I thought POTUS could only pardon for federal crimes. Otherwise, it would have to be the governor, right? If it was a federal case, I'm guess unregistered refers to NFA which means it must have been an automatic weapon, a long gun that didn't meet length requirements, or an "other destructive device". Also, since there was no serial, I'm wondering if it was a homemade piece if crap or gun shop screw up. Anyone here think he would pardon someone caught with a machine with the serial obliterated? I'd love to tell you for certain, but I couldn't find an indictment or news article on him before today. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

So, who do you think is ultimatley responcible ?
Kennedy replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
You're sweating the small stuff. The biggest boondoggle of all was the Iraq war, costing thousands of US lives and over a $TRILLION, and based on lies. While misleading the public to lead the country into war is clearly more destructive than criminal actions at individual domestic enforcement actions, I was sticking to violations of or abuse committed by criminal law. Acts like using gas canisters known to start fires; Changing rules of engagement from normal to "shoot on sight if armed"; intentionally aiding and abetting smuggling arms to violent criminal gangs and the cartels. At least Ollie North was dismissed from his post and criminally prosecuted, which is far more than you can say for any of our other examples. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

The buck stops... nowhere. It never reaches anybody's desk, unless it's a buck that POTUS didn't like, and then he'll use the full force of federal everything to throw his target under the bus or into prison. But hey, doing something he likes? Please. No one is going to suffer for this. We still haven't seen any real punishments dished out for Gunwalker. (let's not go to the lack of any repercussions for Waco, Ruby Ridge, or the other great boondoggles in recent history). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Under the privileges and immunities clause Article IV, Section 2, Clause 1 citizens have the right to travel and to freely ingress and egress between the states. This right had been addressed and upheld by many supreme court cases including Corfield v. Coryell, 6 Fed. Cas. 546 (1823) and Paul v. Virginia, 75 U.S. 168 (1869). In exercising that right the citizens do not have to give up their protection against unlawful search and seizure which is what these DHS agents are doing. Of course they would claim that case affects crossing state borders, and their checkpoints are located away from state lines, therefore it is not on point. They'd be full of shit and avoiding the point, but they do that regardless. DHS is not a fan of us plebes using logic or refuting their claims with legal precedent. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I think people can bitch about this or illegal immigration. I don't think they can do both without being hypocrites. You're free to think what you like, but I disagree. Illegal immigration can be addressed in a number of ways without forcing the entire population to forfeit the right to move freely about the country, just like we have to address other crimes without infringing on general pop rights or specific subject rights. You're statement is like saying you can't be against both terrorism and DHS/TSA actions. You certainly can, and I am. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

That is an excellent idea. There are lots of companies that provide world class training. By world class I mean it is to the level of that provided to law enforcement, secret service, and military direct combat units. sidebar: I can say this because those same units have been sent to these companies for training. That does not mean you will shoot like a SEAL for life, but that can be largely attributed to staying current. Just like in jumping, it doesn't matter who trained you, what your license says, or how good you were. If you don't stay on it, don't expect to be one of the best. That's why I laugh at training requirements for ownership or conceal carry permits. What does it matter if they go to a class one time and never shoot again? Does anyone think it'll make a difference years down the road? Back to your post, some absolutely amazing training is available from Front Sight near Vegas, Gunsight in AZ, whatever Blackwater is calling itself this week in NC near Virginia Beach/Norfolk, and others. They all offer training with handguns, shotguns, rifles of various types, and more. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

NRA was founded in New York state by two former Union officers in 1871. Their stated reason for forming the organization was the lack of marksmanship by troops. They decided the purpose of the NRA would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis". In about 1900 they included youth training and college rifle teams. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Yep. And a number of those former fed state and local LEO firearms instructors are NRA instructors. http://le.nra.org/training Plenty of the folks who trained me professionally were certified LEOs, DT trainers, and NRA rated. They're not mutually exclusive. The state level guys were least professional, knowledgable, and capable of teaching students. They were also the only group that didn't include a single NRA rated instructor. The best were local, and every one held NRA certs, among others. Last I heard one of them went federal, but I don't know if he went to federal LEO or to somewhere like FLETC where he trains officers without being one anymore. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

