  1. CONGRATS!!!!! first 4.0? then conBEERulations
  2. then my AFF instructor with 3000 jumps wouldn't qualify.
  3. whats the dif between a hook and a carve?
  4. I'm not sure either... best I've figured out is that its something a newbie isn't supposed to do low to the ground unless they want to go splat.
  5. They are writing English. You're writing American.
  6. I wear my pin necklace because it means something to ME, not because of whatever someone else might think of it. I bought it after my first AFF jump. That first AFF jump was the biggest step I've ever taken in my life, and I did it all by myself. I didn't know anyone at the DZ, but I knew skydiving was something I HAD to do, so I went and did it. My pin necklace doesn't so much as represent "skydiving" but it represents something so much bigger... my ability to conquer my own fear. That's why I wear it.
  7. I had a wonderful experience with AFF. My AFF instructors told me that they all learned static line, and every single one of them wishes they'd had AFF back when they were learning. with static line, the first time you're in freefall, you're all alone....
  8. and lets not forget CYPRES= AAD Cypress = A tree or a city in California Cyprus = a Mediterranean Island
  9. OMG...You did not just do that! I actually clicked on it and I'm going IN-freakin-SANE! Welcome to the badger club!!!!!!!!! We are the Badgers.... You Will Be Assimilated... Resistance is Futile...
  10. sure... its easy. Your is possessive, as in "Your bike". Something that belongs to "you" You're is a contraction for "You are". If you can substitute the words "You Are" for "You're" you are using the right format. Your going to the store= INCORRECT "YOU ARE" going to the store= hmm...that works. You're going to the store = passes the test and is therefore correct. Can you tell I was an English teacher for a year?
  11. Design the shirt. Get a price quote and take pre-orders. collect checks/paypal in advance. don't order the shirts until you've already been paid. OR... Just go to www.cafepress.com and upload your graphic, and they can order the shirt directly from them, like PinkMafia does.
  12. possibly NSFW if your boss is a prude or you're in a really conservative office.
  13. How do you get an annoying song out of your head?? Start singing a MORE annoying song! {in best Zazu voice} Its a Small World After ALL Its a Small World After ALLLLLL Its a Small World After ALLLLLLLLLLLL Its a SMALLLLL, SMALLLLL WORLD!!!!!
  14. Polar ice caps are not completely in the sea. They extend up onto land (which is not displacing sea water) that ice melts, runs into the sea, and raises the sea level. Also, some of the large ice cliffs are attached to the land ice masses, which hold them in one spot... there is tons of cubic feet of ice extending past the water line. ----------------- | ice cliff | glacier | | | | | | | |^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Sea Water | |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sea Floor Ice melts... puts more mass into the water than was there originally. oceans rise.
  15. My AFF instructor told me about a guy at Perris (whose name I can't remember) who teaches packing, lets the students pack his main, and, as long as the thing's in the bag and in the container, no matter how messy, he goes and jumps it to help the students' confidence. First person who ever jumped one of my packjobs was me. It was SCARY, especially since Eddie and Doreen kept me from killing myself (or at least causing a certain cutaway) at least twice while I was packing it. I was nervous and made a couple of stupid mistakes. The second packjob, nobody watched me, and I did it perfectly... pressure was off.
  16. I'd probably try to spiral and stay as close to the DZ as I could... however.... both DZs I jump at have safe areas to land out right near the DZ, and otherwise are surrounded by unsafe places to land, like lakes, freeways, and houses. Staying as close to the DZ as possible would be in my best interest, so I'd spiral, trying to stay put, or at least not go too far back. However, if there wasn't a safe landing area below or slightly behind me, I'd let the canopy fly and look for somewhere safe. Better to land WAY out somewhere nice, flat, and open, than land close to the DZ in trees or powerlines.
  17. I was wondering the same thing... Greenies? um... Greenies?
  18. oooohhhh... purdy. I can't wait til I can get a custom one of my own... I already know exactly what colors I want and all that.
  19. fixed. had an extra space in there.
  20. the explanation of how nevada used to be under water is a theory called "plate tectonics" The theory of plate tectonics states that the Earth's outermost layer is fragmented into a dozen or more large and small plates that are moving relative to one another as they ride atop hotter, more mobile material. It has provided explanations to questions that scientists had speculated upon for centuries -- such as why earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in very specific areas around the world, and how and why great mountain ranges like the Alps and Himalayas formed. When plates bump into each other, you get fault lines, mountain ranges, volcanoes, and deep trenches. http://pubs.usgs.gov/publications/text/understanding.html#anchor6715825
  21. I do grappling in martial arts, and a lot of guys say the same thing... "I don't want to grapple with a woman! I might put my hands in the wrong place!" its silly. If what you're doing is part of a necessary gear check, (or part of a grappling match), no reasonable woman is going to make an issue of it. I'd rather have my gear checked properly than have someone miss something because they were afraid to put their hand in the wrong place. we are usually capable of telling the difference between an accidental grab and an intentional grope.
  22. bring a journal to the DZ. take notes during your debrief, and then write your own reflection. it helps you to remember later. mine helped me so much, because there's TONS of stuff in there that just didn't fit in my logbook.
