  1. Hi Keith, Times change. As I said, I had the cite on the wall of my office. Come 1 Oct it will be 25 yrs since I retired from working as a gov't civilian employee. Jerry Baumchen PS) I was up in Duluth, MN for a project. This company had most of their sales with DOD. When it got close to lunch time, they sort of hesitated, hummed, hawwed, etc. Then they asked if I would like to go to lunch. They said that the DOD guys would not even accept a free cup of coffee.
  2. Hi Keith, Re: It would have been career/contract suicide to accept/offer a dinner to a government employee (COTR). Maybe in the military side of the gov't. In the civilian side, it is quite normal. When I was working I had the cite on the wall of my office. Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi folks, Orange melon => convicted felon. I just like the sound of that. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi Bill, In 1964, I joined the Portland Fire Bureau. There were no female firefighters then. In the fire house, we could not talk about politics, religion or women. While we have 'some' Trump supporters here in Oregon; I estimate them at about 25% of the voting public. IMO it was the GOP that made politics too divisive. Jerry Baumchen PS) Good post; should get people thinking. PPS) You got a phone number for the woman who said, "some sexual harassment would be appreciated about now."
  5. Hi Jim, I have never understood the rationale for John's double RSL idea. I'm sure he had one, but I still do not know it. But, like the PCJr, New Coke & the Edsel, it is now ( for the most part ) on the ash heap of history. * Jerry Baumchen * The French one, using two '9' pins seemed to work OK. Usually more parts => more problems.
  6. Hi Keith, I have always wondered about this. It is one of those: We've always done it this way. Total waste, Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Wendy, And, just how do you know there is no one there? Jerry Baumchen
  8. Hi Ken, And, Alex Jones is still out there spouting his BS. What a world, Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi tk, Some Oregon GOP thoughts: [ Current ] US Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer [ GOP – Oregon ], however, didn’t want to talk about the conviction when asked to comment Thursday. Republican Air Force veteran Monique DeSpain, who will face [ Current US Rep - Dem – Oregon ] Val Hoyle in the fall election, did not respond to a request for comment. [ Current ] Republican U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz, who represents Eastern Oregon in Congress, also did not respond to a request for comment. [ Current US Rep - Dem – Oregon ] Andrea Salinas will face businessman Mike Erickson [ GOP candidate ] . . . said he was shocked by the verdict and said he believes that politics played a role in the legal process. U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer doesn’t want to talk about Donald Trump conviction (msn.com) I guess if you keep your head in the sand, it will all go away. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Joe, The one & only 'moderate republican' that I know says he will resign from the GOP if they nominate Trump. Other than him, where are they? * Jerry Baumchen * I was not referring to here on dz,com.
  11. Hi Robert, In the Nixon-Frost interviews, Nixon actually said that if the POTUS does it, it is not illegal. Shucks, that has not seemed to work for the MAGA Mouth. Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi John, In 1974, I was a member of the GOP. Today, I am no longer a member of the GOP. Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi folks, Sounds good to me: actor George Takei . . , “We should start referring to him as 34 instead of 45.” Hollywood stars celebrate Trump guilty verdict in New York hush money trial: 'Tears of joy' (thehill.com) Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Joe, Not a scintilla of decency in any of them in any leadership position. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi Keith, See how easy it is for us to agree? Re: 'an example.' I'm all for that. Usually, I would not agree to someone being made an example; IMO this was wrong: Eddie Slovik - Wikipedia I will make an exception for Trump; the worst of the worst. Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hi Nigel, FIFY: “shameful day for the GOP in American history”. And: “a very good day in American history”. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Nigel, Re: There isn’t an option to vote no. One can always write-in someone. Re: voting for Biden gives him more of a mandate While I respect anyone's right to vote as they want, to me a Biden mandate is far, far better than Trump. No matter how you slice it. To me, voting is almost always the choosing of the lesser of the two evils. However, I have not seen Joe Biden ever doing something that I would consider a mandate. In US politics, a mandate usually comes with a very lop-sided win; I doubt that this election will be anything like that. VOTE FOR BIDEN & SAVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!! Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi folks, Another one who has taken a career hit for supporting Trump: Jenna Ellis, an ex-attorney for former President Trump, has agreed to have her law license suspended for three years Former Donald Trump attorney has Colorado law license suspended for attempting to overturn 2020 election results (thehill.com) No tears from me. Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi winsor, I realize that is an opinion of yours. I disagree with it. I consider Joe Biden a truly decent person. That is my opinion. Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi winsor, Re: it told me everything I needed to know about her By that measure, we should judge you by what you did in the back seat of your dad's car when you were 17; right? People mature & change; at least, that is how I understand it. Jerry Baumchen
  21. Hi folks, Today, Joe Biden said: "America is the only country in the world founded on an idea that all people are created equal, deserves to be treated equally throughout their lives," . . . "We've never fully lived up to that but we've never ever walked way from it." On the other hand: , , , on Monday [ DonaldTrump] took to social media to attack writer E. Jean Carroll and others, including judges in his cases. . . "Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country” On Memorial Day, Biden recognizes son, war dead in Arlington National Cemetery (msn.com) The choice is very easy. Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi Hissone, From the D-Day landings to the liberation of Paris, 2/3 of the dead were French civilians. In the Jan '45 fire-bombing of Tokyo, 100,000 Japanese civilians died. Would you consider those efforts a 'success?' War is hell and people die. I don't like it anymore than you do. Jerry Baumchen
