  1. Hi John, I am 82 yrs old. I have travelled in Asia, South America, Europe [ including some eastern European countries ], Mexico, Canada & 44 of the US states. I have never needed a gun, or any other type of weapon, to protect myself. It is clearly phooey! for anyone that looks into it. Jerry Baumchen
  2. Hi Bill, Then why are you quoting from what Pres. Biden said in 2021? Either you are 'focused on the current world' or you are not. You cannot have it both ways. Jerry Baumchen PS) Re: Trump is gone If only.
  3. Hi Bill, IMO the bigger problem is how widespread it is. They see what they want to see. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi Bill, In 1966, the Bureau of Land Management had preliminary drawings of a large pipeline to carry water from the mouth of the Columbia River to southern California. Who knows, they might still have them. Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi Robert, Check your news sources tomorrow & update us. Jerry Baumchen

  9. Hi folks, The 2nd Amendment people are going to love this mod: Handguns converted to high-capacity machine guns fuel deadly violence in Chicago : NPR The firearm used was a Glock 19 handgun that had been converted to an illegal high-capacity machine gun with a device known as an auto sear, a square device about the size of a thumbnail. It's known on the street as a "switch" that turns the gun from a semi-automatic to an automatic weapon. Jerry Baumchen

  11. Hi folks, On the surface, it would look like this idiot has not forgotten Trump: ‘Where is Nancy?’: Pelosi home invader was searching for speaker - POLITICO And, of course this other idiot is causing even more problems: ‘Raise the challenge’: Eastman exhorts poll watchers to build a record - POLITICO If they do not find any errors, will they just make some up? IMO the short-term future for this country is not looking so good. Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi Bill, IMO that is part of the solution. One other part is 'education' for men. Vasectomies work really well. Ask me how I know. Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi folks, Herein lies the problem: Aastha Arora: Where is India's billionth baby now? - BBC News As Pogo said, 'I have seen the enemy & he are us.' Jerry Baumchen
  14. 15. Hi mbohu, Once you finish it, how about telling us what you think of it? Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hi Wendy, That reminds me of a story that I read back in 1963. About 1961-1962, a Brit was driving his Rolls-Royce in France when he suffered a broken axle. He called back to Rolls & told them about his predicament. The next day a fellow showed up, put on some overalls, got out his tools & a new axle. A few hours later, the Brit was back on the road again. It was all fixed and no charges to the owner. After he returned home, he wrote a letter to Rolls thanking them about their tremendous service in a foreign country. Rolls wrote back that no Rolls-Royce in any part of the world had ever experienced a broken axle. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Joe, You are in the ball park. In this book, the author's say that the life-span of Earth is 12 billion years and that we have used up 4 1/2 billion of those years: The Life and Death of Planet Earth: How the New Science of Astrobiology Charts the Ultimate Fate of Our World: Ward, Peter: 9780805075120: Amazon.com: Books I found this book to be a very interesting read; it is not a dry, scientific tome. Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi mbohu, One of the best posts ever on this subject. Bravo!!!! Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi Bill, And, THAT is why I say, 'Wherever you are, just do a 360* turn & see all of the stuff that is a product of oil.' IMO it is a frightening experiment. Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi Ken, I agree. Some of us have been talking about this for a very long time: The Limits to Growth - Club of Rome Just as a gut guess, I think we need to reduce the world population to about 1/3 of what it is today. I'm thinking that is about the number for continued sustainability. YMMV. I do think you would like this book: The Long Emergency - Wikipedia I consider it a very fascinating read. Jerry Baumchen PS) As I read all of these posts & the one Winsor posted the other day, I think we can all agree that the long-term future is not going to be pretty. PPS) I agree, escaping from this planet to somewhere else to live is a pipe-dream. It is a nice concept, but ultimately, one has to face reality.
  21. Hi John, Thanks for that; I had not heard of it. Goes along with Hitler wanting Paris to be destroyed as they retreated. Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi lippy, 100% correct. I did say that this is a 'hint of what is to come.' That is the essence of that sentence, just as you say, 'how people reacted to the TP shortage and the levels of generosity that we may expect to be prevalent when oil comes into short supply.' Jerry Baumchen
  23. Hi Winsor, I could not agree more. This something I spend a fair amount of time thinking about; even though, it will not effect me. My grandchildren will most likely experience the effects of your scenario. For additional info, I have often suggested reading The Long Emergency: The Long Emergency - Wikipedia I do not agree completely with James Kunstler; but, I do agree with a lot of what he writes in his book. I found it to be a very interesting book. Jerry Baumchen PS) The toilet paper shortage of two yrs ago was just a hint of what is to come. PPS) And, I have often told people to just take a 360* look around you, no matter where you are at. Just see what all comes from fossil fuels; just about everything.
  24. Hi Robert, Also, let us not forget this oldie but goodie: Arbeit macht frei - Wikipedia Jerry Baumchen
  25. Hi Big, And, I'm thinking a whole lot nicer. Jerry Baumchen
