While I'm not a huge fan I've come to appreciate her passion for her job. We actually need more people like AOC (not necessarily with her views) who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. Congress has sold us out to the highest bidder. I'm wondering how long it will take them to get to her.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Three Mile Island nuke "disaster". I've said in the past nuclear power must be part of the clean energy plan. https://www.npr.org/2019/03/28/707000226/40-years-after-a-partial-nuclear-meltdown-a-new-push-to-keep-three-mile-island-o

One need only spend some time in Mountain View, CA and see the old RVs lining the city parks because the people needed to run the service businesses can't afford to live anywhere nearby. The divide has turned to a chasm.

I'm saying the problem is the "every man for himself" mentality that goes with abolishing the EC.

Here in Ohio we have a system of school funding based on residential property values. Obviously the nicer areas have nicer schools. And the vicious circle goes on. It was ruled unconstitutional some 22 years ago but no one has floated a system everyone agrees to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeRolph_v._State So, in your example that's exactly what happens here but on a more local level. School levies are voted on in each district. Guess whose levies get passed more often. A more equitable situation would be a vote on a statewide system where each district has some say but can't nullify the other simply because they have more money to spend. Hmm...sounds familiar.

I guess my knowledge of history is sparse. Never studied the man. I do know he is famous for saying something to the effect of "a Democracy will only last until the population discovers they can vote themselves more money". Hello AOC.

You really DO see it as tyranny...Ya know, it's very easy for people who live in half million dollar homes to look down upon the minions and have disdain for any power they wield. Your ivory tower is calling.

Pick your number but either way Trump won by a landslide

Not a small minority...I went to bed on Monday night fully expecting to see HRC elected on Tuesday. -

The only failure was Democrats who believed the MSM and decided not to go to the polls and then feigned shock and dismay. Your side fucked up...you need to own that shit. Still makes me chuckle... -
James Madison agreed that election of the people at large was the best way to go about electing the president, but he knew that the less populous slave states would not be influential under such a system, and he backed the Electoral College. Another factor here was the so-called Three-Fifths Compromise, which gave added power to the slave-holding states under the Electoral College which they would not have had under any likely form of popular vote. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federalist_No._68

I find it difficult to believe there were no “campaign events” in the State of New York in 2016. And you can pay attention to a state without actually holding a "campaign event". From the link... “Campaign events” are defined here as public events in which a candidate is soliciting the state’s voters (e.g., rallies, speeches, fairs, town hall meetings). This count of "campaign events" does not include visits to a state for the sole purpose of conducting a private fund-raising event, participating in a presidential debate or media interview in a studio, giving a speech to an organization’s national convention, attending a non-campaign event (e.g., the Al Smith Dinner in New York City), visiting the campaign's own offices in a state, or attending a private meeting. I think the definition needs a bit of work.

You're looking at this backwards. The electoral college exists to make sure that a candidate doesn't ignore a state simply because it's population is low. Without the EC a candidate could simply pander to the combination of states with the amount of population to garner a popular vote victory.

For the purposes of this discussion I'm aiming directly at congress. If you think Billary didn't enrich themselves....

I stopped watching the mainstream media a long time ago. Definitely made me a happier person. Not so sure about a better informed person. The only way out of the current situation here is to regain control of the legislative branch. As it is now, corporate money is making and passing laws that benefit only themselves and our Senators and Representatives are gorging themselves at the troff. This legislation leans so far to the corporate interests that is has sparked a wave of calls for socialism.

I wonder if you aren't confusing exterior beauty with interior beauty. I read "love yourself, you are beautiful" as something I would hope my 23 yo daughter would feel about herself. Lord knows there's plenty of media that seems to want to tell her she's not.
-
You don't have a daughter, do you?

Where did I say our health care system is the best? And...I wasn't referring to the people themselves, simply the companies. If you don't think companies move their operations where they are the most profitable...visit Detroit.

Higher taxes?...absolutely. But whom are you taxing? The knee jerk reaction is to tax the hell out of the rich. But make it too hard on them and they'll just go someplace else (Atlas Shrugged) Fully socialized medicine? Better do some tort reform before you try that one. As long as lawyers are free to file trivial class action suits we'll never be able to fully realize the potential of our system. AFA forcing employers to pay for 18 months of childcare...I don't think that's something an employer should be doing. We already have the FMLA (Friday Monday leave act). Obamacare made having full time employees a liability, so we have a billion part timers with no insurance benefits. I'd like to see medicare for all but have you ever been in a fully medicare funded facility? It ain't pretty. No system is perfect. As long as we continue to live under the rule of the elites we'll continue to suffer.
-
I have no doubt they disagree. I don't know their situation. I know people who love the US...others who aren't so enthused. It all depends on your situation doesn't it? Care to refute anything in the actual video?
-
I'm all for raising taxes on the rich. Still not sure how you achieve these goals. (B) to create millions of good, high-wage jobs and ensure prosperity and economic security for all people of the United States; Again, government doesn't create anything. What it gives to one must be taken from another. In order for 50% of the things in this resolution to happen you'll need to cooperation of 66% of the others in congress. When was the last time that happened?
-
Ocasio-Cortez-Green-New-Deal-Resolution.pdf Wow! My initial reaction is solely "how will we pay for all of this?". Some good ideas but many that rely on the government to "create". I have serious doubts our government can create these things without the help of the private sector and the planks of this position are punishing to that sector. It also intertwines social justice with green policy. Not sure how the 2 relate.

Look again Phil. My only comment was about her knowing the three branches of government. What I find more interesting is how nervous she makes the Democrats in Congress.
-
If you watch the entire doc the point being made is how we've sold out the legislative branch to big business.

My only agenda is to poke fun at those who were sure the fat lady was singing.
