It is not being enforced. I personally know of people who have been released from police custody in CA who were (and still are not) legal immigrants from MX. I believe anyone incarcerated who has been shown to not be a legal citizen should be handed over to ICE. I know of one such person who was released because ICE didn't show up the day he was released from jail. State law prevented them from holding him past his release date, and ICE not showing up meant they had to release him. I'm still undecided on the issue of "when" to release them to ICE. I hate that while in prison my tax dollars are paying to care for them, but I don't want them just released and not punished for their crime. -- Rob

There's no evidence to support that. It's safe to say that health care reform was far more important to him. I'd say his political position on guns changed, but that was a requirement to election. I've said many times (even here I think) President Obama won't likely attempt anything on the political front wrt guns in his first term. And the DNC would likely reign him in if he were to try something in a second term (should he be elected again). -- Rob

The old weapon registration vs. confiscation argument
rhaig replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
you're saying he played you? Manipulated you into drifting the thread? I don't buy it. I didn't think of Obama at all when I read the OP. First thing that came to mind was a discussion I had the other day with a friend that is getting his FFL. I'm planning on using him for all my mail-order firearms purchases because I know he'll not keep the paperwork around any longer than he's required to. -- Rob -
Not to give any weight to the scare tactics (I never bought into any of them), but his past anti-gun record was pretty clear. -- Rob

Container first. But find out what size of reserve it has in it. Remember that you may have to land under your reserve with no toggle input and downwind to boot. -- Rob

Sold a Marlin 1889 in .38-40, and a Winchester mod 06 pump .22. Going to pick up a PSL-54C (romanian dragunov clone) in 7.62x54r. I'd love a savage .308 for about the same money, but the PSL comes with a scope, and the .308 would cost me 4 times as much to shoot. -- Rob

I've got another 30 or so pocket knives to unload (ebay). Just sold 2 antique rifles today (gunbroker). Going to turn that around and buy a new rifle. -- Rob

I saw a crew in the field Schlitterbahn bought when I was driving past the other day. No telling what their layout plans look like, but they had what looked like survey tools. maybe just site prep, but at least it looks like it's moving forward. -- Rob

I grew up near Wichita, and I say I've got it. So I don't know if it's a KS thing, a midwest thing, or what. But, I don't really give a shit. -- Rob

in my skydiving dreams I'd always end up hitting the ground, then getting up, and looking around all embarrassed like "shit.... I hope nobody saw that?" -- Rob

And who should be apointed to decide how much too much is?
rhaig replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
look. I can take a soft PA like you've been lobbing. but really... it's not a factual argument you're trying to have with me. It's a disagreement of opinion. Your opinion is not always fact. Get over yourself. -- Rob -

I will say this much for Obama. He was capable of thinking on his feet and coming up with a bit of a backpedal. None of that was in a teleprompter. -- Rob -

Changing context also changes meaning. Are you the unfortunate victim of a US education? Now you're implying I'm stupid? Really... you can do better than a veiled PA. I know you can. changing context can change the meaning. It doesn't always change the meaning. In this case, I do not believe it does. You do. We disagree. Get over it. -- Rob -

rhaig replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
look I totally get that you think the meaning context was changed. And maybe some fucknut actually was trying to change the meaning by editing it the way he did. But I still don't think the meaning changed. What was edited, to me, was a backpedal. To you it changed the meaning context and that's fine. I, unlike you, won't pretend to think I know what you "know in your heart". Have you decided if it changed the meaning or the context yet? Or are you backpedaling too now? -- Rob -

wait... so now it changed the context? earlier you said it changed the meaning significantly, but now it only changes the context... so it doesn't change the meaning significantly? Your excuses for bad behavior are getting lamer and lamer. Clearly you know in your heart that it was a hack job to change the meaning (otherwise there was no point in making the hack) but can't bring yourself to admit it. So, All this Outrage Over Arizona's New Law, yet...
rhaig replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
actually the way it's worded, the states have all but a few powers that are granted explicitly to the federal government. Not that the states have powers granted to then by the federal government. -- Rob -
doesn't really even take that. 3 components from wal-mart, and my kitchen. But I wasn't going to give out a cookbook. -- Rob
