  1. No need to rub salt in the gaping injury they define as "a scratch, nothing but a flesh wound." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. I've seen RMCP wearing similar ribbons, and others. It's not just a US thing, but I think it started there and it's most followed there. And for the black band worn around a badge, it's meant for LEOs fallen inthe line of duty. Not everyone limits it to that, but what custom is followed 100% properly anywhere? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. You have an answer to any of those questions, or are you comfortable mischaracterizing the OP and leaving? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. Figured everyone would be tired of US-centric threads, so here's some international flavor: Personally, I'm still waiting for him to decide exactly what IS Palestine. West Bank? Gaza? Golan Heights? All three? Who says he should speak for all three, since Gaza is run by Hamas? Or has he gone full Hamas and decided that "Palestine" is all three plus all land currently labelled Israel? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. Remember, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. It merely implies freedom from government-induced consequences. Private bodies are not held to government controls, nor should they be. Our constitution limits the government*; it is not meant to prohibit or require action by private parties. * - At least it was intended that way. Lately it seems to be ignored more than applied. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. Using your logic, OJ was clearly innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. What the hell are you talking about? I offered the two extreme possibilities, then asked if anyone could say for certain what happened because I couldn't, the article didn't, and according to the article, even investigators aren't sure. So other than hating me, failing reading comprehension, and claiming use of logic when no conclusion was offered, what the hell are you talking about? ps - OJ was guilty as hell, but LAPD and the DA made so many mistakes I probably would have had to return a NG verdict, too. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. youtube: Truth About "Assault Weapons" A great video. It explains full vs semi auto, why semi autos may look scary or benign but act the same, then shows how the scary ones (banned by "assault weapons" laws) can be turned into nice looking ones: they're the exact same guns! witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. Only if you state politicians want what's best for them to the point they ignore the solution to a looming financial crisis. If you state that, then I agree with your conclusion but you are prohibited from ever using "for the greater good" and "for the good of the nation" arguments to justify elected officials' actions. You can be obstinate if you like, but I think you see my point. Either way, the fundamentals of jumping apply to your pro and first timer, but are irrelevant to observers. Jumpers seeking a safe and pleasant jump can follow the same ideas for a positive outcome. Trying to apply other topics to jump safety will not turn out so well. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. Whichever is more appropriate. I give very different advice to AFF students than I give to people with 1000 jumps; the audience is different so the advice has to be. So when discussing the finances of balancing the budget, should you take his financial advice or his political advice? ps - poor analogy; both are jumpers discussing jumps, just different competence levels. Better analogy: you've given published advice on jumps to (a) 10,000 jump instructors and (b) farmer and airport property managers. As an AFFer, which is more appropriate to consider during exit? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. Does anyone else remember when Reagan made a similar deal in 1982? The compromise was higher taxes for reduced spending. The higher taxes kicked in immediately. The reduced spending still hasn't happened. So while I agree the only way to balance the budget is to increase income and reduce spending, I highly doubt an agreement to do that would actually result in them doing that. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  11. Absolutely, but since he's given conflicting advice to different groups, which advice would you take; the ideas given to politicians during political crisis or the ideas given to investors during financial meetings? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. Is Buffett a philosopher? Are we going to hear about butterfly dreams next? I only ask because the oracle apparently believes he lives is Norquist's imagination. (afterall, if a position only exists in Grover's dreams, and Warren has espoused such positions, in what reality are we living?) Forbes: Buffett's Billions Can't Buy Him Exemption From His Tax-Averse Past Massive hypocrisy, flip flopping, and lack of logic pointed out, for any who care to read the entire article. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. Despite my very clear answer in the other thread, he obviously doesn't know what an assault weapon is. The military definition includes burst or auto fire which, as you said, requires dealign with NFA hassles. The AWB law defines assault weapons by purely cosmetic features. If you take off something like a bayonet lug, suddenly your AR is NOT an assault weapon. I will never understand why these people call .223 semi-auto black rifles "high power" guns. