    Perhaps "gay parents have existed throughout history"--- you'd have to provide a source in order for the statement (because it is implying something rather extreme) to carry much weight-- but the percentage was too small to have much of a generalized effect one way or another. Well, there's the berdache in some cultures who have been highly respected in their roles as parents. In the Sioux culture, they were often taken as wives by men and often adopted children. Also the Nadle of the Navajo were considered to be excellent parents. Now I'm sure that neither all of the Nadle or berdaches were "excellent" parents, but the bias was toward them being preferred as parents, and certainly not against them being fit as parents. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.     I realize that many who grew up in dysfunctional families disagree about the importance of the concept (of Family). Then there are people who grew up in perfectly functional families that wouldn't fall into your definition of "family."     Umm...don't wanna live there. Just a skydiving trek. Flat is good for that :) The hills on the other hand are over here. They're good for camping, hiking, backpacking, riding. But skydiving in the hills sucks ass. But this weekend, there will be ice. My man's in Cozumel, and my kid's with his dad.     So, do you think it's 'wrong' for people to have such a harsh reaction to someone making such a poor choice for her child? If you smoked while pregnant, would you defend it as a good choice, or recognize that the choice isn't best for your baby? I don't think it's wrong for people to be so harsh, but I believe in the "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" philosophy. Making such a harsh judgment about something that happened in ONE moment--a snapshot without knowing anything about her situation--just seems pretty self-righteous to me. If I smoked while pregnant, I would recognize that it was a poor choice, just like I recognize my other poor choices for what they were/are.     We all do stupid things and screw up. I don't think it's harsh to look at a pregnant woman smoking and realize that she's actively, consciously and against the advice of everyone who knows anything about medical science, harming her baby. Sure, it's her choice to do it, but if people think she's a bad mother for doing it, they're right. I don't think so. I think it's a poor choice, but smoking a cigarette while pregnant certainly doesn't make her a bad mother in my mind. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
