  1. then you'll be joining the crusade the change the search warrant laws across the country? -- Rob
  2. I'm thinking there has to be more to blame for these deaths than simply texting-while-walking. If they were pedestrian/vehicle collisions, then either the pedestrian or the vehicle was crossing the street/intersection illegally. If people are jaywalking while texting, are they already being ticketed for the jaywalking? Let's outlaw jaywalking!! oh wait... yeah... more laws will solve this problem. -- Rob
  3. it's currently the law, and as such should be obeyed. If you don't agree with it, there is a legal process to get it changed (or don't you like those laws either??) he wasn't there. They could have found what they suspected he possessed and tied it to him through the search of his residence. the system requires that a judge agree with the request to issue a warrant. If you don't think that is protective enough of individual rights, what would you suggest as an alternative? -- Rob
  4. very true. I have found that most civilian shooters can't hit fuck all past 150yds. (me included) I have noticed that those with a military background are good with iron sights up to 400yds or so. Must be that great military training. Since hunting was always my game, I did not bother with shots over 100yds mostly because I did not want to spend the next 24 hours tromping through the woods trying to find some wounded animal. If I can't knock it down, I was not interested in pulling the trigger. So for most people, any .30 calibre is a good rifle - like you say - the limitation is certainly NOT the weapon or the ammo. I've only practiced out to 100yd, but expect I also couldn't hit much out too much further. I was happy with 3" groups at 100yd with my PSL and my surplus ammo. I'm contemplating upgrading the scope soon, but will more likely spend the money on some training. As you say, people with military training seem to hit targets at 400-ish yards on iron sights. Which means I should be able to use my Russian 4x scope to do the same if I get some decent training and plenty of practice. So why drop a few hundred on a scope when I can drop a few hundred on training and ammo and get the same results. (and the new scope would likely just let me see what I'm missing) I'm planning on attending an appleseed shoot sometime in the near future for some of that training (appleseedinfo.org). I shoot 7.62x54r. It has a trajectory not quite as flat as .308, but makes a good hunting round. I got this rifle because it's cheap to shoot. With shipping I'm getting ammo for about $0.23/rd. The rifle wasn't any cheaper than a nice factory .308 (well, a little, but not much) but I'd be spending a buck a shot on that ammo. -- Rob
  5. you forgot to blame the jingoist bastards in the tea party, Glenn Beck and all the Tenth Amendment kooks... and oh yeah... "America!!! FUCK YEAH!!" -- Rob
  6. Claiming that crime will stop, if you wave your magical wand and sprinkle the 'EVERYONE HAS A GUN' fairy dust everywhere is, as illustrated, a fantasy. how about we enforce the laws we have. And those that choose to have a firearm may have a firearm. (within the limits of the current laws as stated in my first sentence) no preventing law abiding citizens from owning them, no forcing people to own one (even though crime in the "every home must have a gun" city experiments is way below average, I believe that has more to do with the social makeup of the populous not the guns present) -- Rob
  7. what do you call 10000 lawyers in a hole at the bottom of the ocean? -- Rob
  8. complaining about moderator action is against the rules and might get your post deleted without explanation. complaining about the rules has also been determined to be complaining about moderator action. We'll see if this post is deemed any of the above. -- Rob
  9. I don't believe the Libertarian party will take any more seats if Palin is the Rep nominee, but it should let them gain a little more attention. -- Rob
  10. Palin as Rep. candidate in 2012... The best thing that could possibly happen for the Libertarian party. -- Rob
  11. You better hope not.. as much as she hates "socialists" she might just decide to nuke the UK for Christ and then RELOAD for the Frenchies You're giving me a hard-on, and I don't even have a dick! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5Rw_BhjEp0 -- Rob
  12. Nope, just seems to be you. That also seems to be a truism. When people use the term people to describe everyone not present, the usually as just mapping their own opinion upon everyone else in the world. Or at least the ones they don't think they agree with. hey look... someone else who doesn't read. I've stated opposite to how you believe I'm describing myself. Either you think I'm outright lying, or you want to psychoanalyze me and don't care what I actually say. Either way, I don't care what you have to say anymore. any of you. anymore than you care what I say. I used to think it was the stupid PA rules that made everyone so hateful but I'm slowly realizing it's that people here don't actually read posts, they skim them and hit reply without actually absorbing any information. It's the volume. trying to keep up means you skim the posts, and fire off a reply here and there. -- Rob
  13. My clairvoyant skills are a little rusty...got one in mind? yeah, it's called get to know your neighbors. find like minded people in your community. don't alienate yourself and hole-up away from your community. when shit hits the fan, communities need to band together to survive. you've made it clear here you're not a team player. Don't worry, I won't come check on you. Don't want you to shoot me in a paranoid fit to take what you need from me. -- Rob
