  1. The problem with FL is the aging population. I can't say that when I was in my 20's I might have felt the same as they do but all my money was being spent on jump tickets and boogies.

    covid-19

My wife was in tears on the phone. She's tough as nails when it comes to medicine. She was the charge nurse in a local ER for 9 years. She is the director of health services at a facility which is comprised of an assisted living/memory care which includes 70+ elderly folks, a 32 bed ICFDD, a day workshop with almost 100 clients, all DD adults, and 2 group homes with 4 DD individuals each. To enter these facilities you must be screened for symptoms. By their very nature DD folks can have compromised immune systems. Obviously the elderly folks are at great risk. Today she learned that one of the individuals in the group homes may possibly be infected. Not certain yet but the symptoms are starting. Fortunately this person doesn't attend the day rehab program. Living in the group home is one of her nurses. This nurse has been at their facility on a daily basis for meetings since this started. The nurse shows no symptoms but is now in lockdown in the group home. My wife is frightened, and she doesn't frighten easily. She's exhausted working 12 hours days and then fielding phone calls at all hours. There are people out there putting themselves at great risk for us. Please keep them in your tots and pears.
  3. Trump did attempt to cut the CDC’s funding, but Congress prevented it from happening. While officials in charge of the U.S. response to pandemics did leave in 2018, it’s unclear if they were “fired.” The U.S. was not on a list of countries receiving COVID-19 tests from the WHO. But the U.S. doesn’t usually rely on the agency for diagnostic tests, and the testing delay was due mainly to an error with the CDC’s protocol. While Trump has called the Democratic response to the coronavirus a “hoax,” he has not used the term to describe the virus itself. Celebrities are sharing a misleading post about Trump’s response to coronavirus
  4. Wow. That is weird. When my son graduated from Navy boot camp in Waukegan we stayed in Chicago. We had to have him at O'Hare at about 2am so he could catch a flight. Even at 2am there was a traffic jam.
  5. To say anything other might have induced a panic. Hell, most of the grocery stores around me have some empty shelves. It's kind of like "if you like your doctor..."

    covid-19

    I guess it wasn't 100% then.
  7. The federal government funds 126 separate programs targeted towards low‐income people, 72 of which provide either cash or in‐kind benefits to individuals. (The rest fund community‐wide programs for low‐income neighborhoods, with no direct benefits to individuals.) State and local governments operate more welfare programs.Of course, no individual or family gets benefits from all 72 programs, but many do get aid from a number of them at any point in time. We already do. But if you tell working folks they can't work then you have an obligation to help them.

  9. Frankly, I won't be seeing any money. I hope it gets to the people who need it quickly.
  10. We've been semi-socialist since the depression. I just don't want to go full ret*#d. ANd, thanks for the respect, but my handle doesn't start with a capital letter.
  11. Yes Bill,,that's right. Only Republican politicians play games to improve their standing.
  12. Good to hear. I love Canada. As a child my parents took us camping several times to Algonquin Provincial Park. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. I made it a point to take my kids there as well. Thanks for continuing to haul goods.

    covid-19

A recent controlled clinical study conducted by Didier Raoult M.D/Ph.D, et. al in France has shown that 100% patients that received a combination of HCQ and Azithromycin tested negative and were virologically cured within 6 days of treatment. ETA ASeems like it would be worth trying. I don't know if either of those drugs are dangerous but HCQ has been around since 1955.
  14. Most of the world couldn't give a fuck about the US, unless they need aid of course. BTW...I saw a poll today saying a majority of folks approve of his handling of the situation. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/20/poll-majority-of-americans-now-approve-of-trumps-coronavirus-management-138570
  15. The little people here...you know, the deplorables...the ones hanging on to their guns and religion... really need this money. They do jobs you and I would never consider. They make minimum wage. They have been told not to come to work. Not understanding that gave us Trump.
  16. Please. Don't waste the bandwidth.
  17. In Ohio it looks like Super Bowl Sunday, with the addition of all the normal retail establishments being closed. It's erie and a stark reminder of the times. Rox spoke to her daughter last night in Mountain View. She says very few are paying attention to the shelter in place order with the exception of the schools being closed. https://kmph.com/news/local/lockdown-entire-state-of-california-now-under-shelter-in-place-order Thanks California.
  18. Sometimes I'm amazed that you guys don't even know when you're being played by the POTUS.
  19. Right now I really don't give a bat's ass about that. Fuck 'em.

    covid-19

I'm not bored enough to break it down by city. Maybe someone is. The numbers for Canada and Australia are extremely close.

    covid-19

Because I'm bored and have nothing better to do...as of roughly Noon EST https://ncov2019.live/data I thought it would be interesting to see how population density figures into the numbers. I'm not a statistician so I might be all wet here. Please jump in and make corrections. At first glance it appears that population density doesn't play as big a role as I expected. Covid-19.xlsx

    covid-19

I was talking with my RN wife this morning about this very thing. We live in Canton, OH. There are 2 large hospitals in the city. She estimates that between them there might be 75 ventilators.

How many sick people would collapse the healthcare system?

    covid-19

There isn't for me but there are many people who are being so negatively impacted by this they're going to need to know. I hope we have an answer in a couple of weeks.