http://freebeacon.com/biden-just-fire-the-shotgun-through-the-door/ Biden wants to use Shotgun to hit it through the door. Now that we're done poking shotgun's psychoses with a stick, let's get back to just how stupid this guy is. I mean did he give Pistorius lessons? This fuckwit provides a never ending supply of asshattery. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I think quality, care, health, and treatment of the animals before reaching a butcher means no respectable butcher would touch them, let alone sell them. Double barrel vs pump action vs semi auto. Do you understand the difference? If not, read or ask. If so, knock off the nonsense. There are a number of factors influencing one person's choice of best tool for home defense. These include, but are not limited to: size of residence, construction of residence, type of residence, number of other residents, relevant laws, disposable income, and so many more. The size of residence includes both square footage and size of rooms hallways and door. The construction of internal walls and floors and ceilings are very important to penetration. Type of residence meaning single detached house on forty acres, single detached row house, townhouse, apartment, etc. Whether anyone else should be there is important, but I don't rank it as high because it's necessary to identify your target before shooting; loved ones can surprise you and appear when you don't expect them. Relevant laws are important because you don't want to save your life just to lose the rest of it to te criminal court system. All of that should be considered when thinking about tools for self defense. I personally like the combination of PolyShok rounds and a pump action shotgun. A lot of that is practical knowledge and personal skills. However I'd certainly never say that should be your only option. Most places I've lived we're small enough that a pistol was my go to choice. The shotgun stayed secure with the wife while I checked things. But then, I had a vest near at hand that had almost as many tools as a patrol officer's duty belt. I like having options. We also rehearsed scenarios of when one, the other, or both of us were home. Response all depends on what stimuli you're presented. Someone waking me up by grabbing me in my bed gets a very different reaction from someone kicking in my front door, which gets a very different reaction than a bump in the night that sets the dog barking. Base on past and present employment, I've shelled out to better prepare myself and my loved ones to deal with a myriad of problems. I could go on, but I don't think you're reading any more or have any real interest in what anyone different from you thinks. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Once again, some fact might help you, quade. First, something like 90% of Secret Service are not Protection. First you have uniformed vs special agents. The agency's mission goes from financial crimes to electronic crimes to protecting a very small number of people. The vast majority are trained only to the level of a law enforcement officer. The small number of special agents assigned to protection are generally recognized as their best. However, I don't know if they ever carry shotguns on duty. Shotguns are generally issued to the uniformed division, and I'd imagine some investigatory field divisions. The protection agents on the other hand carry pistols, carbines, rifles, and subcompact full autos (FN five-seven, sub MP5 and 10, etc). I'm not saying uniform don't carry pistols, they obviously do, and probably some are issued semiauto black rifles. But the ones you are setting on a pedestal are not the ones using the Remington 870. Also, I'm not sure if you're unaware or intentionally obfuscating, the 870 is a pump action. A pump is very different from a double barrel (o/u or side by side). Pumps are much more useful in any shooting scenario. Double barrels are nice in that there are the fewest controls, they're cheapest, and they may be the simplest to learn, but anyone with time and a few extra dollars will choose a pump everytime. A big part of why people are calling Biden an idiot (in this instance) is because he said double barrel and then gave unsafe, unsound, and most likely illegal advice. PS - you've gotten into a nasty habit of passing off your opinion as fact, or at the very least the only acceptable/logical/intelligent conclusion. You're hardly alone in that, but it was a lot more enjoyable when you debated or discussed things rather than piss on others. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You're right. Tilapia instead of Snapper in a restaurant is much worse than the idea that pretty much everyone in Europe who buys processed meat has been eating ex-carthorses from dodgy Romanian abattoirs. What makes subbing horse for cow so much worse than one fish for another? One herbivorous hoofed quadroped for another and all that. What, you don't think international seafood processing is as "dodgy" as red meat packing plants? Hell, for that matter even meat packing in the US and UK is a pretty "dodgy" enterprise. Or do you have a Mr. Ed complex? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