  14. which is the most likely situation in central TX? 1 - Power outage for less than 48h resulting in lack of water and groceries. 2 - severe storms resulting in extensive flooding and lack of access to city infrastructure as well as a lack of power, water and groceries for 5 or more days 3 - total economic and societal collapse resulting in food riots, lack of all services, pretty much listed in order of liklyhood. somewhere between 1 and 2 is where defense means should be on the list. note that preps for 1 apply to situation 2 and those for 2 apply to 3. That is my point. I suppose I could see a situation where defense means might be higher on the list. But in that case, first on my list would be move to a safer community. You're arguing the same viewpoint as kallend's "I work in inner city Chicago and never needed a gun". bullshit... now you're acting like you didn't read my post before you spat out a reply. if you remember what you've read, I mentioned "get a different community". And "defense means should be acquired". not even close to the professors point of view and comparing me to him is a backhanded personal attack and you know it. I still think that if priority 1 is get a gun to defend yourself, then you need to re-evaluate your current situation, and decide if you can change that situation. Disaster preparedness starts with situational awareness. -- Rob
  15. let's just say that I'd rather have a few hundred bucks in food that I WILL need than a pistol that I might need. If your community won't band together, get a different community. Yeah, you should get means of defense, but to get that first prepares you for stuff less likely. Real example. about 4 months ago we had a power outtage. just a couple of days. not a big deal. But the water pumping station was out and being repaired. there wasn't rioting. Nobody went door to door stealing bottled water. But I had plenty because I was prepared. It was only a day without running water. But it was one of the most likely scenarios and thus one of the first to be prepared for. preparations for the most likely events are most likely on the preps list for the less and least likely events. so not only will they be more likely to be needed, they will help you get to the bottom of your list. Starting with the least likely event or less likely events on your list means the longest time period without good preps for any of the events on the list. somewhere down the list, past "loss of job" and 24hr power outage, but above 3day power outage and flooding, lies where defense means should be acquired. -- Rob
  16. Please re-read Diablo's post #27 response above. re-read. and still stands. people tend to think "well first, I'll get a bunch of guns. then food and water and then self sustaining gear". That's all well and good if you're prepping for total societal breakdown. But if you're prepping for something that is more likely to happen, then the food and water comes in more handy. Unless you intend to be part of the problem... taking what you need by force. build some food/water preps first, then build defense capability for them. It's more likely you'll need the food & water. clearly you didn't understand my point. read my above. as for taking care of my own. prepare for the most common event first. It will likely help you along your preps for the less common events. So now you're backtracking and saying "first"? you'll notice the word "first" in the text you quoted from my earlier post. surely you didn't miss it. (the first line of quoted text) No backtracking here. You just misunderstood me. well, if you intend to be part of the problem, not the solution then get your guns first. [removed nasty remark that in hindsight wasn't called for] -- Rob
  17. Did you click on the San Francisco listing? Quite the selection there... The purpose of this legislation is to make gun ownership as expensive, inconvenient as possible. Just a tiny bit of racism in this. a whopping 4 and if it's to support local businesses then avoid the big chain store. And one is a pawn shop. I've never seen ammo in a pawn shop. so that's 2. hey.. that's plenty right?? -- Rob
  18. almost. well that right there is enough to repeal concealed carry in all 50 states... this place really needs a sarcasm tag. I hadn't read that account Bill... have a link handy? -- Rob
  19. what, is that a special kind of cocktail? take a black russian and toss in some tobasco or something? "black russian gunship" good name for a drink. -- Rob
  20. Have you honestly never notice the how in disasters there is always an element trying to capitalize off the weak, and helpless? Katrina was a huge example of this, but it has happened in every major disaster in history. There is nothing wrong with wanting to protect what you need to survive from those who might try to take it from you. It's being prepared, not paranoid. maybe I was too subtle. when I see discussions about prepping online, it always goes to the guns first. why? why spend money on guns when you have nothing to protect? stocking guns and ammo first may not make you paranoid (but doesn't mean you aren't) but it sure does mean your priorities are out of whack. -- Rob
  21. dunno. I went looking for a magazine fed saiga image to post, but found that instead. -- Rob

  23. why does being prepared for a services outtage mean you have to stockpile weapons? If you believe that the community you live in will ransack your house for your preps, then you need to help them get prepared now while they can, or move to a different community. Stocking food for your family doesn't make you a nutter. Stocking ammo and guns to fend off the attacking hordes makes you paranoid, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. If you want to change the topic of the thread to only those who prepare for service outages, then fine. If you want to limit your preparedness to service-outage situations and ignore other situations, then fine. Not being a smart-ass but, It's going to be fun watching you trying to gather food when your service-outage stash runs out after any situation. Are you any good at trapping? Do you have a good idea of what vegetation is edible and what will kill you? It's only paranoia to those who believe it can't happen to them. I guess, New Orleans was a "paranoid" city. I don't imagine that's much true any more. becoming self sufficient (learning to hunt & trap, learning gathering edibles, learning to grow your own) doesn't necessarily require a huge stock of ammo and guns that would "scare LE". you seemed to imply that a serious prepper would have enough stock of things to scare LE. I don't believe that to be true. preparing for outages of services (including water, groceries, power, natural gas) is "basic preparedness". (and covers outages caused by localized natural disasters) If you want to go beyond that and prepare for an EMP, or breakdown of society, or invasion by a foreign army, or then you start with basic preparedness and tack on the other shit later. -- Rob
