If it is ok to hit your kids, why is it not ok for kids to hit other kids and why is it illegal to hit other adults your own age. It doesn't make sense to adults, let alone children. Despite your logical argument, most of us DO grow up understanding that it's not okay to hit, even if we were spanked as children. Most of our children will understand this too. The problem with studies about social issues is that it's too hard to define variables. There are people who spank and because of undefined variables have children who grow up with aggression. There are other parents who spank and because of other undefinbed variables have children who grow up understanding socially acceptable behavior and that spanking doesn't mean it's okay to go around hitting people. This morning in a C-Section, the Obstetrician and I were talking about biking. He suggested that we go for a ride some weekend. I said, "That'd be great....on a weekend when I'm not working and when my child is with his dad....oh, and when I'm not skydiving." He looked up, horrified, and said, "What?" LOLOLOL! The look on his face was priceless. But if I were applying for a job with him, I don't think he would've been impressed if it were on my vita. Yep! It's so true. My best friend's dad probably has the highest IQ of any person I've ever known (his daughter and grandson aren't far behind). Yeah, raw brains give you a better toolkit to work with, but it's how you apply that raw talent and how you develop your emotional intelligence that really determines your path in life. Absolutely. People who are really stupid are probably not gonna excel. My mom and I use to play some vicious scrabble before I got so busy with school. Now when I go visit I just don't want to think that hard. But scrabble is definitely one of my favorites too.
