather to stretch around our feet. I dont think the hanwags will stretch around your feet. good luck, and as uncomfotable as they are to you a cast and limp will suck a lot more.

i think the point of it was a teaser, meaning more will come for purchase in the fall. just my observations.

I actually think that if a jumper were to be connected to the chair and flared at the right time it COULD be survivable. However Russel's legs have atrophied over time and any impact could prove diasterous. A chair that is constructed specifically for this with air filled tires and substantial shock systems, Russel could get closer to landing on land. This of course would be an elaborate set up which has its own set of evil monkeys to deal with. Progression in his abilities and testing of new technology could lead to an uneventful (meaning no mal's) jump, this process should go into some serious R&D to beconsidered "safe" for Russel. Nic btw.. Russel you kick ass, thank you for letting me be apart of your BASE career.

when you say 'juice' you mean alcohol too right? I know I am not the only one out there who enjoys a nice cold one or three after a day of jumping. nic

I want female LEADERS in BASE to mentor me...and it seems as though there aren't many. How do I find them? Do I need to fly to Houston Zennie? Do you or other females frequent Perrine? Do you know something about Ted that the rest of us dont?

Devil's advocate here. Both parties are pursuing BASE in their own way. Both parties are pushing levels and ways of BASE. Did Russel HAVE to use the wheelchair to BASE, no of course not, he has quite a few without. Was it cool, yes. Was it set up as safe as reasobaly possible, yes, and I was there. I wasnt around for the waterski jump, but unless it was off the rail, I have a hard time saying some is leeching, It didnt hurt the sport or our bridge. They are having a good time, just as Russel is. 2pence, nic

Seems a little niave jimmy. Dont get me wrong, I dont really have an opinion about what your doing, but a blanket I dont thhink she'll get hurt with less than a minute of FF & Canopy time COMBINED. I'd say the jury is still out. -nice seeing you again last monday --Nic

Skydiving without an Altimeter

If you are judging/timing your HP landing based on your altimeter you could be making a huge error for a few reasons. 1. Density altitude changes, 2. Temperature changes, 3. Personal weight changes, etc. When I Perform a hook turn I come in at aroind X altitude and use my eyes and ears to judge how my rotation is coming along, based on this I adjust riser pressure to keep the dive going or back off. I am not a pro, so maybe im am talking out of my ass, but that makes sense to me. BTW I havent used an altimeter in 600ish jumps. in 4.5 years, cant seem to find it. -

[replyMany community members believe that if individuals are willing to put themselves in such extreme danger, they should be made to cover the cost of their rescue. I agree. In a lot of situations tax payer dollars are needed and used to extract lost, injured persons as they need after they get into trouble. If you are doing risky activities, be prepared to pay. Its not the general populations responsibility to cover your ass. IMO. nic

Who are the judges going to be? Is this going to be a sanctioned event? Sounds kinda dicey to me.

Call the proucer back that you spoke with and refer them to the jumpers down in Moab for their Utah day special in a few weeks.
