Mueller's office disputes BuzzFeed report that Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress I'll just leave this here for all of you who now need to change your panties

I've been watching this...sobering commentary.

Never mind

Oh man...don't get me started. I have a couple of FB friends whom I don't spend much time with. They are constantly posting political shit...much of it BS or fake news. It's as if they have nothing to contribute but political one upmanship. Still, it's good to know where they are coming from. Let's talk about religion for a second. My daughter's boyfriend's father posts mostly religious crap. He has been pushing for us to get together (we've been together once at a bar). I told Rox that if he starts with the shit about gays or abortion we're leaving. I still look at Google News daily on my phone but most of the insight on current events comes from here. I am so screwed... Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

To a degree I am a Trump supporter. I'm certainly not a Pelosi / Schumer supporter. I cringe daily at what the Donald tweets. I made up my mind that I'm tired of the political football it's become. I'm trying to figure out why everyone is so against it. OK...it's alot of money. But that argument pales when it comes from the mouths of Pelosi and Schumer. All of a sudden they care about how much it costs? From the 2 states in the union that spend like drunken sailors. Not effective? Meh. Your average border jumper isn't going to have the wherewithall to get over. Change immigration policy? Not until you secure that border. Someone showed an article from a Republican congressperson from TX saying we don't need a wall. What about a Republican congressperson from AZ? In 2000, the Department of Homeland Security built a wall in the Tucson, Arizona, sector. Over 15 years, border apprehensions from CBP dropped by 90 percent. In 2005, DHS built a wall in Yuma, Arizona. There, border apprehensions dropped 95 percent over nine years, according to CBP data. These are just a couple of places where we’ve built a wall and the wall has worked. It will take more than just a physical barrier to solve the problem of illegal immigration once and for all. But coupled with more border patrol agents and enhanced technology, we can send the message that we are serious about securing our border. Only then will the U.S. finally show the world we have borders, and they must be respected. Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Ariz., is a co-sponsor of the "Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act of 2018." I don't really know the answer. We've had an immigration problem from Mexico for as long as I can remember. Seems as though nothing we've done short of building walls has been effective. CBP puts the numbers as follows... In November, 51,856 people were apprehended between ports of entry on the Southwest Border, compared with 51,001 in the month of October. In FY18, a total of 396,579 individuals were apprehended between ports of entry on our Southwest Border. https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/sw-border-migration To my way of thinking that's alot of people. I'm thinking between ports of entry is other than a border checkpoint. Would a wall stop it? Probably not. Would it slow it down? Probably. Do I have a problem with almost 400,000 people crossing the border illegally each year? I don't know. Tell me why I shouldn't. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

The CPB is under staffed and under trained so adding wall is pointless if they can't react anyway. It then doesn't address the fact twice as many illegals remain as overstays on their visas as are apprehended attempting to cross the border, there is little data on successful border crossings. The biggest issue is that no addition of wall has shown to have any effect on the total number of border crossings. The only solution really is a 100% wall from coast to coast but first that's not going to happen because of land use and terrain, next it still needs a much larger CPB roster to react, finally that combination becomes very expensive for the small improvement in apprehensions (the last 10-15% that it would potentially stop). Finally, none of this speaks to the prime motivator of illegal immigration from South and Central America which is poverty, crime, war, etc. That 25bn and the 4bn yearly could easily go to diplomatic and financial investments in target countries that would provide us with advantageous trade and commerce relationship and also quell the turmoil that they flee from. All of our history shows us that if they want to get here they'll find a way. "The Wall" is not an illegal immigration plan, it's a campaign chant. It was an honest question. I don't watch any of the MSM news shows. I just don't care at this point. I'd rather we build a wall and have everyone STFU about it. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

This question is for all of you who don't want the wall built. Why? Honestly...why do you care whether or not there is a wall on our southern border? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

But..but...you have to build it to know what's outside. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Park Avenue: money, power and the American dream - Why Poverty?
airdvr replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
The centre is shifting ground. You may not actually be moving toward it. It may be moving toward you. In other words your values don't really have to change you just need to see society has been dragged in a direction you don't approve of while you weren't looking. No I'm definitely changing my views on this subject. I've watched DC sell out the middle class for far too long. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

While I'm still considering myself as a conservative in reality I'm moving more towards the center. As I get older I see things with a bit more clarity. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

Clearly you don't understand Chicago politics. Having "D" after your name is no indication of being liberal, conservative, green, libertarian, or anything else. It's just a requirement if you wan't to participate at all. And recall that Illinois Governor George Ryan (R) was imprisoned for 5 years on a federal corruption conviction in 2006. I don't recall referring to anyone in the Chicago machine as liberal, conservative, or anything else. Simply Democrat. You omitted to mention that he was also Trump's lawyer/fixer in Chicago. ryoder was pretty clear on that. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Maybe I wasn't framing the question correctly. Scenario: Weed is legal where I live and work. I apply for a job. I haven't blazed up in 10 days. I'm not currently under the effects but it shows up in my urine sample. How will an employer deal with that? BTW...I'm just curious. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I'm curious...how will law enforcement and employers handle testing when it's legal? If I'm not mistaken marijuana shows up 14 days on a urine test. As it is an employer will not hire you (in Ohio) if you test positive. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Like asking for an enemy foreign power to interfere in a domestic election? So you're saying Carter = Trump...if you must. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Carter was a micro-manager. That's why things fell apart for him. He loved processes and felt that when the process is right the outcome will be right. DC doesn't work that way. Still, my biggest problem with him isn't what he did (or didn't do) as POTUS, it's him shooting off his mouth after leaving. He involved himself in things that he shouldn't have. He got away with things that would have been labeled as treasonous 40 years earlier. Always amazed at how many try to pick up that turd by the clean end. Please don't dent the planet. Well deserved, but I really admire Jimmy Carter for what he's done since leaving office. Jimmy Carter did far, far better as an 'Ex-President' than he did as President. Truly a decent human being. Perhaps his decency was his biggest fault/liability. He didn't seem to understand how truly evil some people are. Mishandling of Events overtook President Carter. The Iran hostage situation. Imagine if US special forces had the training, knowledge and equipment then, that they do today. A successful mission would all have been credited to Mr. Carter. The 1979 oil crisis was not his fault, today's fracking and US export situation would have obliterated that crisis completely. Those were events forced upon his presidency. As compared to the unending scandals of trump. All of his own creation. FIFY :)[/;)] Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

We were never closer to achieving a positive outcome in Afghanistan than we were before we got bored and invaded Iraq instead. What else did we get from Iraq? ISIS. Why are we in Syria at all? Oh yeah, ISIS again. How long is it going to be until you realise the folly of the foreign policy objectives you still support? What policy objectives are you talking about? You and the usual cast of characters were totally against being there. Now all of a sudden you have a problem with leaving. It’s called accepting responsibility for our actions. Maybe your guys should try it. We shouldn’t have gone in the first place, but now that we did the responsible thing is to see it through to a successful end, not just run away like a coward and claim victory while hiding behind the bed. We've spent 18 years in Afghanistan. If we haven't accomplished our goal we never will. How long should we spend in Syria before we realize the same thing? Please don't dent the planet.
