  1. no, she said it wasn't common, but it did happen. I didn't sense any animosity whatsoever towards falconers in general.
  2. the bird conked its head on the fence on sunday, which is when it got its concussion. The bird, if tame, was probably abandoned by its owner, from what the rehab lady was saying. Kestrels are one of the only two birds that apprentice falconers are allowed to own (the other is a red tail hawk, which has a NASTY temperament, so most choose a kestrel). Some unscrupulous falconers will abandon their kestrel after finishing their apprenticeship, because the kestrel eats only bugs and very small mice, while the falconer wants birds that can take down larger prey, like pigeons or sparrows. Very sad, but it happens.
  3. I understand where you're coming from. I enjoyed my tandems, but I didn't really like AFF til level 6 (the unstable exit). Before that, it was so structured that I kinda forgot to have fun.
  4. thanks! I'm glad I got the chance to drive her to the rescue. She was such a good bird in the car, just sat in her box and didn't make a sound. She was so quiet that I had to open the box once just to make sure she was ok, and she just looked up at me as if to say "are we there yet?"
  5. I spoke with Cyndi at the rescue last night. Icarus was doing well and happily munching her second mouse of the day. She's still having some balance and vision problems, and hopefully that'll just take time. I'm going to visit her saturday morning on my way to the dropzone.
  6. Dunno about where you live, but most of the newspapers around here don't want to mess with having kids deliver. Most of the papers are delivered by a team of two people in a van, one guy driving and the other one with the sliding door open, chucking papers onto driveways. Under federal law, kids who deliver newspapers are exempt from many child labor law regulations, but many states have laws that are stricter than the feds (the state law can't let the kids do more work, but it can restrict them to doing less).
  7. I had 5 or 6 high school friends who enlisted in the marines. They all shipped out the September after high school (1996), to all different jobs. Dunno if that's standard now.
  8. I just wish the entire world would stop shooting at each other, go make a skydive, and sit down and have a beer.
  9. If you were wondering that HALFWAY THROUGH, you've gotta be doing something wrong... I mean, if you're actually able to think about stuff like that rationally and...*GASP*... do MATH in bed...!
  10. I think I met her at Elsinore once. not sure tho. Best bet may just be to call the office on the weekend and have her paged.
  11. someone who's two faced says one thing, and turns around and says or does the exact opposite. That's different from someone who adjusts their words and behavior to match the situation. For example, my friend Sean may say to me "Colleen and I bought some new handcuffs...we're going to spend all night trying them out." and I'll laugh and make a wise-ass comment. You can bet his mother wouldn't tease him if he said something like that to her, so he'd just tell her "Mom, Colleen and I are spending the evening in." both are true. Both are appropriate for the situation. and the example isn't two-faced. if someone is incapable of adjusting their manners to fit the situation, they're quite possibly lacking in tact and decorum. Children are expected to behave differently when sitting in the classroom than they are at recess. Certain behavior is appropriate in certain situations. That same behavior may be inappropriate in other situations.
  12. I think the majority of us humans say things to our friends and peers that we wouldn't say to our parents or grandparents. Most people behave differently at someone's funeral or wedding than they would in a night out clubbing with friends. its not about being two-faced, its about proper behavior, which differs in different situations.
  13. well, since my landings usually leave something to be desired, I ALWAYS prepare to PLF. LOL!
  14. beautful footage as always, Quade. Thanks much!!! I'm going to call the rescue now for an update.
  15. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. um... marriage and child support are independant issues. You have a kid, you help pay for it, unless another agreement is in place (and yes, I think the guy is getting screwed here).
  17. I am aware of the search feature. However, since he said "The Convention publishes..." I was thinking they were on a WFFC site instead.
  18. do you have a link to these articles?
  19. some friends. vibes and hugs to you and your family.
  20. Personally, I do not leave feedback until the transaction is complete. That means either the buyer has notified me that he/she has received the item, or has left feedback for me. Once either of those has occurred (and I do send a follow-up email to the buyer to make sure the package is received), I always leave feedback. Until the transaction is complete though, I feel I do not have enough information to leave feedback.
  21. voted for Nola... she's the cutest anyway!!!!!!