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. I'd rather go Starship Troopers than Dredd/MegaCityOne's judicial branch, but sometimes the current system is so dysfunctional that you start wondering. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. The problem is that it never sticks it to the rich. They have too many ways to avoid paying and always will. The react and adapt faster than legislators, and have more motivation to win. They can avoid taxable activity, increase deduction to reclassify themselves as a lesser bracket, keep everything in corporate class that receives more favorable treatment in all financial areas, or they can just leave the area. Google British million pound earners and see the UK practical experience (beats theory every time). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. Could be he's a psycho and deserves 25 to life. Or it could be that he asked nicely for them to turn it down, they insulted or threatened him, he took exception, they brandished a knife/gun/other deadly weapon and said they'd use it, and he used his first. Can you say one way or the other? The article doesn't say, and claims the investigators don't know either. And there's always the question or what may have been added to or removed from the "victim" vehicle after leaving the scene but before police arrival. Things to consider. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. (A) The super rich with always make more money. It's what they do, and not because they are smarter or better than the rest. Members of the lucky sperm club have a lifetime membership. (B) No matter what you do with the tax law, business and individuals will always react faster and avoid as much as possible. The ones with more money have more and better accountants. Or, if it get's bad enough in one place, they will relocated to another. Part of being rich/successful is both maximizing profit/assets and minimizing liabilities. So go ahead, jack up the taxes on folks who make more than you. The ones with major bankrolls with either avoid the taxes or reclassify themselves as not taxable, and the only ones you hurt are the small businesses and small entrepreneurs who can't avoid, leave, or pay for more/better CPAs. Congratulations, taxing the "rich" hurts Joe Wanna-be-somebody down the street, and Warren Buffet still pays peanuts. Huzzah. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. So now big shopping days are the same as holidays? What's next, you going to say big jumping days are holidays? Huzzah for safety day, new unofficial holiday. How about big tv watching days? You think the superbowl and awards shows are holidays? Anything else you want to add to the list? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. Well, I was born in the USA and as far as I can tell greed has always been a part of America's values. From Columbus "discovering" America to the settlement of Jamestown, to slavery, to the California gold rush, boom, bust, depression, recession . . . Greed seems to always be a large motivating factor. I don't thinks capitalism works without at least a certain amount of greed. Now, we have an unofficial holiday devoted to it. I dunno. Seems to me like the good professor hit the nail on the head. Except he wasn't talking about greed. The linked article talks about two victims of DWI vehicular assault, an alleged parking lot robbery, and an asshole battering people to get to the front of the line. Wait, that last one does have American values undertones - self defense in the face of assault and douche baggery. Then there's the child neglect. So tell me about how a story of black Friday violence and stupidity fits your version of Tradition American Values. Oh, and while you're at it, find me a country that doesn't have blood on it's hands. If you can't, give up the USA-bashing and give me something uniquely relevant to the US for your diatribe. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Still not sure where you were born or what your citizenship is professor, but you clearly don't have any idea what traditional American values are. Stick to physics, or go back to work on your telepathy WABAK machine. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. This one adds religious fundamentalism/fanaticism to the rampant narcissism and assorted psychoses. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Ah, the joys of unchecked democracy. So what does everyone think of Morsi's taking sweeping new powers as Egyptian president? Deciding that any proclamation of his office is automatically legal and above court review does not bode well for the populace. (based on the riots in Tahrir Square, they seem to agree with me) Arab Spring 2.0 to get rid of the original? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Yep, the writing is atrocious, the metaphors tortured. But what do you think about the TSA? Do you support the use of these scanners at airports? Should we put them at rail depot and ports? Should TSA be interfering in travels on the streets and highways? Should we have them sticking their nose into model rockets at planes next? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. You think if "law enforcement groups including the National District Attorneys' Association and the National Sheriffs' Association organizations objected" to the 4th Amendment, Leahy would strike that down, too? How do you go from championing privacy and civil liberty to THIS? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. Taking knives to a gunfight works for Gurkhas and a few others, not so much for your everyday scumbag or psychopath. Warning shots don't really work for anyone who works for public safety. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
