The difference there is simple. Laws agaisnt murder and other 'crimes' punish those who do something wrong. Gun control laws try to use force of law to prevent 'crimes.' Forgive me for a poor explanation then. I was trying to explain why the basis for gun control can't work. It's not a loophole, it's the fifth amendment. In the thirties when gun control really picked up, a law was passed requiring people to register their machine guns [now known as Class III firearms]. According to every politician and congressional record, it was only meant to be enforced against felons. The trouble is the Supreme Court said requiring them to register would be requiring self incrimination. So only law abiding folks were affected by this gun control. It was the start of a seventy year trend as far as I've seen. The only people affected by gun control law are people who obey the laws. That's just the way it is. Every time a person buys a gun from a licensed dealer [that's all the legal ones] the dealer runs an NICS check on them. If the systems turns up a hit, they are refused the sale. If the dealer doesn't run the check or sells anyway, he'll lose his FFL and go out of business, plus face lawsuits and prosecution. as an aside, S 659 / S 1805 would not have prevented a lawsuit against him for breaking the law. Nice! I personally go for the darker color scheme, but whatever floats your boat. AS tot he shorts, well, I've seen worse. One of the sexiest things I've ever seen is the 5'4" bag of gorgeousness pull up next to me at a gas station. She was wearing tevas, a bikini top, and jeans chopped to Daisy Duke length. It was also one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. The roads there were notorious for nasty gravel and fallen stones in some of the curves. Minimum sentences makes sense in some cases. Personally I prefer violent felons get at least a certain amount of time, rather than barter a better deal. Zero Tolerance though, that just goes crazy. "The kids should have to pay a fine or something." What happened to detention? Make the kids come in on Saturday and work around the school if they really screw up. That's why I, and 99% of gun owners out there, are all for strict enforcement of laws against committing crimes with guns. We like Project Exile. We like criminal control. Everything you can do wrong with a gun is already against the law. That's why I look at any new gun control law and ask where will you stop? Enforce laws on the books that punish bad acts. I'm with you on most of that, but how do you think people would react if they had to political speech IDs, or if the press had to be federally licensed and every newspaper had to go through the rigors of the gun industry? [for those who don't know, the FOID is the Firearms Owner IDentification card required by some states simply to own a gun; doesn't even grant carry status] I got that acronym right, didn't I? You and I are on the same page here. We need capable leaders with the flexability to work with kids who really can't operate in society. It's scary when you meet a kid whose only answer to any problem is violence or abuse.
