  1. Hi winsor, Re: it told me everything I needed to know about her By that measure, we should judge you by what you did in the back seat of your dad's car when you were 17; right? People mature & change; at least, that is how I understand it. Jerry Baumchen
  2. Hi folks, Today, Joe Biden said: "America is the only country in the world founded on an idea that all people are created equal, deserves to be treated equally throughout their lives," . . . "We've never fully lived up to that but we've never ever walked way from it." On the other hand: , , , on Monday [ DonaldTrump] took to social media to attack writer E. Jean Carroll and others, including judges in his cases. . . "Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country” On Memorial Day, Biden recognizes son, war dead in Arlington National Cemetery (msn.com) The choice is very easy. 3. Hi Hissone, From the D-Day landings to the liberation of Paris, 2/3 of the dead were French civilians. In the Jan '45 fire-bombing of Tokyo, 100,000 Japanese civilians died. Would you consider those efforts a 'success?' War is hell and people die. I don't like it anymore than you do. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi Wendy, You are so correct. In 2008, I absolutely did not want Hillary to get the nomination; which IMO she thought she deserved. After she became Sec of State, and worked her butt off in that job, I changed my mind. She would have made a damn good POTUS IMO. Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi Phil, Re: To some extent, "what can they do". There are times in one's life in which they must stand up for what they really believe, even to their own detriment. Dietrich Bonhoeffer - Wikipedia And: The Nazi's first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me. Rev. Martin Niemoeller Jerry Baumchen
  6. Hi Ken, On that, I must disagree with you. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Wendy, One of my best friends is a member of the GOP. However, he does say that if Trump gets the nomination, he will resign from the party. As for the 'same brush:' I will NOT vote for any member of the GOP until they disavow Trump. Jerry Baumchen
  8. Hi Ken, I have had an iMac and an iPhone. I doubt that I will ever own another Apple product. They are not for me. Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi Robert, I had one go by my house yesterday. They are very strange looking; but, maybe they will grow on me. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Bill, This 80+ yr old considers himself healthy; at least, that is what my doctor says at my annual physical. The intelligent part, well I'll let others ponder that. Jerry Baumchen
  11. Hi folks, Since this will be all over the news for quite some time, might as well have it here. It if was not so stupid, it would be hilarious: Trump demands drug test for Biden Donald Trump demands drug test for President Biden ahead of first debate (thehill.com) I think Joe should demand a mental health test for Trumpy. 12. Hi Rob, Good to have you back. It looks like you are making up for lost time. Jerry Baumchen Another old, grey-haired Master Rigger
  13. Hi Ken, Rob emailed back to me; here is some of it: I have not been able to access www.dropzone.com since they introduced a new log-in security .... Oh! And I am still working 4 days per week at the bus company. The rest of the email was some stuff between Rob & me. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Nigel, That is a broad brush that you are using. Both of my children are married & both spouses have had full-time jobs thru-out the marriages. They each have one child. Both of my grandchildren are exceptional; I may be biased but here are the facts: - my 19 yr old grandson has made the Dean's List both semesters for his first yr of college. - my 10 yr old granddaughter was just in a reading & comprehension test with other 4th graders, 5th graders & 6th graders; she came in 2nd of all of them. Both, to me, seem to be very well adjusted & on track to be successful in life. Time will tell. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi Ken, If he had any decency, he would resign. Sigh, me thinks I ask too much. Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hi 17, I've been thinking the same thing. I'll send him an email & see what he says. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Mark, Agree 100%. About 30 yrs ago, I bought a well-worn Vector II Tandem rig for resale purposes. I sent it back to UPT for some harness work. IMO the work that they did was quite cheap [ for the amount of the work ] and you could not tell it had been repaired once they finished with it. Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi folks, I think this belongs here; back to the Dark Ages we go: he told a college graduating class that one of the "most important titles" a woman can hold is "homemaker." NFL's Harrison Butker is slammed for speech on women, abortion : NPR Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi folks, And, then there is this: Summer of 2023 was hottest in 2,000 years, study finds (msn.com) Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi folks, the project would add 150 “high-wage” jobs. Daimler picks Portland for $40 million electric truck engineering site, new training facility - oregonlive.com Should be more than one good engineering jobs with this announcement. Back in the mid-60's [ while in college ], I worked part-time for the previous owners, in the test lab. Really liked that job. Jerry Baumchen
  21. Hi folks, An interesting comment from the net: Look, not to cast aspersions on mothers on this, their (our) holy day but: Harder than previous generations?! I’d say tell that to your great-grandma, who was feeding eight kids she didn’t especially want, plus their dad, three times a day without a refrigerator or a dishwasher or the right to vote, but you can’t. She’s finally getting some rest because she’s dead! Half of U.S. women say they were lied to about motherhood, new research shows - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi John, Both my folks had 7 siblings [ 8 kids in each family ]. I had 43 first cousins with 14 younger than me. Most of my first cousins are also now dead. Times indeed do change, Jerry Baumchen PS) Out of those 43, one had an Associates Degree, one had a Bachelor's degree [ me ], one had a Master's degree & one became a medical doctor. In my family, on both sides, the ticket to success was getting a union job; or marrying a guy who was in a union.

  24. Hi Keith, This is going the wrong way: Mario was born in Wichita, Kan., to Jose and Petra Ayala. He had 19 siblings and was the second-youngest of the family. Mario Ayala Obituary (03/14/1955 - 06/03/2023) - Troutdale, OR - The Oregonian (oregonlive.com) Jerry Baumchen
