Heading to Elsinore tomorrow...will Airweenie make an appearance or not?
Kris replied to Michele's topic in The Bonfire
I wish I was but I'm stuck here in OK with a cold bug and nasty weather. Get in a great jump for me, Michele! Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™ -
Did you hear about this guy killing himself in a chatroom?

Troll. If not, at 68 jumps I wouldn't be bashing something you don't know much about. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™ -

Because I'm sick with the nastiest head-cold on the planet. I look like an extra from the movie "Outbreak". I didn't know the human body could produce that much mucus. Yech. I blame it on Jessica's parrot that nipped me last weekend. Phree probably told Dante the parrot to do it. It probably wasn't really a parrot. It was the Outbreak Lassa-Fever monkey in a feather suit. Kinky...but wrong nonetheless. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Let me clarify, I do use my alti in freefall, but I was referring to once my canopy is open. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Like you even have to ask, Jack. I am so there. At Quincy 2K there was a group organizing no-jumpsuit anvil-ways. We need to bring that back to Rantoul. We should get a base locked in and see how many others we can get in on it as whackers and such. We'll call it a sonic formation load. Ahem. See my post before this one. As a beginning student just getting the sight picture, yeah, I'll agree with that. Honestly, since jump 50 or 60 I only check it to see what I opened at maybe once out of every 10 jumps. Usually, I don't look at mine under canopy though. If I'm taking up a load of IAD students I usually don't wear an alti anyway. I'll look at the alti in the plane or on the student if I need to know where I'm at. Quite honestly, I would be surprised if you could find a student with less than 5-6 jumps that would remember to even look at their alti in that situation, much less notice something wrong with the top-skin of their canopy. I have had a student come up to me after their fifth jump to ask what color canopy they had jumped as they could not even remember that. That little incident prompted a 15-minute brief from me on actually looking at the canopy while doing a controllability check on opening. Students are entirely too unpredicatable, even with hours of focused training, to guess how they will respond in the air. I've had people who aced my FJC and all the ground prep absolutely make my stomach turn once they've left the step. I've also been surprised by the ones that seemed a little confused (okay, like a box of rocks but not bad enough to hold back) but passable in class when they ace the actual event with a perfect arch, including a double thumbs-up or a wave, after letting go of the strut. Then how can you say: "I do believe that the USPA has some of the more strict standards in the world though"? Are you not basing any of your arguments off of facts? I would hope you would do some research before making blanket statements such as that. You state one thing then back up two steps and retract it. You know...help has to be wanted, and with your holier-than-thou condescending attitude towards others I can see why you are having a tough time getting your message across. Sigh...here we go again. This is one of the misconceptions that really grates on me. The Stiletto got the nickname "Spinetto" because at the time of its release nobody knew that they had to, or how to, fly the opening on a loaded elliptical high-performance canopy. Any current HP canopy (or any other canopy for that matter) has a chance of spinning up if you deploy with one side of the harness loaded more than the other. I have over 150 jumps on my Stiletto loaded at close to 1.4:1 and have never had a chronic line twist problem. The 2-3 that I have had were minor and the canopy flew flat & level while I kicked out. These were more than likely caused by packing than anything else as I concentrate on the horizon during opening and use my hips to fly the opening. My canopy consistantly opens within 10-20 degrees of my intended heading. Now, as for whether someone should be jumping a Stiletto at 60 jumps, we are in agreement. A good starter canopy would be a Sabre, Sabre2, Hornet, Spectre, or Triathlon. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Check your SIM, only a B-license is required. And as for the answer, the jumper should have enough sense to hopefully get out early or ride down. Or, an S&TA would hopefully notice and make the call since, until you have your "A", they are classified as a student and must be on the ground by sunset. But, again, it comes down to personal responsibility. The only person penultimately responsible for a jumper's safety is that jumper themself. Actually, The Golden Knights are one of the best recruiting tools the Army has. They are doing their part right now by encouraging others to join the military. If they were needed to be out in the middle of a battlefield tomorrow they would be there, no questions asked. Have you served in the military, Rich? My limits are 20-22 steady and for gusts, no more than an 8-ish mph difference no matter what the wind-speed. I jump a Stiletto at just under 1.4. The limits can vary, obviously, depending on the DZ & conditions. But if things are looking squirrely and I can see loaded wings doing some heavy breathing then I'm staying my happy butt on the ground. But, zero wind (or a 5-ish mph one for some nice down-winders) is always the best. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
