    Oh yay!!

I've been on prescription reflux medication for three years now. believe me, I can relate. Your doc have ya on nexium?
  2. see if they'll send the item to your rigger. When the rigger has the item, and you've inspected it, then send the cash.
  3. everyone I know is an experienced jumper, and not flying the boats of canopies that I am. The ones with rigs that would fit me are all flying 120s or thereabouts. I may try to scrape together the $50 for gear and the like for one solo at Elsinore... it won't be easy though, and will probably mean playing the overdraft game with my checking account.
  4. There's actually a lot of good advice there if you read between the lines: Edited for the modern relationship, and these go BOTH ways. Let him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile. Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the right time. (you both just walked in the door... and you're both tired and grumpy. take time to unwind before worrying about issues) its okay if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you every so often. (nothing wrong with a little time to yourself once in a while) Try to make sure that your home is a place of peace and tranquility where you and your husband can renew yourselves in body and spirit. Don't greet him with complaints and problems. Don't challenge your partner by questioning their judgement or integrity. (discuss the individual issues, rather than hurling insults like "you're a lying jerk")
  5. My dad has never once told me he's proud of me... but he says it in a million other little ways. sometimes someone is just incapable of saying the words. my dad says I'm a fool and a moron for skydiving. And then, he brags to his secretary about how brave I am. sometimes, the person is really an asshole... and other times, you just have to listen with more than your ears. sometimes, you have to accept that a person's inability to be happy for you is because they are unable to see past their own misery... and if that's the case, you can choose to either look past it, find that one little bit of good in them, and appreciate them for it, or you can walk away. neither choice is any more or less correct. you just have to make the right decision for you. There's this wonderful little book you might want to read. Its only about 100 pages, and its all about recognizing what's inside yourself, and what's coming through to you from others. The feedback you get from others is never truly reliable, because everyone sees the world through their own lens. You can have ten people look at the same thing, and get ten different interpretations of what they saw. The book is called The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Its a really easy read, and it really can help you change your own negative thought patterns, which makes it a lot easier to get along with others.
  6. I don't know about san diego, but I do know for a fact that Perris just put together a rig with smaller canopies for the smaller students. They've had a lot of smaller females there recently, and someone finally decided they needed a smaller rig. The container is a bit smaller than the average student containers, and its still totally adjustable, and the canopy is smaller too. They have both a 170 and a 200 available for really tiny new jumpers, as well as the usual 220 and up for folks that are slightly more than featherweights.

  8. I can get to the DZ, I just can't afford to jump. I had to completely drain my savings because my bank screwed up on some student loan paperwork, so I had to pay for my class up front so the school didn't drop my registration. Its straightened out now, but the loan funds won't be released into my student account til January 26th, so the school won't issue a refund. I had to shell out $2100 cash to keep my registration, and when you've only got two classes left, you can't just let them drop you and re-register later. So, I have NO surplus cash right now. I've also gotten the opportunity to buy a used rig with a cypres for a great price. In the next few weeks, I'm going to have to scrape up the cash for that... so, right now I have to choose between buying a rig in good condition with AAD and both canopies, and jumping rental gear to stay current. If I pay to jump the rental gear, I won't have the cash to buy a rig. If I buy the rig, I won't have the cash to jump until I can reimburse myself for the cost of school when I get the loan funds. I can get cash, but its enough for either jumping OR gear, not both. catch 22.
  9. Call him. If he's reaching out to you (or just maybe has something important to tell you) it may be to your benefit to call. You won't be any worse off for calling, and if he starts putting you down, explain that you will not tolerate being spoken to in that manner and hang up. Its not easy, but once you start putting your foot down, it gets easier every time.
  10. Next time I get to jump again, it will probably be January 30. That will be 60 days from my last jumps on December 1. I know I'm going to have to jump with an instructor at that time, because I won't be current anymore. My question is... How much do you really forget? Am I going to need to re-learn how to arch and all that? I'm not real worried about forgetting emergency procedures, because I try to take a few minutes every couple of days and practice them just to make sure they stay in muscle memory, but I am really worried about forgetting technique and canopy skills. Plus... I'm probably going to be scared out of my mind. It seems the longer I go between jumps, the more I freak in the door. Anyone have any advice?
  11. you can fill out the waiver while the video is playing. Takes about the same amount of time it would take to just fill out the waiver. Someone at Perris told me the video thing was prompted by someone suing Elsinore. They just want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to them.

  13. noice rig! good luck with the shoulder!
  14. I know what you mean... I said that it CAN mean that they aren't ready for a LTR, not that it DID mean that. the girls at Perris pointed out all the "players" and guys to avoid to me after they figured out I'd be hanging out on a regular basis. It was actually quite amusing.
  15. English has its origins in the same language that German does. All those "extra letters" used to actually be pronounced. For example "Knight", instead of being pronounced "nite" like it is now, was said "kah-nig-ht" Over the centuries, we got lazy and pronounciation evolved while spelling did not (but it was standardized). Another reason English is so difficult, is although it has Germanic roots, it also has borrowed from everything else its come into contact with. Our language is a mix of sounds that are primarily Germanic, but have words with Latin and Greek roots as well, and those are pronounced and spelled differently...which is why there are "rules" in English, but so many f-ing exceptions! I felt so sorry for my English Language Learner (ELL) kids when I was teaching, because they learned one rule and tried to apply it to everything, and I had to explain "no, this, this, and this are exceptions...you have to just memorize them." It seemed like my students had to learn not just one language, but a mishmash of three!
  16. I think skydiving tends to attract the folks with more extreme personality traits... which can also mean that those folks aren't ready to have one of those "mature, committed relationships" that us girls are usually looking for.
  17. does USPA have currency requirements? and Perris is very up front about its requirements. http://www.skydiveperris.com/advanced/requirements.asp
  18. I've had my karate buddies say similar stuff...which is probably why I don't get asked out much. they NEVER want their girlfriends to do martial arts, because they can't handle watching their girl go into the ring (and maybe into the ring against a GUY) and potentially leave with a broken nose or something. The real interesting thing is that all the married guys were dragging their wives into the studio. Seems like guys want to protect a girlfriend, but when they're married, they want to be confident that their wife can protect herself.

so when you bring it back to her, surprise her with a dozen roses and fill the helmet with hershey's kisses or do something else sickeningly sweet.
