  1. Didn't take long to find....AGW is also a boon for media outlets.
  2. A few years back I was running a bit short on disposable income. I thought I'd give Uber a try...I reached some conclusions very quickly. 1. They require a "newer" car. If you have an outstanding loan you are simply trading the equity in your car for cash. 2. The system is bad in that you never know where the ride wants to go. I'd end up an hour away from home with no rider to go back with. Even worse, you don't want to take a new rider when you're that far out for fear that they'll take you even further away. 3. I'll be 90% or better of Uber drivers don't understand the tax implications. Thousands of driver are now in debt to the IRS because they were either unaware or just didn't care. 4. Uber recruited hard right before the holidays. They hooked me and a million others. I'm assuming it was to make sure there was enough capacity. Right after the holidays they cut the rates significantly. I have no sympathy for Uber and Lyft. The system works because there will always be a fresh crop of willing participants to screw.
  3. So you're a Nixon fan? Personally I question everything he put in place. Like most of our government it might have started out as a good thing but morphed into a giant, business eating monster. I think instead of term limits on the congresscritters we should have a limit on any department or program...say 15 years. Do we still need it? Do we still want it? https://dc.gov/directory
  4. You say that like we were given a choice.
  5. On the surface I'm sure it sounds great. In reality I think it's a bad idea in it's current form. You might as well just make the K-12 system a K-16 system. The only way I think it would work is to give credit for performance. Perform well and we'll refund your fees, or excuse your loan. I have no interest in paying for someone to party for 4 years.
  6. Hehe...we have a 48V Club Car. Batteries died last year. (6) 8v batteries $900 - $1200 depending. I'm going to put (4) 12v Deep Cycles in at $75 per. Hope you never need to replace the Tesla batteries....
  7. You'll get no argument from me on any of it. It's happening, probably for the good.
  8. Let me preface this by saying I'm not a denier...merely undecided but definitely leaning towards the denier side of the equation. I try not to get too excited about it because regardless of what I think the climate change train has left the station and there is little I can do to change the track. There might be something to it...maybe not. Still I'm old enough now to remember several "world is coming to an end" scenarios that required government spending and new laws, all of which probably changed things for the better, all the while taking more of my pocket money. Anyone remember the hole in the ozone layer? It was so important we close it. Of course now some CG folks say closing the hole might actually be a bad thing for global warming. There are plenty of other examples where our good intentions actually made things worse. But I digress... No one hires a fireman if there's no chance of fire. The industry that is now Climate Change is being funded in spectacular amounts. By some estimates in the trillions of dollars. All the while we're supposed to trust that the folks who receive this money are above the temptation of cooking the books. Maybe...but that's not what history has shown. Anyways, like I said I don't get too excited about it. I've accepted that enough people are convinced we can do something about it that there is little hope that we won't.
  9. Let's assume we could end SS. How would you phase it out? You can't take it from the people that are already receiving it. I'm 60 years old and have been having money taken from my checks all my life specifically for this program. Actually, I think the next Democrat Presidential Candidate should suggest ending SS...maybe Bernie...lol
  10. You're assuming a race...I'm assuming a cross country trip (real world). You're both required to obey traffic laws. Care to revise your estimate? You mentioned this mythical $35,000 Model 3. Can you point me to where one might buy one? Tesla is still such a white elephant that the car shopping sight cars.com doesn't even offer Tesla as a manufacturer on it's website.
  11. You must be new here. You can't diss the new green religion while services are under way. Shhh. You heathen sceptic!
  12. I think the original point to all f this is lost. If you put a Tesla and bascially any fossil fuel road vehicle and ask them to drive 2000 miles the fossil vehicle will only have to stop 4 or 5 times. The EV?
  13. Bernie Sanders Denies Closure Of Vermont Nuclear Plant Increased Emissions -- The Data Says Otherwise https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelshellenberger/2019/04/16/bernie-sanders-denies-closure-of-vermont-nuclear-plant-increased-emissions-the-data-says-otherwise/#2d9d65c843d9 Vermont shows that renewables cannot make up for the loss of nuclear. The only wind farm, Deerfield, to be built in Vermont over the last decade took eight years to be completed due to litigation related to the siting of the farm in black bear habitat. It would take 59 wind farms the size of Deerfield to replace the annual quantity of electricity from Vermont Yankee, which was one of the smallest nuclear plants in the U.S. when it was closed.
  14. This whole thing is reminds me of Barry's birth certificate.
  15. Easy now...the art of tracking has improved significantly in the past 30 years. Back in the day the idea was to get as much speed as possible and convert that into horizontal movement. I can definitely attest to having been slammed by dumping in a track. You could even hear it from the ground when people used to open at 2 grand. Kind of a "crack" followed by several folks giving it a woooh!
  16. Oh man...it is totally a clean line. Just the thought that it might be alright to help your child cheat on an exam speaks volumes. My kids were educated at a very upper white class school system. Building that colleges would love to have. I think they did a below average job of educating. If you failed a test the first time you just had to take it again. I think they were more concerned about the ratings and how many graduates went to college. Meanwhile in FL... https://www.orlandosentinel.com/opinion/david-whitley/os-ae-florida-teacher-fired-for-giving-zeros-david-whitley-20180925-story.html Florida teacher says she was fired for giving zeros
  17. Why can't we just have Elon load the spent fuel into the trunk of a roadster and fire it towards the sun?

Amtrak Funding Slashed In Half Under Trump Spending Plan http://fortune.com/2018/02/12/amtrak-funding-cut-trump-spending-plan/ I Took Amtrak Instead of Flying and It Made Me Want to Die a Little Bit https://jalopnik.com/i-took-amtrak-instead-of-flying-and-it-made-me-want-to-1833533707?utm_medium=socialflow&utm_source=jalopnik_facebook&utm_campaign=socialflow_jalopnik_facebook&fbclid=IwAR07LQ0kR5c-Vb2XZ7UH0IyXu1GAW-qiPhfmks6yBNuLyARCRRBaJl4_4zk Why do we continue to subsidize this loser?
  19. I think we might just put it all in the trunk of a Tesla Roadster and shoot it into the sun.
  20. Amid Scandal, Baltimore Mayor Takes Indefinite, Health-Related Leave Just before she announced her leave of absence, The Baltimore Sun reported that health care giant Kaiser Permanente was seeking a contract to provide coverage to city employees and paid $114,000 to purchase some 20,000 copies of the books between 2015 to 2018. "Under the deal with the medical system, UMMS paid Pugh $500,000 for copies of the books while she served on its board. UMMS paid $100,000 in each of five transactions in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 to purchase 20,000 copies of her self-published books at $5 per book. https://www.npr.org/2019/04/01/708891509/amid-scandal-baltimore-mayor-takes-indefinite-health-related-leave Must be a good read.
  21. She'll also have to learn fairly quickly that to accomplish something in DC requires a quid pro quo strategy. As it is she seems to have both sides of the aisle squirming, and you won't get much accomplished like that.
  22. In a market driven economy people need something to aspire to. Most if not all of the people in the lower third of the income spectrum now look to the lottery as the only way to improve their lot in life.
