  1. read my lips: no new taxes. oh, sorry, let's try again- read my lips: Lee Progressive Presses Specifically, you might want to look into the Lee Pro 1000 Progressive Press 40 S&W. 2. Easier than candy? That's a new one to me but i'm not surprised. Know who said it? Let's see, candy is sold at the front of just about every store I can think of right now, and though not easy to introduce new ones, selling what we have takes about 30 seconds with cash. Guns? Yeah, riiiiiiiiiight. Licensing, waiting periods, background checks, limit on numbers available, and the list goes on and on. But definitely, guns are much easier to get than candy. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  4. quade, just remember I grew up in suburban NJ about 30 minutes from NYC, and I went to school inside the DC beltway. I know what you're saying. Those friends were definitely rural in the upbringing. But they were given the rifle as their own at that point to carry where they would. The concept were solidly established. [brow-beaten in?] I'm all for the parent making the decision, even if it's to teach that guns are horrible and should all be destroyed. I disagree, but that's their choice. Me, I just hope I can still teach my kids what I want to when I do have some. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. I have friends who received theri first .22 rifle at 12. They're still here, so methinks they had a pretty good grasp on gun safety before then. Just a thought. (edit) oh yeah, and a healthy dose of mortal fear of their father. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. Basically, federal law says you can't manufacture magazines that hold more than ten rounds anymore. I believe you can still sell them to anyone you please. [ps - I know you know it's a magazine, not a clip, but I have to say it] Those magazines are fairly useless, but they can be fun if you have a full auto glock. Now THAT makes for a fun experience at the range. Though I suppose if you ever have to beat someone to death with your firearm, the extra length sticking out of the mag well should come in handy for increased flip speed. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  9. How about "I refuse to check anything unless absolutely necessary," so whether it's in my pocket or my carry on, my zippo flies with me. 10. Yet another subscriber to my favorite Homerism: Alcohol: the cause of and solution to all of life's problems. I hope and pray everyone here knows this is Hank Jr. For you poor unfortunates who not only don't know that, but don't know who he is (yes Dave, there are some out there who don't) he's the guy from Monday Night Football openning scene. 11. I've never specifically kept anything other than some sort of shotgun for my place. Also, I've never really had any use for frangible rounds so I've never seen their down side. It's enough for me to know that I have what I need when I need it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. No No No my friend. It's hers and hers and hers and mine and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and hers and mine and hers and hers. That's how it's supposed to go. (and if not, well I've never had any complaints when it goes like that) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. Yet another reason why it's not a bad idea to condsider frangible rounds if you decide on a handgun or rifle/carbine for home protection. You may have to consider that they pattern differently from your other ammunition, but at home defense distances that is hardly going to make much difference either way. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. It was kind of explained here. OK, single action you have to cock the hammer before it can fire (thumb or racking the slide). Double Action you pull the trigger and it cocks the hammer each and every time, and you can do it again and again. DA/SA just add the ability to cock the hammer with every pull, but the gun functions as single action after the first shot until it is decocked. The thing with glocks and LDAs is that you don't cock the hammer, so they aren't single action, but you can't repeatedly pull the trigger and have it cock the hammer for you. Glocks don't even really have a hammer, they have a striker similar to many rifles. LDAs have a hammer, but you don't cock it. Originanl Paras, like you said, are single action. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Same reason props tend to pull an aircraft to the right or left as the accelerate for take off. Same reason a curve ball curves and a floater "floats" [sink less quickly]. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. For straight up home defense, I still say you can't beat a good old fashioned side by side shotgun. It's simple, powerful, you can store it fully loaded and ready with all springs at rest, and there's not much as scary in life as having those two monstrous holes pointed in your direction. I like on with truly exposed hammers, not just cocking levers. Go with a stock with a nice grip, not monte carlo, and 18 1/2 inches, or better yet about 12-14 inches with some choke [after a BATF license, of course] Now that's a home defense weapon. Or you can go another route: an 870, cut down to 10 inches, in ten gauge with pistol grip only. You can walk through a door holding the thing sideways. Not my personal choice, but I know of one with three crimes halted, two felons captured, and one scumbag down. That's a better record than some cops I know! witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. "The AK 47 is the choice firearm of our enemy. 18. Don't think anyone answered your question, so I'll take it. Wildcatting is basically any activity involving making/designing a new cartridge. Mostly applies to one shooter in a basement somewhere, not Speer or CCI thinking about new possibilities. I don't think it was ever supposed to include anything mass produced. Once it's mass produced, it's not a wildcat anymore. And yes, the .357 Sig is basically a 10mm or .40 SW case necked down to accept a .357 bullet. Why alter the powder? There is already plenty in the case. The cartridge specs rise fantastically when fired in a carbine. