    IM addict?

http://www.imaddict.com/survey.php a friend sent this to me -- on IM of course... cracked me up.
  4. you know some of that is illegal?
  5. Bill -- is that a trick question? everyone knows it's when the cypres fires
  6. NYC - home of Puck Fair and the Village Idiot -- two must stops on the trip -- Puck fair has a skydiver (Pauly) who bartends, and at times there is a pretty good crowd of jumpers there. If you need to rent gear you'll probably have to rent from Marcus at Pier (the Ranch). Call him ahead of time as his selectin is limited at this time of the year. The Ranch rocks, they'll have two otters. THe only thing you have to worry about is that it is further North, a little colder, and the winds will be a lot funkier than some where else. Cross Keys - skyvan, otter , caravan -- all fast. Square three has demo's (call ahead to reserve one). Will be warmer and typically less turbulent winds (spring in the northeast, gotta love it). Chuck -- you been to the new tiki bar? People definately hanging out later there now. Either place is worth the drive.
  7. ahhhh, nationals 2000....... right on -- geek the camera oops "it's raining freebags in teh landing area"
  8. because adding a flex point in the chest allows more freedom of movement in the harness. The three rings are trying to stay level and if you pressure one side, the harness moves with you to try to maintain that level. You've gotten used to it, as I'm sure others have, I was able to do a direct comparison with the same size canopy with and without rings, and I noticed a difference.
  9. right, but how precise is that alti under canopy when you do those manuvers? And you also have to realize that the canopy will behave differently higher than near landing heights, too. I'm actaully not arguing against anything. I'm saying it's a mechanical device that may or may not work all the time. Relying on it could get you in trouble. I choose not to wear one cause 99% of my jumps are 4way and it gets in the way more than anything -- taking grips and presenting. besides when i did wear one on 4way it was covered by someones hand most of the time. a couple teammates took to wearing theirs on their rigs, when asked if they ever look their response was "nope". i choose not to wear one. you can choose other wise

    Atair Rocks!!!

...if you don't jump an Odyssey and a Stiletto, you must be a fag." .... I thought it was a Sabre 2 now....
  11. as safe as you make them...... there are many out there in the field with many jumps on them.
  12. How long you gonna wait to make a decision, can it steer and land? no -- see ya. a canopy spinning like a mofo -- pretty much going to chop it right away and not look at an alti anyway. There are instances of high speed mals where the time it takes to look at an alti may be precious half seconds you need....
  13. so I have to ask, if you were planning on getting out on the same pass, at teh same altitude, why was the student getting out first seeing as how they normally pull higher?
  14. it's not so much the gators as the land sharks you have to worry about, unless you're a guy.....
  15. Its easier to find A person with infrared when there aren't a bunch of little heat producing objects running around in the swamp!
  16. mine (at about 1.5) opens consistenly on heading. I jumped a smaller (new) one and it opened differently -- twitchier and flared much much different (I liked mine much better). I also jumped a stilleto the same day -- the newer one opened more like the stilleto. Same weekend we also took pictures of opening sequences. Crossfires clearly showed even inflation... the velocity inflated outside in. the stilleto opened about even too, if I remember correctlly (lent the pics out)
  17. Are required for everyone?? not just students?
  18. 4way Bill -- I agree altitude awareness in a skydive is very important, but in 4 way we really don't look.
  19. well, typically in a skydive I dont' have time to look at an alti. second, they are a mechanical device, prone to failure, just like everything else (i have had mine read off by over 1000 feet during a skydive). third - why regulate more than necessary? I probably would wear one for a night jump though. I may be in the minority, but I don't think it's a small minority.
  20. Altimeters are not required in the states anyway -- just recomended. Why a blanket statement saying wear one? I haven't for the last 700 jumps or so.
  21. it was a Z-1 helmet the jumper in question was wearing. why he didn't flip it open is a question only he can answer. an accident is a series of bad decisions executed to perfection.
  22. damn straight ripples on the pond indicated large amounts of wind not to mention the upside down leaves.
  23. don't push the nose in and don't pull the slider out in front, you're causing air to get to the outer cells first by doing that... give that a whirl and see if that helps.