That's nothing. I hope you don't think that the seafood you're eating is actually the name listed on the menu. Google it or check out yesterday's USA Today for a starting point. Tilapia is regularly passed off as red snapper. White tuna is often escolar, aka the ex-lax fish. Basically, if its expensive, odds are good that it's fake. Even worse is anything claiming a point of origin or method of raising/development. By POI I mean "Alaskan wild caught salmon" that's actually Chilean farm raised garbage. With method I meant things like "organic", "free range", and so on. If we can't even get the right animal, does anyone think we're getting naturally raised healthy stock? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Yep, pretty much what I figured as well. What as asshat. Reminded me of the guy who introduced a bill to ban altering digital images and posting them. (I refuse to call it photoshopping and no one gets it when you call it GIMPing). I think that fuckwit was an R, but don't quote me. And Andy, lawrocket, that one was a lawyer too. ps - I left out party affiliation intentionally to discuss Silverstein's stupidity rather than compare R stupidity to D stupidity. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Kennedy replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
You're forgetting some very important facts. The field of psychiatry/psychology does not exist to protect the public welfare. They study and treat the mentally ill. The courts ARE set up to protect the public good (not sayin they always do, but that is their purpose). So if you want to help the ill get better, or at least understand them, see a shrink; MD or PhD. If you want to consider locking them away or taking away their rights, go see a judge and a few JDs. If you want to know what they might do in the future, go invent the WABAK or a Pre-crime division. I am not comfortable with some "professional" deciding on their own that you don't have your rights anymore. I find THIS to be very unsettling. More to the point, have you been able to find any "professionals" who claim they can predict danger or want to be responsible for removing rights or freedom? The only example I can find is the (state variable) short term pysch hold a you know 24, 48, or 72 hour hold for danger to self or others. I fully support that. But tell me, do you know the process for continuing a commitment against the patient's will, or how to go about removing rights? It doesn't begin and end with your "professionals". It involves the courts. As it should. You know, I've read dozens of your posts on this topic, and I'm still not sure what you want to change. You've thrown out fairly vague generalities. What is it you actually want to change? Be as clear and specific as you can, please. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
So dishonesty you don't care about is ok, but when it bothers you, a la explosive model rocket fuel, then it's a problem? Seems to be hypocritical, professor. (Especially when you seem ok with the boom fuel liars telling other lies, but let's not hijack) My favorite food lies involve length of food and weight of prepared food. Anyone serving you a "footlong" is lying to you. Same with using frozen precooked weight for "quarter pounders". It's be one thing if the burger weighed 1/4 pound a room temperature, but like the frozen shrimp example above, it's a ton if ice weight. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Unfortunately, this is not new. I watched an IT guy in line ahead of me get pulled out and told to unlock his laptop, phone, and a bunch of thumbs and a portable drive. He told them where to shove it; trade secrets, sensitive info, etc. They seized everything with a button or battery and basically said "Fuck you, have a nice flight. We'll keep this as long as we care to." This is where TSA scares me. They have no rationale for their actions, break their own rules, and I still haven't heard a good reason for their existence - let alone a good reason for them having authority to search anyone. We all ready know they want to get into trains and buses, and our cars aren't far behind. They think they're above reproach and beyond constitutional restraints, and it's only a matter of time. The agency has no reason to exist, and in DC that equals having no reason to stop reaching and expanding. It's not mission creep; it's mission red-light, green-light. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Check the ATF form every buyer fills out for every purchase at a dealer. ATF 4473. http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf That covers when a person with mental health issues becomes a prohibited person. Adjudicated incompetents and those committed to an institution. Just suffering a mental disorder doesn't automatically remove constitutional rights (no matter how much some think it should). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
I really hate that saying. It's innaccurate and often serves as an excuse. see this article Like the man said, insanity is a legal term. It has no strict medical definition, and no commonly accepted one either. See the DSM. There's no entry for "insanity". Psychopathic, sociopathic, schizophrenic, anti-social personality disorder, depression, and many more are in the book. Insanity, not so much. And FYI, being diagnosed with one of those does not necessarily equate to being legally classified as insane. As to the case of Dorner, he strikes me as amazingly narcissistic, but I think he knows it's wrong and simply doesn't care. He wants to be the good guy, the hero, in his own story. Reality and the perceptions of others is irrelevant, except as they perceive him. (that's my guess anyway) There may be some anti-social traits as well, but you'll need a sit down with some PhDs and MDs to be sure. On the other hand, it would take a judge to determine insanity. If he ever reaches a court, I doubt he'll pull off an insanity defense for two reasons: first, in his manifesto it seems very clear that he knows killing is wrong; he acts like he's been forced into it, but especially the part where he says he'll stop when cleared shows he knows its wrong. Second, he seems so self absorbed that I doubt he'd want an attorney to make the case for it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
