You don't "punch" holes through the riser. You would use an extremely sharp needle of the right size for the material being sewn. The sharper the needle, the easier it is for it to separate the threads of the nylon instead of breaking them, as was told to me by a rigger. Yup. If I'm spending the weekend at my home DZ the others know not to even think about touching my couch. It's just so...comfy. Besides, if you sleep at the DZ you get to make first load! Not exactly the best choice for a first canopy. Jonathon's are basically a Jedei sans airlocks. It is a very high-performance canopy. At your jump #'s, you would probably be much better off and safer with a Hornet, Sabre 1 / 2, Spectre, or Tri. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Sun is bad because not only will it fade nylon, it will weaken it. I hung my rig outside on my back porch at night and pulled it in when I woke up the next morning (before dawn). I then hung it up in the garage with a fan on it to keep it from getting that stale smell and to prevent anything (fungus, mold, etc...) from trying to grow on it while it was still damp.
