You folks keep missing the point, over and over again, and repeating this tired talking point, over and over again. OK, once again: The problem is not with checking those who were stopped for a legitimate reason. The problem is with stopping people for how they look and no other reason - truthfully in order to check them - even though a plausible premise for the stop may be invented by the LEO in order to "legitimize" the stop & check. That is the essence of what racial profiling is all about. I just discussed this in detail in post #100 above. right... and that can happen today with a multitude of laws already on the books. Your complaint isn't with the law then, (especially since it was modified recently) but with what you believe will be the method of enforcement of that law by some officers with questionable judgement. (at least that's the way I see it) -- Rob

If I'm estimating right, I have enough materials within 400ft of my house (neighbor's unlocked storage sheds) to make enough to fill a 30gal trashcan. And considering the time of the year, buying moderate quantities of fertilizer (couple hundred lbs each) from a few different sources wouldn't raise eyebrows. The tricky part is getting it to detonate which requires a primary. Still not hard to make from hardware store components, but marginally harder than making ANFO. -- Rob

the end of it (quoted above) was words to soften the statement. It was clipped to have full impact. It didn't change the meaning any. At least I don't think so. -- Rob -

yeah... you're right... why bother listening to the ACLU DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE.. a right winger supporting the ACLU????????????? WTF...... next thing you know there will be dogs and cats living together.... on some issues I'm rather liberal. you labeled me. I don't like it (and I disagree). But I'll let it slide. In any case, there's already cooperation between states regarding their DL databases, so we effectively have such a system. The problem is the standards for getting a DL in states like CA where you don't need to show even a poorly forged SS card. -- Rob -
Thanks for a clear definition. Finally. So would you support cops asking crime victims about their immigration status? Suppose a detective is investigating a murder, and is interviewing the victim's family for background information. On your definition, this certainly seems like "contact." Would you be in favor of the detective demanding to see the victim's mother's immigration papers, and detaining her if those papers were not in order? Or suppose it is a rape victim? Do you support the cops detaining the victim if she cannot produce the proper papers? nope. certainly would seem to reduce the reporting of crimes in the illegal's community... oh wait... they're already afraid of the cops and don't report many crimes or talk to police. I see your point. I really do. As I've said elsewhere. Part of the point here is to make residency in the state undesirable for illegals (as subset of which are people who will cooperate with Mexican organized crime). The goal of which would be to reduce the Mex org crime traffic in the area. That may or may not be the result. Is yet to be determined. I've made phone calls to judges and prosecuters informing them that a defendant was an illegal immigrant. The response was always "sorry... nothing we can do". I've been personally effected by illegal immigration and crime associated with some of the immigrants. Maybe that's why I feel the way I do. I get that it sucks for the illegal immigrants that aren't causing problems here. They fix my roof. They build my fence. They do the landscaping in my neighborhood. And the ones that I know that went through the process to get legal are pissed at the ones who aren't. -- Rob

It bugs me when presidents are referred to as Mister in the news. He's not Mr. Obama, his title is President and he should referred to using that title. I don't care who doesn't like him, or who didn't vote for him. The president deserves the respect of the use of the title. Mr or President are ok with me Neither was used for Bush here for most of his terms by those left leaning Did you complain about it then? not here. elsewhere yes. bugged me then too. didn't want to get into a pissing match with Lucky about it. -- Rob

unwad the panties.... "contact" as I understand it in a law enforcement context, is interaction with a person as a part of enforcing the law. walking past someone on the street is not interaction. buying a cup of coffee from a vendor, while interaction, is not interaction as part of enforcing the law. -- Rob

I AM a greedy asswipe. I'd probably donate more throughout the year, but not in proportion to my now larger income. (interest on 8M is a nice chunk of change) -- Rob

Occam's razor would indicate otherwise. I understand it is somewhat more complex than, "They are here illegaly. Send them back." But not much. A national cable company recently put underground cable in my new subdivision. There were fifteen guys digging holes all down the street. I asked one a question. Then another. We finally agreed that none of these guys spoke English; only Spanish. Our unemployment rate is at a remarkable high. Something seems wrong here. I think that we can all agree that the simple solution isn't always the best solution. Almost never is there only one solution to a problem. Shipping them all back from whence they came would cost a pile of money, yes, but I think the bigger problem is the turmoil that would be left behind until all those jobs were filled. Then prices would go up for many things. For instance a local roofing contractor I drink beer with from time to time explained one night that were he to hire guys to work jobs for him he'd have to cover them under his insurance which would cost almost as much as what he would pay them. (assuming they took the contractor rate) Instead, he sub contracts his jobs out to a team and thus off-loads the liability (or a lot of it) to a contractor. The "good" solution is all the illegals register and start paying taxes. That isn't going to happen any time soon, so someone needs to come up with the least sucky solution. -- Rob

QuoteCalifornia could probably balance their budget if the illegals were sent home. Even faster if they paid taxes as well. But that won't happen soon. -- Rob

AZ Immigration Bill Invites Racial Profiling of US Citizens

The last time I renewed my drivers license, the TX DPS office required I show them my social security card. I don't know what the state of AZ considers legal proof of citizenship. (edit: see davjohns post containing text from and summary of the law) -- Rob -

Clipping sentences to change their meaning is so transparently biased it makes the people who post such tripe look like the arrogant asses. I've not seen the full video. have you? can you share your link? -- Rob -
