That's where we continue to not think beyond current definitions. Could be that there is a way to get out without being dead. Imagine a civilization orders of magnitude more advanced than ours that has the ability to separate consciousness from their corporeal selves. Ridiculous, right? But we can do it now. We can, instead of our absurd space programs that waste money putting people in orbit, send speaking imagery of ourselves to millions of star systems for cheap and with the enormous savings be aggressively exploring our own solar system for proof that the common chemistry we believe exists in the universe really is likely to produce life.
