Emphasis mine. I know there might be information about you that I know nothing about. But all I (and anyone else reading here) has to go on is your profile, okay? You list 100 jumps in 4 years and you have a really absurdly dangerous wingloading on our main based on what you report about yourself and an even more dangerous approach to your reserve canopy selection. No offense, man, but based on what you've presented I hope most people might take what you recommend with a grain of salt. I'm not convinced that your opinion is trustworthy regardless of topic. While I don't have enough insight or experience to really think much about how this might work for students or other jumpers, I really cringe at the idea if I try to apply it to myself. I want complete control over when my main deploys (assuming that's what you mean by "dual aads"). If I choose to go low I'd never want an AAD second guessing me. What altitude could you even set it at? 1500 feet? That's a little too close for comfort to having both AADs fire for me. 2000 feet? No, I might choose to deploy at 2000 feet and not want to have to race an AAD to get open. 2500 feet? Not a chance in hell. I'm comfortable at that altitude. I'm fine with the idea that my existing AAD may or may not cut my reserve closing loop if I'm low with nothing open, but I'm not fine having an AAD deploy my main. YMMV. Owned by Remi #?

No John, the fault lies with those who have ignored the opportunity to learn how to train skydivers because they think training math students or physics students makes them good coaches. The fault lies with those who think they can train skydivers because they know they can train academic research assistants. Owned by Remi #?

Yeah, "that guy" seems to agree that not enough students are encouraged to read the SIM. That has nothing to do with the topic at hand here. You appear to be thrashing for an opportunity to change the subject. Owned by Remi #?

I'm not a "full time professional" teacher, but I have been teaching part time at both Kent State in their engineering program (years ago) and at the University of Akron in their continuing education program for nearly 15 years. I don't have Kallend's academic credentials by far and certainly can't speak to any training he has. But I do know that I've met tenured professors who can teach, and others who treat students as though they were an inconvenience to be tolerated while they managed research and published. I've been told that I am a very good teacher. I've gotten enough feedback to think that I am a good teacher. I hope that I truly am. I know that I'm never uninterested in learning new things about teaching at the least. That said, after 12 years of teaching young adults and mature adults in a university setting, I learned a great deal when I took the Coaching course 3 years ago. I learned about techniques used to teach adults under physiological stress, for one. I've applied some of what I learned there at the dropzone to my land-based classrooms and I think it added value. I think, only my opinion, that a truly good teacher is a student first and always. I think that a truly good teacher can learn almost any time and anywhere and should never distain the opportunity. I honestly think that a truly good teacher never becomes so far removed from their students that they think they don't have anything to learn from them while they teach. Owned by Remi #?

Are you always nervous when you jump?
labrys replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In all honesty, I totally know what you mean regardless of my previous post. Being that high gives you a truly surreal perspective on what you're doing and how you're doing it. That's why I usually only open high on sunset loads when I can take an icy cold beverage along to help with the meditation process. Owned by Remi #? -

Or perhaps the 1 person who didn't have 2 out "won". I hope, if that was the case, that his teammates bought the beer. Owned by Remi #? -
They can jump with unlicensed jumpers who have been cleared for self supervision. They can also teach non method specific parts of a first jump course. Owned by Remi #?

I've never really thought about a name for my canopy but if one were to come to the front right away I guess it would be "goddamnyoustopopeningoffheadingforonefuckingjumpokandwhileyoureatitwhynotinflateyourendcellsandletthesliderdownthelinesatthesametimeandbythewaythanksforopeningiloveyou" Owned by Remi #?

How long ago did you overcome your fear and get on the rollercoaster? Is this a recent thing? Skydiving is probably going to be magnitudes of order more intense than an amusement park ride, but not necessarily "scary as hell" Honestly, no one here knows you well enough to tell you what they think about your ability to so this. That's what Spence was getting at. Owned by Remi #?

You're on a 4-way, and notice you're at 1200ft, do you:

I'm with those who don't have a poll answer. I'd wave, backslide, and pull. Owned by Remi #? -
That really depends on their level of skill. 100 jumps is a minimum. Some talented people will be able to pass the course at that level. Others will not. A good, well administered course should make a difference. Owned by Remi #?
