You can send your kid to the most expensive school in the states, but if the parents don't care and fail to instill the drive in him, what's it matter? Most peope who can afford private schools are either (A) so dedicated to their kid's education that they find the moeny or (B) are driven enough that they instill that in their kids. However, I knew plenty of kids who went to Seton Hall Prep and were the biggest wastes of human space. I only know what happened to two of them in college, but neither graduated. Determination and parental involvement matter far more than the name of the school. However, I'm not going to argue that the public education system isn't broken or that it doesn't fail some children. It is. I'm sorry, I really don't want to laugh at you, but look closely at the statistics you linked to. They are for one week's worth of cimes. That 71% changes you mentioned? That's because "only" eight murders happened that week. For reference, that's a 33% change from last year. Do you think murders will be down 33% from last year for the whole year? Neither do I. Do you still think murders are down 71% in 11 years? I'm also thinking 1993 was a particularly bad year, and so any comparison to that year alone will come out favorably. All good points, but I was more thinking of when judges make law out of thin air. Roe v. Wade comes to mind. Judges deciding that a criminal act by an intermediary party no longer severs the chain of responsibility comes to mind. When your boat only holds a handful of men, and other boats routinely work with and around boats, aren't men of the other boats valid opinions? Example: (platoon is made up of squads) A squad leader gets some good reviews from some of the men in his squad. Other squad leaders, and men of the other squads, all from the same platoon, give less stellar reviews. OK, well I'll play sematics with you. Judges aren't supposed to make the law, they are only supposed to interpret it. Judges make law all the time out of nothing. It's not right, and there's not much you can do other than find a higher judge who disagrees, but it does happen.
