  1. Biggest patch I've raked was to put up an Army tent for Elk hunting. Maybe I didn't have the right rake but my impression was an entire forest would take a while.
  2. Okay, so I suck at hurricanes. Maybe I can be in charge of those Haboob things, that sounds fun.
  3. We are six pages into the "Who will replace Biden" thread and our best suggestions are below. 9 names. Two were meant as a joke, three ain't ever happening, and Bill won't man up. That leaves Newsome, Moore, and Shapiro. Right. Amy Klobuchar William von Novak Gavin Newsome Wes Moore Joe Manchin Michelle Obama Josh Shapiro Adam Kinzinger Liz Cheney
  4. Too bad it didn't swing up and hit the Dominican Republic. Clorox makes bleach there, that'd knock it out.
  5. Not even 100 years ago, that was. Those who enjoy quoting Santayana on the subject of history ought probably to restrain themselves to quoting Yogi Berra.
  6. Jerry, Again, we are, as ever, on the same team. Monday morning changed things: the horror of another Trump Presidency was magnified many times over. That means that unknown solutions with unknown effects need a lot more examination. Had the USSC denied the expansive immunity Trump asked for much less given him much more than he wanted we might easily be happy with last weeks positions. Now we cannot. Biden bowing out is not necessarily the best solution now. Attributed, possibly falsely, to John Maynard Keynes: when the facts change, I change my mind...." That's what I was gifted with the obscene USSC decision. So I changed my mind.
  7. Jerry, I don't think you achieved anything more than being a check mark in one of three columns on a very low level staffers computer. Maybe I'm dead wrong and overly deluded. I hope so.
  8. That's the problem. I get the angst but there needs to be a bit more nuance in the thinking, I think. I asked because I was certain there wouldn't be much more than "resign now please for the good of the country" because that's all you get for time with those things. I see the problem as more difficult and very much requiring more flexibility than a single solution offers. But how do you tell the switchboard operator that the President needs to put a very unusual action plan into play that won't include his having a second term?
  9. And then later Trump was. Ah, life in the Zorb Ball.
  10. I can't improve if you don't make suggestions.
  11. I shoot for just Phil to understand them and for Ken to be irritated by them. Of course everyone craves a "like" from Skydekker and I'm no different. You might want to lower the bar a few notches. Simpler that way.
  12. Out of curiosity what message are you folks leaving? What are you suggesting Biden do?
  13. But he may also get away with packing the Supreme Court, the 5th District, and any other court that needs it. He can sick the FBI on Trump, and why not that's been the years long accusation let's make it true, and on and on. As long as he isn't being nominated he's free to run. With Merchan now neutered I fail to see what else might work, with a degree of comfort, to keep Trump from being elected. That is such a worse case scenario post immunity decision that it's time for desperate measures.
  14. I understand that as someone with kids and grandkids your concern timeline might differ from mine. And while I do appreciate your frustration, you are not alone.
  15. Well, the idea that there is still time for letter writing and intense deploring seems worn out to me. The Mandarins need to see that only using the SC decision in icky, never before considered ways, and doing it like right now has possibilities. Swords need to be fallen on, heroes need to ride through the darkness. If they do not anyone who thinks Trump won't is a damn fool.
  16. And tell them what? That I think Biden is a namby panby who will fill his depends before saying shit even with a mouth full? If they can't sort it out now without help we are fucked. The more I think about it the more I'm of the mind to go back to my 2016 game plan of not caring. I can take care of me and mine, my staff and my jumpers. Probably I'll pay less taxes and have less regulatory hassle.
  17. Indeed. Unless our wishful thinkers get it in mind that there are no practical limits on Presidential power anymore the game is up. Trumps dynasty will continue until there is another coup. As I see it, only Biden can fix this but he'll need to get dirty hands and quit believing what is no longer true. If he won't step away from the nomination then, yes, he should resign. Maybe we'll get lucky and Kamala will do what is right. It isn't Sunday anymore, the facts have changed.
  18. Now that Merchan is tossing in the towel, unless there really is a "Dark Brandon" who will do what's right I, and many, many like me, will do what we did after 2016 and say fuck it.
  19. The church is always there to give the autocrat legitimacy and, actually, to make it happen in the first place. As long as we get more God they’re happy and the autocrat couldn’t care any less.
  20. A theocracy, unless Biden does the right thing.
  21. Better would be a march on Washington demanding that Biden not accept the nomination so he can spend the next 4 months test driving our new autocracy.
  22. Bribing officials is now legal, don't you know. Give him a big, new, coal mine for his vote or in the interest of national security defer all of his taxes. Now it isn't about process it's all about imagination.
  23. You’re putting lipstick on a pig. This morning you woke up to day one of America being an autocracy. From my perch the only way back starts with Biden refusing the nomination and using his new powers to keep Trump in a can. Were I him, now, I’d also demand Kamala’s resignation and put a good Dem in that chair and give her the AG slot with orders to make shit happen and fast. Or go home.
  24. Given that at best I'll get a green card and a taco truck that's not bad thinking.