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. quade, just wanted to put my last comments in, then it's all yours, and hopefully clear up some things if not agree on them. In the hollywood bank incident, those were AK rilfes in full auto configuration. Those have been regulated/illegal since 1934. The SKS is just a semi auto rifle that happens to accept similar magazines. [for anyone with questions, semi auto means you sqeeze the trigger once and get one bullet; full auto means you sqeeze the trigger and get repeated shots as long as you hold the trigger and don't run out of ammo] Drive-bys are ugly no matter what, but they are generally done with full auto. Irrelevant to the SKS. Just so we're on the same page, the assault weapons ban has nothing to do with full auto firearms. It affects semi auto rifles with certain cosmetic features, like bayonet lugs and pistol grips. That is why you hear gun control adds bemoaning how manufacturers have gone around the ban and made the same gun. They just removed the features and produced the same item. Any rifle on the list is no more powerful than any off the list. [also, as a side note, these are the firearms least likely to be used in crimes, except for firearms over 10lbs] Some will ask what about drive-bys? Again, those are normally done with full auto firearms, not covered by the assault weapons ban because they are already covered. How about this for middle ground. I am not trying to tell you we should have full autos running around the streets. [that is a whole other, much longer discussion] I am just talking about a rifle that looks similar to actual military assault weapons. I'm not asking anyone for full auto shotguns [yes, they make those] or heavy machine guns [though they are fun to shoot]. Those are covered by other federal and state law, and not subject to the assault weapons ban. I'm not going to argue the full auto legislation with you. But the assault weapons ban has nothing to do with full auto. I hope hope I've helped anyone who was unclear about the Assault Weapons ban. If there are any questions, I'd be more than happy to pull a copy of the legislation and go over it with anyone who's interested. quade, do you still feel the ban is necessary? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. I don't believe all the "screw him" showing up. Me, I say leave him to his own devices and let him try to work it out on his own and live with whatever comes of it. If he bitches about it later, then I say "screw him." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. There actually is a US Supreme court case stating that something like just crossing the white lane line once is not sufficient to pull some one over. [looking for my old CCJS330 text book right now] Depending on the reason the officer gives on the stand, a good lawyer can sometimes actually have the whole thing tossed. The process isn't perfect but it is what it is. Get the best damned lawyer you can. Period. Personally, I say let him suck it up and do what he can. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Now that IS ironic! Again I'd like to know more including the locations and what types of businesses they owned. I am not satisfied with small excerpts when we all know there is a much larger story behind it. I am not trusting enough to take excerpts such as these at face value. Who says they were business owners at all? They were people suddenly fearful of possible physical attacks. They had reason to believe danger was coming to them, so they decided to arms themselves. But oh, sorry, you have to wait through the "cooling off" period. What a bunch of crap. So you automatically discount any information related in anyway to the NRA website? Riiiiiiiiiiight. Even I don't ignore things from antigun sites. I read it and then sift through the lobbying and any lies, and see if there is anything worth thinking about. You on the other hand seem to just say, eh, the possibility of learning is not worth the effort, so I'm comfortable with ignorance. Are you feeling the bliss? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. GOOD POINT! Ok I agree. Only a waiting period for first time gun buyers is necessary. It does seem that in a round about way you do agree that a waiting period will prevent a first time buyer from shooting someone in a fit of anger. Is that right? You don't agree. John wasn't stating that a waiting period is right for non gun owners, just that your own reasoning does not support waiting periods for gun owners. And like he said, waiting periods prevent potential victims from arming themselves against threats. Since we all know criminals can acquire weapons illegally, someone please tell me why we are making it harder for law abiding citizens to defend themselves. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. I have to tell you, your posts in this thread have lead me to question you. From not knowing the M9 and how to spell Garand, to your...strange...way of supporting guns, and now this post. You're telling me you were a Marine, but what, you never knew any of them to live off base? And you seem to question every offer from John. That, plus you bash the NRA fairly often for no reason. It makes me wonder. I recall a scenario like John's first example, but from the late nineties. A wife had called the cops and gotten a restraining order and the whole nine yards. Went to a dealer to buy a gun but was told there was a waiting period. The abusive husband called and said he was coming over to kill her. She called the cops and they said they couldn't respond because nothing was happening. The guy broke down the front door [yes, it was locked] and she ran upstairs into the bedroom slammed the door. He broke through the door and went at her. The only reason she's still alive is that she borrowed a gun from a friend. You going to tell me there something she could have done other than shoot the mother fucker? That reminds me of an antigun position that seems to state that a beaten and battered woman giving a description is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining how a scumbag got three half inch holes in him. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. quade, Ive got news for you. just about any firearm with a detachable magazine can accept a "high capacity" magazine. That includes basically every semiautomatic handgun on earth. All you need to make something "high capacity" [I think of it as full capacity, but that's semantics] is make the magazine longer. Probably hundreds of thousands of pre-ban AK type magazines are out there. And making a new one, while illegal, is not all that hard. It's basically just three pieces of sheet metal and a spring. To me, high capacity is a drum magazine [think bad gangster movies - Tommy Gun] or a box magazine [think think really big machine gun with belt fed ammo]. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
